Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 660 We're Going Light

But he and Jarvis had already searched every inch of the area before. Forget a helicopter—even a toy chopper wouldn't have escaped their eyes! Jarvis suddenly thought of something. He yanked out the two feathers from his coat, face turning grim, and tried the tracking technique again. This time, he finally got a reaction. But when he opened his eyes, the helicopter was already long gone. The direction he sensed was exactly where the helicopter had disappeared. Jarvis stomped his feet in rage. "Shit! Go after it!" He dashed off, running blindly through the snowy dark. Matthew was startled and called out, "Hey! Wait up!" Is Jarvis serious? That's a helicopter! How are we supposed to catch up? The man ignored him. He took off, running with his stubby legs as fast as he could. In a panic, Matthew tossed the burning log he was holding. There was a loud thud, and Jarvis collapsed face-first in the snow. "Damn it! Shit! Idiot!" Jarvis's curses echoed while Matthew shrank back and ran over, nervously helping him to his feet. "Don't get mad, Jarvis, I just panicked..." Then he started to reason with him, talking as gently as he could. "Look, I know you want revenge, but we can't just run off like this." He gestured at the darkness all around. "You don't even have a flashlight. We can't see anything. We need to bring some warm clothes and food. You know, something to keep us going. Otherwise, we'll just drop dead on the road before we catch anyone!"Jarvis still looked furious. "By the time you get your stuff, they'll be gone!" Matthew rolled his eyes. "Come on, man. It's a helicopter. Would it really matter if you ran after it now or a minute later? Even if you started at the same time as the chopper, you wouldn't catch up. "You've got the tracking technique. What's the rush? If you want revenge for your brother, you need to make sure you don't die first!" That finally got through to Jarvis, and his face relaxed a bit. He stared at the dark sky, grinding his teeth. "I'll get you, just wait!" The two of them headed back to the warehouse and ran into Selene. She'd also seen the helicopter in the sky, and of course, she'd heard Jarvis yelling. She couldn't help but wonder, was it that couple flying the helicopter? Are they even human? They just wiped out a thousand-person gang, and now they pulled a helicopter out of nowhere? Where were they hiding all this time? How did those two dummies search for so long and still miss them? She watched the helicopter disappear and thought, Man, I wish I could hitch a ride with them. Forget the apocalypse—even before this mess, I'd never been on a private helicopter. With leaders like that, I'd never need to jump from job to job again. If the pay was good, I'd be loyal for life. Jarvis didn't know what she was thinking. Seeing her at the door, he assumed she was there to help and nodded, giving a command. "You! Go boil us some water." It was freezing, and after falling in the snow, he was chilled to the bone. He needed heat, inside and out.Selene nodded, acting submissive, then turned and rolled her eyes as soon as he wasn't looking. She deliberately chose the dirtiest water she could find, spat in the pot for good measure, then set it over the fire. She squatted by the flames, waiting for the water to boil and eavesdropping on their conversation. Matthew, wrapped up in so many layers he looked like a marshmallow, asked, "Jarvis, how are we supposed to bring our supplies with us?" Selene clenched her fists out of sight. Your supplies? Who says they are yours? Unbelievable. Jarvis, warming his hands, answered, "We're going light." Matthew blinked, not following. "What? What do you mean by going light?" Selene piped up cheerfully, "He means you shouldn't take too much." Jarvis grunted in agreement. She couldn't hide her grin. Going light was perfect—she'd get to keep the rest of the supplies! She silently thanked the couple for luring these two jinxes out of her hair. Matthew looked miserable. "Go light? No way!" He looked around at all the supplies, feeling a deep sense of loss. He'd planned to spend the rest of his life with these supplies. And now Jarvis told him they would go light?
