Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 654 Let's Get Out of Here

Matthew gave an involuntary shiver. If their target was the same murderer who'd wiped out everyone nearby, that was just too horrifying. Explosions, poison, gunshots, bodies frozen into statues—he had seen a whole buffet of death in such a short span. There had to be at least a thousand bodies piled up out here. Matthew started to back out. "Jarvis, there's nothing here but corpses. No one made it out alive. I bet the person who killed Zyrell is dead already..." He pleaded, "Let's just grab the stuff from that warehouse and get out of here! This ancient city is way too creepy. We should go live in the city center. I could..." Before he could finish, Jarvis snapped, "Idiot! You're a coward, that's what you are. If you want to leave, go by yourself!" Jarvis was sure the person who killed his brother wasn't among the dead. He trusted his own shadow arts. The killer had to still be alive, probably hiding behind some special barrier or trick to block his senses. Drakoria was massive, and it was clearly full of talented people. Jarvis was not surprised that there were powerful people who could do that. No matter what, he was going to get revenge for his brother. So what if it was dangerous? The stronger the enemy, the more excited he felt. After all, his whole reason for coming to Drakoria was to challenge the strong and prove the Selwyns‘ shadow arts were the best in the world. There was no way he'd back down now. Matthew pouted but didn't dare argue anymore. There was no way he'd leave by himself. He knew his own limits. His skills were no match for what was out there. Without Jarvis, he wouldn't be able to hang on to those supplies. He'd end up a frozen corpse in no time.He had basically zero survival skills and was hopeless at surviving the apocalypse. If it wasn't for Jarvis, he'd have died years ago. Since Jarvis was strong and he was weak, the only thing he could do was submit to him. Matthew followed Jarvis obediently, searching every inch of the mall. They didn't find anything useful until they reached the basement and finally ran into some survivors. The women in the basement had been locked up for so long they'd lost the nerve to even try to run. Even though things outside had quieted down, none of them dared leave. They were terrified some angry Greendale Gang thug would catch them and torture them to death. After all, plenty of women who tried to escape had died that way. The ones still alive were just used to obeying orders. Even when these two strangers barged in, it didn't occur to them that the Greendale Gang was gone. They just figured some new guys had joined the gang after a big fight. Jarvis and Matthew gathered all the women and questioned them, but got nothing useful. They were just a group of unlucky prostitutes locked in this hellhole. They didn't even know what was happening above. The more Jarvis and Matthew questioned them, the more frustrated they got. To be honest, only Jarvis was really disappointed, since he was obsessed with revenge. Matthew, who hadn't been around women in forever, was already drooling over the girls. In a nearby room, Guinevere and Selina heard voices outside. They thought for a second that maybe Natalie had finished the fight and come down. Selene tensed up, straining to figure out whose side the newcomers were on so she could decide how to play things. But to their surprise, it wasn't Natalie or any Greendale Gang members—it was two complete strangers. Listening to the questions outside, the three women realized these men were looking for Natalie and Cassian. They looked at each other, but before anyone could act, someone started banging on the door. Jarvis kicked it open in seconds. But he was let down again—there was no sign of that damn bird. He looked at the three women and held up the feather in his hand. "Have you ever seen this bird?" He paused, then added, "Or anyone who might be connected to this feather?" The three women recognized it instantly—it was from that mutant rooster that always stuck close to Natalie. The thing was so distinctive that they couldn't miss it. Still, all three shook their heads and answered, "No." Selina and Guinevere would never rat out the person who saved them. If it weren't for Natalie and Cassian, they'd be dead by now. Selene, on the other hand, just wanted to stay out of trouble. Besides, this skinny guy clearly wasn't up to any good. Jarvis looked them over but didn't push. It was obvious they were prisoners, so there was no way they knew anything useful. He called for Matthew and got ready to leave. But the man didn't answer. When Jarvis turned around, he found Matthew standing there, totally entranced by the two pretty girls. He was practically drooling.
