Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
Selina asked in confusion, "What's wrong?" "You ... come in and talk. It's cold outside." Natalie's attitude was noticeably gentler. Selina didn't understand why, but still obediently walked into the room. As soon as she entered, she immediately felt much warmer. The room's furnishings were simple, similar to her and Guinevere's room. The only difference was... These two had set the inn's wooden table on fire for warmth. Selina's lips twitched. Why hadn't she thought of burning the wooden furniture when she was freezing like a popsicle earlier? Seeing her staring blankly around the room, Natalie didn't guess that she was marveling at her bandit-like behavior. After all, she didn't see anything wrong with burning the inn's furniture. Anyway, that table had been corroded twice and was already ruined beyond recognition. Repurposing junk was perfectly reasonable. She thought maybe she'd left something out that she hadn't put away in her storage space. So she silently checked around to confirm there weren't any supplies that shouldn't be visible. After confirming nothing was overlooked, Natalie assumed Selina was still cold and handed her one of the blankets the innkeeper's wife had sent over. The storage space heater and electric blanket had just been put away in her storage space. They'd have to make do with this temporarily lit fire. The three little ones were uncomfortable and leaned close to the fire to warm themselves. Selina looked up and saw that stern, unsmiling man sitting beside the three strange pets. Like Natalie, he also had an odd expression as he looked at her. Seeing both members of the couple had strange expressions, Selina couldn't help but ask, "What's wrong?"Natalie moved a chair over, gestured for her to sit, and then earnestly advised. "I'm sorry for your loss. Try not to let the grief overwhelm you." Selina was taken aback by her suddenly kind attitude and quickly nodded. "Thank you for your concern." Natalie studied her expression and got to the point. "What did you mean by what you said outside the door earlier?" Selina replied with reddened eyes, "After I woke up this morning, I thought it over from every angle, and I still feel there's something fishy about Anthony's disappearance." As she spoke, she looked down at the ring on her hand. She'd put the couple's ring back on her finger. "Anthony suddenly became infatuated with the innkeeper's wife, who was a complete stranger, then suddenly disappeared from this inn in the dead of night, and that suspicious meat was brought back by the innkeeper." She bit her lip. "I just can't believe all of this is coincidence." Natalie didn't say a word. Of course. It only took her forever to figure out something so obvious. Selina obviously thought of this too and said with a puzzled expression, "I just don't know why, but I always felt before that the innkeeper's wife was a good person who definitely wouldn't hurt us. "Maybe it was getting frozen last night that suddenly cleared my head. The more I thought about it, the more wrong it seemed. Then I thought of you two and felt I should come warn you." Natalie didn't say any pleasantries but asked directly, "Why warn us?" After all, three years into the apocalypse, everyone was used to minding their own business, and her attitude toward Selina and Guinevere had never been exactly friendly.Natalie thought she was going to give the same old speech about thanking her and Cassian for suddenly appearing that night and saving their lives. Unexpectedly, she looked up at Cassian with reddened eyes and said, "I just don't want to see another couple end up like us." Her voice carried a sob. "Anthony and I were just like you two before—loving and stable. The day before we came here, he told me that once we got to Rastopia and met my parents, our two families would live together from then on. "I never expected that as soon as we stayed here, he'd act like he was possessed and cast me aside like trash. My state wasn't right either. I blindly trusted the innkeeper's wife." As she spoke, she nervously looked around and said in a low voice. "This couple must have used some kind of method. Maybe they scattered some colorless, odorless poison around the inn that makes people's heads fuzzy." Natalie didn't trust any strangers, so she didn't explain the cursebug discovery in detail. She just gave a hint. "What about food and drink? Aren't those the easiest things to tamper with?" Understanding dawned on Selina's face. "You're right! Food and drink are the easiest to tamper with." Then she said dejectedly, "We were too stupid, trusting them for no reason. You two were smart, staying holed up in your room eating dry rations rather than eating their stuff." Since Natalie and Cassian only carried two backpacks, she naturally assumed they were stuck in their room miserably eating dry rations. Natalie didn't say much else but asked, "What do you plan to do next?" Selina clenched her fist. "I must avenge Anthony! This shady inn and the Greendale Gang—I won't let either of them go!" Natalie was about to ask how Selina planned to avenge him when she heard her sigh in defeat. "But not right now."
