Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
Olivia and Harold exchanged glances and said in unison, "Those are supplies you confiscated. How can we take them?" While they were talking, Roderick arrived too. After hearing about dividing the supplies, his reaction was even stronger than Olivia and Harold's. He waved his hands repeatedly. "I can't take any! I didn't help much, and I even lost Lucky and the others ... " Lucky in the distance heard this and immediately rolled her eyes in disdain. Lost me? As if you could! I ran off on my own! I charged straight into enemy territory with a clear purpose to be Natalie's vanguard! Despite everyone's refusals, Natalie's attitude was firm. Back then, she hadn't brought them along to the Grayhound Sect because she needed to interrogate Jacob, and not one of them had objected. Even knowing there would likely be supplies to harvest from the Grayhound Sect, none of them had complained. Just for that reason alone, Natalie recognized these partners and was willing to share the supplies with them. "The apocalypse is unpredictable. No one knows how hard life will get or how long the hard times will last. We all need to stockpile as much as we can while we still can." She looked at Harold. "Ghania is getting up there in years and can't handle hardship. Those supplies you stockpiled before won't last more than a few years before they're gone." Then she looked at Roderick. "You still have a wife and kid to support." Finally, she looked at Olivia, who had no family ties and was all alone."Didn't you say you wanted to grow stronger alongside me? If you don't take what you should take now, what are you going to do later when you run out? Come borrow from me?" Natalie said with a serious expression, "We're a team. When we face danger, we stand together. When we divide the rewards, it should naturally be fair too. That's how we can grow together and move forward as one." Even Cassian, who was usually a man of few words, spoke up. "Even between brothers, you keep clear accounts. Take what you should take." Eventually everyone was convinced, but they didn't agree to split everything evenly. The most important weapon for killing enemies had been provided by Natalie. They'd only contributed some strength and made the show of force more impressive. How could they split it evenly? So after discussing together, they decided Natalie would take half, and the other half would be divided evenly among Olivia, Harold, and Roderick's three households. As for weapons, Natalie had plenty of guns and ammunition. The Grayhound Sect's homemade guns and bullets were all left to the other three families for self-defense. Cassian drove the supply-loaded truck out of the garage, and everyone started dividing things up in the courtyard. Olivia and Harold's vans could hold quite a bit. Roderick was driving Villa 1's MPV. Though the cargo space was smaller, he could make several trips and get everything loaded. The group worked methodically. Those who needed food took food first, those short on household items grabbed those first. There was no fighting, no shoving—completely harmonious. When the Griffith brothers arrived, this was the lively scene of supply distribution they walked into. Arnold's eyes went wide. "Did we just crash a loot division?" "Watch your language!" Dennis shot him a look, then said thoughtfully, "So these are the 'three or four friends' Ms. Ashford mentioned ... "Arnold looked at them, a bit envious. "Following this lady really means getting a piece of the pie." This truckload wasn't like the plain dried goods they'd earned before. The variety of supplies here was rich and diverse, with everything you could want. Several items were things his household was short on too! Money couldn't buy them—he'd been trying to trade dried food for them with no luck. Natalie quickly noticed them. The Griffith brothers immediately came over to greet her. "We finished delivering the water and wanted to come say goodbye to you. "Ms. Ashford, we seem to keep running into each other. If you ever need any help in the future, just let us know." As he spoke, he carefully wrote down their address at the official base on a piece of paper and handed it over. Natalie understood clearly. These two were trying to curry favor with her. Through their several transactions, she could tell these brothers had sharp instincts. They were not only shrewd but also excellent middlemen. They might come in handy later. So she smiled warmly, exchanged a few more pleasantries with them, and then they said their goodbyes. ... Unlike the relaxed and cheerful atmosphere at the villa, the Grayhound Sect was a different story ... Iris stumbled out of the livestock pens like a walking corpse. Emerson was already dead. The livestock pens reeked with filth, filled with people who looked like beggars everywhere.Unlike the labor camp, there were no guards inside the livestock pens. Usually, guards would stand watch outside, but today they'd all gone to Greenhaven Mountain with Lisa. So when she entered, she didn't encounter any obstacles. She just kept calling out for her father many times, but no one responded to her. The human-sheep locked inside had long been beaten into submission. They'd all witnessed others who tried to escape being skinned and carved alive. So when the door first opened, no one dared to make a move. They all obediently huddled on the ground. At first they cautiously observed her. Only after confirming that no guards came in to drag away this little girl who'd broken in did these people dare to stand up and peek outside.
