Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
Natalie and Cassian entered the house. A rooster and a rabbit immediately rushed out excitedly to greet them. Cash was all over his owners, and he even rubbed against Cassian too, trying to butter up both of them. Baron looked behind them, glancing around. Natalie knew it was looking for Lucky. So while marveling at the loyal dog's devotion, she released Lucky from her storage space. Letting the three little ones run wild and play around the house, Natalie and Cassian sat down on the couch to rest while waiting for Olivia and the others to arrive. After closing her eyes to rest for a moment, Natalie suddenly suggested, "Let's go to your warehouse. We really should move all the supplies into the storage space. Leaving them in an unguarded place doesn't feel secure enough." Cassian froze for a moment, then visibly brightened up. "Okay." Natalie watched his wide smile and couldn't help raising an eyebrow. "Why are you so happy?" Cassian smiled and stroked her hair without saying anything. From what he knew about Natalie, her willingness to accept his warehouse meant she'd truly accepted him completely and had no plans to leave him. How could he not be happy? Still puzzled, Natalie asked again, "What are you smiling about?" Cassian's lips curved. "Nothing. Just thinking that proposing worked." Natalie didn't catch on. "Huh?" Cassian looked completely confident. "If you're accepting the engagement ring, you're not going anywhere." Natalie was exasperated. Cassian was really something with all this ceremony—proposals, engagement rings, thinking about more of this stuff than she did as the woman. Most couples in the apocalypse just shacked up together. Who still went through all these formalities like before the apocalypse? Natalie teased with a smile, "Aren't you afraid I'll take the engagement ring and run?" Cassian's lips curved, not worried in the slightest. He asked back, "When are you planning to go?" Natalie thought about it. "Let's wait until the fog clears. Whether we go by land or flying, it's too unsafe in this thick fog." Besides the northern warehouse, Cassian's other two warehouses were extremely far away—one in the far south of Drakoria, another way out west. Compared to collecting supplies, safety was the top priority. Based on her previous life's experience, this thick fog should clear up in about four more months. And there would be a few days' buffer between the fog and the Frostfall, that's the right time to fly there and bring all the supplies back. Of course, she couldn't rule out other changes due to the butterfly effect. They'd just have to adapt when the time came. Anyway, they now had snowmobiles and climate suits, so even if the Frostfall suddenly arrived early, it wouldn't affect their travel. Cassian was silent for a moment, then suddenly said, "Perfect timing to have the wedding then." Natalie was startled by his leap in logic. "What?" Cassian said, "Going to the south, then going to the northwest. During an apocalypse, it's rare to get to travel that far. Might as well call it a honeymoon." Natalie pursed her lips. "That's just an excuse."But unexpectedly, Cassian readily admitted it. "Yep." Then he said solemnly, "The honeymoon is an excuse. Marrying you as soon as possible is what I really want." Natalie looked at him, unable to suppress the smile at the corners of her mouth. This man's smooth talk was getting better and better. And she totally fell for it. So with a smile, she agreed. "Alright." They'd already slept together. She couldn't just keep him in limbo forever, right? Hearing her answer, Cassian rarely showed his emotions so openly, visibly excited. Just as the atmosphere between them was getting more and more intimate, the doorbell rang. Natalie coughed and pushed him away. "Harold and the others are here. Go open the door." Cassian took a deep breath. "Should've told them to come tomorrow instead." But he still obediently went to open the door. Olivia came in looking worried. "What happened? Why'd you specifically tell us to drive over? Are we going somewhere?" Harold was carrying door repair tools. "I also strapped a big gate to the roof of my car. I'll install it for you guys in a bit. Your courtyard right now—anyone with legs can just walk in!" What great friends! But Natalie still declined. "No need. We have a door." Harold remained enthusiastic. "What kind of door is that? Is it sturdy? The one I brought was taken from someone else's house when I was scavenging supplies in the Hillside Villa District. Really good quality!"He'd practically scoured all the abandoned villas and houses with collapsed yards, finding plenty of good stuff. Forget doors—he didn't even pass up scrap metal. Natalie smiled. "My door was confiscated from the Grayhound Sect. It's pretty sturdy too. Can't easily be broken down." Then she looked at Olivia. "I called you all over because I wanted us to divide up the Grayhound Sect's supplies together. "That female leader's been successfully dealt with. We left a small portion of the supplies for the captives there and brought the rest back. We'll split it evenly."
