Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 519 Lucky's Gift

"All right! Let's be the strongest wolves!" They used to be full of fire, fighting side by side. How did they end up like this? All that fighting and scheming ... In the end, someone else got everything. The crew was gone. All the supplies they'd fought for were someone else's now. And Joe, still hiding in that water tank ... Lisa stared wide-eyed. Regret. She regretted everything! If only she'd looked deeper when checking out those hillside villas! If only she'd known ... Lisa stopped breathing, her eyes still open. Lucky sniffed her to make sure she was gone, then trotted back to Natalie, head held high. Seeing Natalie holding the empty gun, Lucky hopped a few times and shook her head proudly. Natalie raised a brow. "You did that?" Lucky grinned, nodded, then motioned for them to follow. Natalie and Cassian exchanged a look and followed Lucky upstairs again. This time, she led them to the room next to Lisa's bedroom. Lucky smoothly opened the door and invited them in. As soon as Natalie stepped inside, she recognized the smell. The three little ones had always been kept clean, always smelling like pet shampoo. The room clearly showed they'd been staying here. Natalie bent down and picked up one of Cash's feathers. She raised a brow at Lucky. "You guys were living pretty comfortably here, huh?" Lucky proudly lifted her head. Of course! I can thrive anywhere! Then she hopped onto the bed, wagging her head, and used her mouth to lift the blanket. Natalie finally saw it—the bed was covered in bullets. She was surprised. "You guys stole this many bullets?" Lucky frowned and let out an unhappy "Ow, ow, ow!" Natalie looked at Cassian. He chuckled and translated, "She says it's not stealing; it's ‘strategic relocation.'" Natalie laughed. She rubbed the dog's head. "Good girl!" She'd been worried about them back home, but they were perfectly safe—and even had time to swipe the enemy's bullets! Where else would you find pets this smart and capable? Lucky kept whining and acting cute, like she was complaining about something. Cassian translated, "She says she couldn't sleep last night because the bullets were poking her, and she didn't even get a blanket. She wants to know if you feel bad for her." Natalie held back a laugh. She played along. "Of course I feel bad!" Then she patted her head. "How about extra chicken legs tonight, and you can sleep in the bedroom with us again?" Before Lucky could react, Cassian said, "No." Lucky grumbled right away. Stingy!Cassian looked seriously at the dog. "When you're there, I can't do important things." Seeing Lucky's confused look, Natalie punched his arm. "Shut up!" Cassian smiled slightly. "Let's reward her another way." Then he thought about it, patted Lucky's head, and said, "How about pork knuckles every day for a week?" He paused for effect. "And Cash doesn't get any." That hit the spot. Lucky happily nodded. She loved it when her hooman and Hottie played favorites—just for her, not that playboy rooster! Cassian chuckled and tugged her ear. She didn't seem to realize that Cash doesn't even eat pork knuckles. After Natalie stored all the bullets, Lucky led them back to Lisa's room next door. They'd been too focused on searching earlier, so Lucky hadn't had time to show off her little "gift." The room was a mess. Lucky sniffed around, then stopped at a floorboard and tapped it with her paw. Hollow. Natalie quickly stepped forward and pried it open. Underneath was a stash of emeralds, amber, gold, and more. They were the loot Lucky had taken from those Grayhound Sect thugs. Those guys had robbed plenty of people and kept all the fancy stuff they couldn't use before the apocalypse hit. Lucky just collected it all in one go. Along with Lisa's personal stash, stored together. It wasn't essential, so she left it behind when she ran. Natalie looked at the loot and asked, "This was all Lisa's?" Lucky shook her head and motioned for Cassian to translate. Cassian's mouth twitched as he listened, then translated, "This was all collected by the Dog ... Boss. She was just keeping them with the dumb ... woman temporarily, and planned to gift them to her beautiful, unbeatable hooman." After translating, he tapped Lucky's head. "Watch your mouth." Natalie looked at him. "What did she say?"
