Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
Lisa waved her hand and ordered her men. "Take them to get cleaned up. Give them fresh clothes." Before Lillian could feel relieved, Lisa added, "Then send them to the labor camp." Rosalie's face went pale. "I'm not going back! Make Natalie go instead!" Lillian was terrified. "I'm already old. My daughter is grown. How can you ... " Lisa stayed calm. "Don't sell yourself short. You still look pretty classy to me." Lillian's chest tightened with anger. "You ... you're ungrateful!" Lisa ignored her. She turned to her men. "And send this guy back to the livestock pens." The guards stepped forward and started dragging Lillian, Derek, and Rosalie away. Lillian thrashed wildly, screaming the same old line. "You can't do this! I'm a respected lady in Northlorn!" Lisa narrowed her eyes and stopped the men. She looked Lillian in the eye. "Since you gave me an idea earlier, I'll give you a choice. "You don't have to go to the labor camp. You can go back to the livestock pens instead." She waved her hand. "Let her decide for herself." The guards loosened their grip. Lillian stared at Lisa for a long moment. Then she stayed where she was. She'd rather live humiliated than die with pride. At least in the labor camp, she might survive. Lisa smirked. "So, you're not going to join your lover in the livestock pens after all?"Derek roared in fury. "I'll kill you!" Lillian cried miserably as she and Rosalie, who was still frozen in shock, were dragged out. Lisa glanced at Derek's bulging veins. "End him tonight." "Yes, Ms. Eland!" "Wait." Lisa thought for a moment. "Salt him first. Make jerky out of him." She hated homewreckers more than anything. Even men. "Yes, Ms. Eland!" Meanwhile, Cash returned to the room Lisa had given them. Lucky was sprawled on the big bed. When she heard a beak tapping on the door, she rushed over and pulled it open. Cash strutted in and told her everything Lisa had planned. He flapped his wings and laughed in his clucking voice. Lucky's tongue lolled out, and she chuckled, too. She had thought Lisa's schemes would shake the world. Turns out, they weren't that impressive. Lucky barked at Cash and Baron. Then the three animals huddled together, planning their own move. Later that night, Natalie sat in the living room of Hillside Villa District, eyes locked on the security screens. She was terrified of missing Lucky, Cash, and Baron coming back. Cassian sat with her. Neither of them felt sleepy. He knew she was restless, so he got up and sliced a plate of chilled fruit, placing it on the table.Natalie grabbed a cold grape, popped it into her mouth, and swallowed. The cool taste calmed her fire for a moment, but it flared up again. She stuffed a piece of watermelon into her mouth, never taking her eyes off the screen. Cassian knew she looked calm, but inside she was burning. He was about to speak when something on one of the cameras caught his attention. "Nattie. Zoom in on that." Natalie did it right away but saw nothing strange. "What is it?" Cassian frowned. "I thought I saw something flashing in the distance." Natalie studied the screen again. At first, it looked normal—just the yard outside the wall and a stretch of heavy fog. But if you looked closely, there really was a faint light flickering far away. The fog almost hid it. "I'll check it out!" Natalie vanished in a blink. A few seconds later, she returned with something in her hand. Cassian leaned closer. It was a kid's toy light, powered by batteries, blinking on and off. A rolled-up note was tied to it. Natalie said, "I checked. No one's outside. This must've been sitting there for a while. It was far away, and the fog was thick, so we didn't notice at first." They unrolled the paper. As Natalie read, her face grew grim. The letter was from Lisa herself, addressed to Villa 1. Lisa had been careful. She left it far from the cameras, out of clear view, so they couldn't track her back to her base. She even tied it to the toy light so they wouldn't miss it. After dropping it off, she bolted. Then she ran to Villa 12, where the Jensens lived. 20 of the Grayhound Sect's best fighters were already waiting for her there.
