Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 486 A Special Welcome

No wonder Natalie could marry into a rich family. Lisa hadn't expected Natalie's relatives to be sitting right in front of her. That put her in a very good mood. She turned her gaze to the man who had been shielding Lillian this whole time. So this must be Natalie's father, Mr. Holland's father-in-law? Lisa decided they deserved a "special welcome." She waved her hand for food to be brought over. Philbert and the others knew her too well. The moment they saw her signal, they understood. They didn't bother preparing anything fresh. Instead, they scraped together leftovers from the tables and dumped them all into a pile. They didn't offer Lillian a chair either. They just tossed the scraps in front of her like she was an animal, then untied her hands. Lillian wasn't picky. She had been drooling at the smell of food since the moment she was dragged into the hall. She dove straight in, scarfing it down on her hands and knees. Even while she ate, she didn't forget Derek. She needed his protection if she wanted to stay alive. With her mouth full, she mumbled at him, "Come on, eat!" Derek's hands were tied, so the only way he could eat was to shove his face into the pile like a dog. The two of them tore into the scraps as if it were a feast. That made the other hungry human-sheep nearby lose control. After a while, they rushed in, shoving and clawing for a bite. Lisa didn't stop them. She just leaned back in disgust, as if the sight offended her. Lillian wanted to fight the others off, but she was still badly injured from the beatings earlier. She had no strength left. So she did the only thing she could—she ate faster. She stuffed her cheeks until they bulged, shoving in one mouthful before she even swallowed the last. She wished she had another mouth just to fit more food. Just as she was enjoying herself most, Lisa waved her hand. Her men immediately came forward and scooped all the food away. Lillian screamed, "What are you doing? I'm not done! Give it back!" Food flew out of her stuffed mouth as she yelled, spraying half-chewed scraps everywhere. Lisa wrinkled her nose in disgust. "You've had a taste. If you want more, show me what you're worth." Lillian glared at her for a moment but quickly dropped her head. "Ask me." Lisa's eyes narrowed. "You said Natalie has guns, right?" Lillian nodded firmly. "Yes. More than one." Lisa's eyes lit up. "Oh? You sound pretty sure." Lillian glanced at the food that had just been taken away and said honestly, "When Natalie first moved in, she gunned down an entire family. That man, Cassian, even shot a couple dead in broad daylight. Both of them have guns. And from the sound of it, they aren't just carrying one kind either." Lisa tilted her head. "If Natalie is your daughter, why did she only move into Hillside Villa District later?" Lillian gave an awkward laugh. "I'm her stepmother. Living with her was ... uncomfortable." Lisa studied her for a moment, then turned her gaze to Derek. "Natalie's father doesn't talk much, does he?" Lillian froze, then quickly explained, "No, no—this isn't Jacob. This is my ... my lover. His name's Derek." She had already figured out these people were after Natalie. So she wasn't going to act like some devoted stepmother. Better to exaggerate her value, trade information for food, and maybe win herself a chance to survive. She definitely wasn't dumb enough to paint herself as Natalie's loving mom. "I split with her dad a long time ago. I have nothing to do with the Ashfords anymore. Whatever you want to do, don't worry about me. I'll just give you the intel." Lisa raised a brow in surprise. So the man beside her wasn't Natalie's father after all. "Your family's ... a mess," she muttered. Then she pressed on. "So how many guns do they have? What kind? Do they have anything besides guns—other weapons?" Lillian thought for a moment. "I don't know the exact number. I don't know the types either. But the shots were loud." "As for other weapons ... I haven't seen any." Lisa rolled her eyes. "Useless." She took a slow breath, then asked, "What about their skills? How good are they in a fight?" Lillian's eyes flicked to the food again. "How about you give me another bite first ... " When Lisa stayed silent, her gaze snapped back to Lisa's face and caught the cold warning in her eyes. Remembering her earlier beating, Lillian shrank back and rushed to answer. "I don't know about Mr. Holland. He's lived in luxury his whole life—what kind of fighter could he be? "As for Natalie, she learned a little martial arts in college. But the disaster hit right after she graduated. Before that, I swear she didn't know a single move."
