Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 381 Let's Eat First

Right in front of Jacob, Lillian didn't dare argue with Maisie. She quickly moved aside instead. Rosalie jumped in, blocking Maisie. "Dad, what dog? Mom wouldn't send a dog after you!" Jacob's leg twitched painfully. His face was pale. "It was a huge white dog that looked like a pig. Someone must've sent it. It came straight for me!" "A white dog that looks like a pig?" Rosalie's eyes went wide as she remembered the cake incident. "That's Natalie's dog!" Jacob looked up in surprise. "Natalie's dog?" She nodded firmly. "Yeah! I saw it at her place last time. She owns it!" Hearing that, Lillian quickly chimed in, "Honey, she even let her dog bite you! How can you still trust her? It wasn't me! I swear!" Tears brimmed in her eyes as she looked pitiful. "If I truly stole the supplies, wouldn't it make more sense to run off with them instead of staying here?" Honestly, she had a point. Jacob and Maisie both calmed down a little. Lillian seized the chance to make herself look even more aggrieved. "I didn't even have dinner last night. I'm starving. Why would I stay here and starve when I could just take food?" Maisie cut her off impatiently. "Alright! Enough! Enough! You're not the only one who's hungry! Jacob also needs to eat. Let's eat first, then figure everything out!" Rosalie pouted. "But there's nothing left at home." Maisie put her hands on her hips. "Who says there isn't?" The other three stared at her in surprise.Rosalie scanned the area eagerly. "Where's the food, Grandma? Is there a secret room I don't know about?" Maisie rolled her eyes. "Secret room? No. We're going somewhere else." Lillian was confused. "Somewhere else? Where?" Maisie just smiled mysteriously. "You'll see. For now, help Jacob up." Still somewhat doubtful, Lillian and Rosalie helped him up and followed Maisie outside. There wasn't any other choice. Their house was basically an empty shell now, totally unlivable. If Maisie could find food, at least they had a chance. Lillian and Rosalie supported Jacob as they left the villa. As they stepped out, Lillian couldn't help but glance back. Most of her life had been spent fighting for this villa. She finally had it. Was she truly leaving it behind? Rosalie also looked back reluctantly. She'd only lived in Natalie's princess room for a little over two years and wasn't ready to give it up. Holding onto her father, she asked as they walked, "Grandma, will we ever come back?" Maisie led the way. "Of course!" She hadn't even had enough time in the luxurious main room yet. Once she experienced the good life, she never wanted to go back to being poor. She clenched her fist. "Once we get our supplies, we're moving right back in!" Rosalie wasn't as sure. Even if they got the supplies, how would they find a construction crew to fix the place up? And they didn't even know how to retrieve the supplies yet.Everyone stayed quiet as they walked. Jacob, still injured, barely managed to move as Lillian and Rosalie supported him. The heat was so intense that the two women could hardly keep moving after a while. Finally, Maisie stopped in front of a run-down villa. "We're here!" It had to be the shabbiest house in the Hillside Villa District. The gate hung open, and the door was crooked on the ground. All the windows were shattered, and a sun-bleached skeleton lay in the yard. Lillian frowned, looking around. "Isn't this the Mallins' place?" The Mallins had the worst luck in the district. Shortly after the apocalypse, their servants rebelled, killing and robbing the family while they slept. All six members of the Mallins died, and none survived. After that incident, most homeowners fired their staff. Maisie opened the gate, stepped around the skeleton, and headed inside. Lillian and Rosalie struggled to help Jacob, nervous as hell. Inside looked like a horror scene. Blackened blood splattered walls, floors, and couches. Trash covered the floors, leaving barely any room to walk. Even in the scorching heat, a shiver ran down Rosalie's spine. She asked in a shaky voice, "Grandma, why are we here? Is there truly anything to eat?" Maisie didn't answer. She led them to a first-floor bedroom. When she opened the door, five scattered skeletons lay inside. Bloodstained sheets and blankets were tossed everywhere. It was terrifying. Lillian screamed in terror. Rosalie immediately let go of Jacob and tried to run.
