Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
Cassian's mouth twitched. "Cash, is that you?" "Coo coo coo, coo coo coo coo!" Cash looked as pitiful as could be, clearly wanting a hug from Cassian. Unfortunately, he was so charred that Cassian could barely see his sad face. All he saw was a filthy, half-roasted chicken lunging at him. Cassian immediately took a step back. "Cash, you're a little burnt. Maybe we should bath you first before asking for hugs." Cash was speechless. "What hug? You've got some nerve asking for a hug!" Cassian turned around and saw Natalie, one hand on her hip and the other holding an empty basin, looking furious. He took the basin from her and asked with concern, "What happened? What did Cash do this time?" Natalie snorted. "What did he do? He's been up to no good! He snuck off to meet with some hens!" What hen? Snowy? Cassian raised his eyebrows. "So you decided to roast him over a fire?" Natalie frowned. "No! This idiot almost burned the whole house down!" Cassian looked even more confused. "How does sneaking around with hens end up setting a house on fire?" "Hmph ... Sigh, it's a long story." She paused and looked at Cassian. "Did you get what you needed?" Cassian nodded. "Yeah."Natalie stepped aside. "Let's talk inside." When Cassian walked into the villa, the burnt-black Cash quickly tried to wobble in after him. Natalie blocked him with her foot, glaring. "You're not coming in. Stay outside and reflect on your actions!" With that, she shut the door. Cash flapped his wings and squawked, "Coo coo coo!" Nobody paid him any mind. "Oh oh—!" Still no response. He wanted to keep calling, but he was worried the evil humans nearby would notice and turn him into fried chicken. So he closed his beak and started pecking at the door with a disgruntled "thunk thunk thunk." Let me in! Right now! Immediately! Still, nobody paid him any attention. Cash raised his head, annoyed. How could they treat me like this? I just made the same mistake every rooster makes. Do I really deserve such cold treatment? He circled the villa, but neither the front nor the back door was open, so he had to go back next door. Natalie had locked the gate tight, but it wasn't enough to stop a chicken. Cash held his breath, squeezed himself as small as he could, and slipped through two of the bars on the gate.He made it to his own front door, pecking and crowing so Lucky would recognize him. "Oh oh oh—" He waited a long time, but the house stayed quiet. What's that supposed to mean? He crowed again, then pecked at the door even harder. Stupid dog! Open the door! I know you can open it! Stop hiding in there! Inside, Lucky sprawled lazily on her special cushion, still savoring the lamb she'd just eaten. She licked her lips and glanced at the banging door. She'd known Cash was coming the moment he entered the yard. A dog's nose is sharp. She was even sharper than most dogs, so how could she not notice Cash? She just didn't want to deal with him. She'd had enough of that cocky rooster. He was always flapping around, strutting on her back, constantly showing off. Just today, he'd been praised by their owner for catching a few big roaches in the new house! Why let him in? He could go cool off somewhere else. Well, except ... Lucky sniffed the air.Something was off about Cash's scent tonight. He smelled just like her roast lamb. Cash pecked at the door for ages before finally giving up. That scheming fat dog is definitely playing dead! And that dumb bunny only ever follows her around, acting like a lackey. Ugh! Neither of them is any good. So Cash angrily squeezed back out of the yard. He sneaked around, keeping an eye on his surroundings. I'd better hide fast. If any hungry humans spot me, I'm doomed! Inside Villa 15, Cassian had just stepped inside, only to find the living room couch catching fire, with Harold desperately spraying it with water. Meanwhile, flames were flashing in the kitchen, and Ghania was shrieking and beating out the fire with a towel. Olivia was chasing a wild, raging hen all over the house. Cassian was speechless at the sight. He had no idea who he should help first. Natalie let out a long sigh. "This is all Cash's fault! As his owner, we're responsible, too." We? Cassian heard those words and couldn't help but smile. Natalie shot him a look. "Are you gloating?" Cassian's smile faded. "No."Natalie narrowed her eyes. "Then why were you smiling?"
