Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
The job with the Mervyns wasn't as good as the one Raven had before, but at least it was still a job. She didn't have to starve anymore. Back in the city, everything was chaos. She lived every day in fear, never sleeping well. But after moving into Mervyn Villa, she finally got a few solid nights of rest. She hadn't even enjoyed two quiet days when gunfire shattered the peace. Her heart, which had just calmed down, was now racing again. And besides the gunshots, she had also run into that weirdo, Theodore. He was terrifying. Theodore wanted her to use knives, shoot guns, fire arrows—even break stones with her chest. I'm just a maid! Could this world stop being insane for one second? She only wanted to lie low and survive, but apparently that wasn't allowed. Still annoyed, Raven decided to head upstairs to bring some fruit to Celina. After all, she had to serve the one who paid her. But as soon as she turned around, a shadow behind her made her jump. "Ah!" The figure stepped closer. "Did I scare you?" It was Theodore. Raven sighed inside when she saw his blond head. Him again. This lunatic. She lowered her gaze and forced a respectful tone. "Mr. Theodore, what brings you here all of a sudden?" He smiled. "I've been standing here for a while. You were so lost in thought you didn't notice me." Then he stared at her. "What were you thinking about?" Raven was speechless. Working for rich people felt like having no rights at all—not even her own thoughts were private. She forced a polite smile. "Mr. Theodore, I was just thinking about how to fold the towels so they'd look nicer." Theodore raised an eyebrow. "You're really serious about your work." Raven kept her eyes down. "It's my duty." He crossed his arms. "Cut it out. That's not what you were thinking. Tell me the truth." Raven wanted to roll her eyes. Do you have to stick your nose into even my thoughts? But Theodore blocked her path, and Raven started to panic. Celina was on a diet—if the fruit was late, she'd be in trouble. She had to get rid of him fast. So she said, "I wasn't thinking about much. Just ... those gunshots startled me." Theodore's eyes lit up. "Oh? Do you want to know what the gunshots were about?" Raven shook her head quickly. "No, I don't." Curiosity killed the cat. She wasn't looking to die. But Theodore kept pressing. "Then are you interested in learning how to use a gun? I've got some. I can teach you." Raven looked up in surprise. What's wrong with this guy? Does he have some weird hobby? Does he like watching the maids play with knives and guns? Or is this some strange role-play game of his? She said carefully, "Mr. Theodore, I don't ... " But then she paused. Wait ... this is the apocalypse. Maybe learning to shoot isn't such a bad thing. The world is dangerous. Having a way to protect myself might not be the worst idea. So she changed her words. "If the family needs it, I'm willing to learn." Theodore instantly looked delighted. Good. This girl looks just as good as Natalie, but she's soft and gentle. Not vicious like Natalie. If she learns the right skills, she won't be worse than her at all. Raven saw the crazy grin on his face and instinctively took a step back. This lunatic doesn't have good intentions. She asked carefully, "Why do you want me to learn to shoot? Do you have something special in mind?" Is he trying to put me on the security team? That wouldn't be too bad. Security guards ate better than maids, and their work was easier. They just had to take turns standing guard. But Raven didn't think a weak woman like her had a chance at that. Before she could figure it out, Theodore answered, "No special reason. I just like you. If you improve your combat skills, you can be my girlfriend later." Raven froze. Damn! All I did was eat your family's food in exchange for labor—and now you want my body too? She waved her hands quickly. "Mr. Theodore, thank you, but no. I'd rather not learn. Mrs. Mervyn is still waiting for me. I'll get going!" Without waiting for him to reply, she darted around him and ran. Theodore called after her in disappointment. "You don't have to learn guns! How about sword fighting? I've got a really good blade ... " Raven sped up. Run! If I'm too slow, this lunatic will catch me and make me his girlfriend! Theodore stood in the service room alone, deep in thought. She wasn't easy to win over. But right now, there weren't any prettier girls around. He didn't know how long Cassian had chased Natalie. But he wasn't about to lose. Meanwhile, back at the Bolton Residence, Natalie used her Blink ability to scan the place. Once she was sure no one alive was left, she relaxed and started gathering supplies. Her first stop was Isabelle and Saniya's walk-in closet.
