Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 326 Fake Cop

Isabelle said, "She's just a little girl. How could she possibly get an assault rifle? Even when her mother was alive, I never saw them with guns!" Natalie did not bother arguing. She flipped the rifle to single-shot, then pulled the trigger. Both mother and daughter were hit in the shoulders after she fired twice. "Ah!" The two women screamed in agony. Gunshots and screams echoed over the Hillside Villa District. Natalie leveled the gun and barked, "Shut up!" They immediately trembled and fell silent. Natalie pointed at them. "You, walk up the main road. You, walk down. While you walk, shout, ‘I'll never meddle again.' Got it?" The mother and daughter clutched their wounds and exchanged terrified looks. What did this mean? Parade them through the neighborhood? Humiliate them as a warning? However, they did not dare think too much since the gun was in Natalie's hands, and their lives were at her mercy. Isabelle was the first to bow her head. "Put the gun down and don't be impulsive, we'll do as you say..." Saniya nodded frantically. Natalie sneered, "If either of you dares sneak home, I'll come to your door and mow down your whole family."Both women shuddered. Fear made their eyes go hollow when they looked at Natalie. Soon, the villa district saw a scene no one had seen before. The Boltons' mother and daughter, clutching bloodied shoulders, ran through the neighborhood shouting, "I'll never meddle again!" "I'll never meddle again!" For a while, they drew a crowd. Lately, supplies in the neighborhood had run low; some households could not hold out and resorted to "borrowing" food from neighbors. So most people stayed home and rarely went out. After a long quiet, any commotion pulled residents to their windows. The Carters, who lived diagonally across from Natalie, heard everything first, since their windows were open and every sound carried. Before Natalie fired, Emerson frowned and said, "Isabelle isn't wrong. Natalie moved in here without our permission. If everyone copies her, won't this place turn into a shelter for beggars?" Talie tugged at him. "I told you to stop meddling." Emerson was about to argue when the shots rang out. Then, the Bolton mother and daughter came downstairs, wounded and humiliated, shouting apologies. Talia pointed at the blood on the road. "See? I told you to stop meddling." Emerson sighed. "That Natalie ... She really dared to fire a gun!" Talia shot him a look. "Put away your bookish logic. The world's changed." She glanced at Natalie, who was calmly repainting a wall nearby. "That girl isn't like her father. She has a bit of Scarlett's spirit."Emerson snorted. "She is just as hard to deal with as Scarlett. She might even be fiercer than most men." Talia rolled her eyes. "That's called a strong woman. You men just like to put capable women down." Emerson went back inside without another word. Natalie's mother, Scarlett, had once been legendary—a proper gentlewoman who carved a place for herself in the male-dominated business world. Apart from refusing a political marriage and marrying for love, her life had no stains. Talia sighed as she watched Natalie. "If Scarlett knew how her daughter was treated by her husband, she'd probably come back furious." Elsewhere, Frederick and Wilona also heard the shots. Wilona went pale watching Saniya parade below, wounded. "That cop actually shot them," she whispered. Frederick felt a chill. Lucky he had not gambled yesterday—one wrong move and he might not be here. He scowled. "I don't think that woman's really a cop." Wilona blinked. "But she was wearing a bulletproof vest ... " Frederick mused, "Not every man on a white horse is a prince; sometimes he's a farmer." Wilona was confused. "You mean ... she might be a fake cop?" Frederick rolled his eyes. "Not a fake, we just jumped to conclusions seeing the vest." He paused, then reasoned aloud, "More likely she killed a cop and took the gear."Wilona covered her mouth. "Killed a cop and took their equipment? That's brazen!" Frederick nodded, dead serious. "Exactly. Brazen! Look at her yesterday, she even threatened me with a gun." He touched his face. "I'm one of the biggest stars in Drakoria—everyone knows me—and she still dared to go after me!" Wilona thought a moment. "Yeah, if she's willing to mess with you, she's definitely a ruthless fugitive." Then, terrified, she grabbed Frederick's hand. "Sweetheart, can you get a gun too?"
