Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
Olivia suddenly caught on. "She acts just like a fake!" Natalie burst out laughing. "Wow, that's the first time I've heard someone call a kid that." Olivia frowned. "She never behaves that way when she's with me." Natalie asked leadingly, "Think a kid can have two sides?" "A kid ... " Olivia finally let her motherly blindness slip. "Nat, why do I suddenly feel creeped out?" Meanwhile, after chatting nonstop, Lottie finally stopped staring dreamily at Cassian's face. "Mom, what are you guys talking about?" Natalie jumped in with a grin. "We said you're more mature than most kids." Lottie instantly got defensive. After a short pause, she tilted her head and said, "No way! I'll always be Mom's baby." This kid truly loves tilting her head. Natalie thought Lucky's tilts were way cuter. Olivia didn't respond as usual. Lottie rubbed her fingers, about to say more, when her eyes suddenly caught a flash of green at Natalie's collar. "Natalie, what's that?" Natalie followed Lottie's finger and noticed her emerald necklace peeking out from under her shirt. Her eyes flickered, and she tugged it out."It's my necklace." She turned to Olivia. "Guess how much this one cost?" Olivia replied, "I don't know anything about emeralds." Then, like something clicked, she leaned in all gossipy. "Wait—did Mr. Holland buy it for you?" Natalie slipped into her happy-girlfriend act. "Yep! I told him I didn't need it, but he insisted!" She gave Lottie a quick look. As expected, Lottie's eyes flashed with jealousy, her sweet look almost slipping away. Cassian looked like he was about to laugh at Natalie showing off. Olivia stayed clueless about the tension and kept shipping them. "I knew it! He even asked me what you liked before. And now he gave you this perfect emerald!" Natalie was surprised, then looked at Cassian. Her voice turned more genuine. "Wait, he actually asked you?" Cassian just smiled back at her without saying a word. Olivia got all excited. "Yeah! You two weren't even dating yet!" Natalie toyed with the necklace, lost in thought. Then, Olivia remembered her earlier question. "Oh, right—how much did you say it was worth?" Natalie snapped back to her point and shot Olivia a playful wink. "Take a guess." Olivia thought it over. Cassian had money to burn, and he adored Natalie, so shooting high felt safe.So she said, "A million?" She couldn't even picture what a million-dollar necklace looked like, but he was a CEO. He could afford that. Natalie shook her head. "Nope." "Am I anywhere close?" "Not even close." Olivia figured that made sense. Sure, Cassian was rich, but Natalie wouldn't actually walk around with something worth that much. She glanced at him, a little guilty that her wild guess might've made him look bad. So she lowered it. "What about 100,000?" Natalie looked over at Lottie, who was eavesdropping hard. "Wrong way. It's way higher than a million." Olivia's eyes nearly popped. "What?!" Her brain just couldn't process rich people's stuff. "Nat, just tell me. I know nothing about this stuff." Natalie figured she'd teased enough and finally revealed, "It's worth 80 million." Olivia hadn't even reacted yet when Lottie exclaimed, "Eighty million?!" All three turned to stare at her. Realizing she slipped, Lottie cleared her throat and tried to cover. "I mean ... Did you say 8,000 or 80,000?" Natalie almost burst out laughing. Just a moment ago, this kid was talking like she knew everything, and now she can't even figure out 80 million? Her sneaky side was showing. If it weren't for that cute face of hers, she'd look downright silly. Natalie peeked at Olivia. Just as expected, her expression had soured. Natalie explained to Lottie, "Eighty million is 8,000 times 10,000. That's enough to buy about 26 houses like mine." She laid it out crystal clear. Lottie's sweet, innocent act began to slip. Natalie piled it on. "Wow, now that I think about it, my neck feels pretty heavy." Olivia burst out laughing. "No kidding—like carrying 26 houses on a chain!" Natalie laughed along. At moments like that, the true colors always slipped out. Olivia was genuinely thrilled for Natalie, but Lottie looked like she wanted to bite her. She didn't even bother hiding it anymore.
