Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 287 You're Way Too Sharp

Then, she added, "When the rain stops, I'll keep an eye out for you when I head out for supplies. Honestly, I never thought you'd suddenly need something like this." Natalie tried to explain again. "I truly haven't—" Olivia didn't bother listening. She shoved the items right back into Natalie's hands. "Just take them!" Natalie felt awkward, but she knew Olivia meant well. Turning her down felt wrong, so she accepted them for now, deciding she'd repay Olivia double once she had a boyfriend. Olivia relaxed once Natalie finally took them. "That's better. You need to look out for yourself." Her eyes lit up again. "When I get home, I'll dig around some more. Maybe I'll find extras. You two are stuck to each other all the time. Two boxes won't be enough!" Natalie quickly grabbed Olivia's arm. "Stop, that's enough. I already grabbed a few boxes at the supermarket just in case." Olivia's face brightened. "Wow, you truly think ahead!" Natalie's ears burned red. She'd only grabbed them as trade goods, not for use! She was just an inexperienced girl. Why was she standing here having this weird chat about condoms with her friend? Seeing how embarrassed Natalie was, Olivia decided to drop the teasing. "Alright, I'll head back. That's all I had to give you." Natalie stopped her. "Wait—Olivia, are you doing fine lately?" Olivia nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine."Natalie studied her carefully. Olivia did seem fine. "Then ... how's Lottie?" Olivia said, "She's good. We're both staying in, so nothing much happens." Natalie thought for a moment. "Why don't you bring her over later? It's not good for kids to stay cooped up all the time." Olivia hesitated, then nodded. Lottie had been begging to go out. "Alright." When Natalie got home, Cassian had already changed. She switched out of her damp clothes too, then told him, "I invited Olivia to bring Lottie over to play." He asked, "Are you worried?" "Yeah, just want to see how she acts." They hoped they were just imagining things. Not long later, Olivia arrived with Lottie. The moment Lottie walked in, she dashed at Natalie, jumping into her arms with a wide smile. "Natalie, I missed you!" Natalie froze for a second. Once she was sure Lottie wasn't dangerous, she smiled back. "If you missed me, why didn't you come to play?" Lottie stepped back and pouted. "Mom said I'd be a third wheel." Natalie caught the annoyance flash in Lottie's eyes. She arched a brow and glanced at Cassian, who was also watching. Lottie's eyes lit up with excitement as she spotted him. She bounced over, full of joy. "Cass, I missed you too!"Cassian's eyes narrowed. He sidestepped fast, and she nearly toppled over. She stumbled a few steps but managed to steady herself just in time. If she hadn't reacted fast, she would've gone face-first into the floor. Cassian said, "My bad, it was just an instinct." That line was aimed at Olivia. Then, he added, "Pretty quick reflexes." That one was meant for Lottie. She glanced at him, looking a bit hurt, but she stayed quiet. Natalie apologized to Olivia. "Sorry, Cassian gets nervous around women." That was the same cover story they'd used back at Cassiland Base. Then, she turned to Lottie. "Let me check—are you hurt?" Before Lottie could say anything, Olivia cut her off. "She's fine! She's not that fragile." Then, Olivia looked at Cassian. "Sorry, she's just a kid. She doesn't know any better." He glanced at the quiet kid. "Most kids don't move that fast. She's sharp, and her reflexes are solid." Lottie's face lit up at the praise, and she immediately tried to snuggle closer to him. Olivia quickly called her back. "Lottie, over here. Be good. Stop climbing all over people." With a pout, Lottie shuffled back to Olivia and sat down on the couch. After a beat, she blinked and asked across the room, "Cass, then how come you're not scared of Natalie?" Natalie raised an eyebrow. She could tell this brat was asking it on purpose. She asked bluntly, "Do you even know what it means when someone says they're nervous around women?" Lottie paused, then said, "I was just guessing. Does it mean being scared of girls?" Natalie smiled knowingly. "You're way too sharp for your age." Olivia chimed in, "Right? She's super mature. She understands everything." Lottie grinned proudly. "Not really. I just throw out random guesses." Natalie and Cassian exchanged glances.
