Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 250 What Friends Are For

Then Olivia asked, "Wait, didn't your rabbit get pregnant too?" Pregnant? Seriously? Natalie's mouth twitched. That little female rabbit had ended up in Lucky's stomach on day one. Olivia finally caught on. "Huh? Come to think of it, I've never seen your other rabbit." Natalie answered truthfully, "The little female one got eaten by Lucky the first day I brought her home." Olivia stared at her in shock. "So that's why this rabbit's so fat! His wife was sacrificed, no wonder he's got unstoppable power!" Natalie burst out laughing, nearly choking on her own breath. Before she could finish laughing, Olivia glanced over at Baron, who was sticking close behind Lucky like a loyal little shadow. She blinked and added, "So, that rabbit's basically serving the dog who murdered his wife?" Baron had been raised on the spring water from Natalie's storage space. He'd been able to understand human speech for a while now. As soon as he heard that, his ears twitched, and he bounded over in a huff. It's called "adapting to survive," thank you very much. What would you even know about it?! Natalie saw the fierce look in his eyes and immediately scolded, "No biting!" Baron might've looked like just a rabbit, but ever since he mutated and went through Natalie's training, he could tear through slabs of pork like they were paper. Add in his crazy agility, and your average adult woman wouldn't stand a chance against him. At her command, Baron froze mid-motion, then obediently hopped back behind Lucky, like nothing had happened.Olivia, wide-eyed, stared at the whole exchange. "Your rabbit can understand what we're saying?!" She glanced at her own two clueless little bunnies. "How'd you even train him? Mine only understands the word ‘food,' and even that's a maybe." Natalie held back a laugh. "Maybe it's because I talk to them all the time." Olivia looked thoughtful. "I guess I should start talking to mine more too." 1401 was already crammed with supplies, so there wasn't much space to begin with. Now, with Lucky running around and three rabbits chasing each other, the place felt downright chaotic. Leaning back on the couch, Natalie asked, "By the way, Olivia, you came looking for me earlier. Was there something you needed?" Olivia finally remembered. "Oh, right! I've developed a needle therapy that can treat the infection." Natalie blinked in surprise. "You're seriously getting better and better at this! You can treat this kind of illness with needle therapy?" Olivia had taught herself needlework-style medicine completely on her own. And in just over a year, she was already treating all kinds of conditions? Clearly, she had real talent. Olivia nodded. "Yup. I've already treated a lot of people this past week. I also use it on myself every day, and I haven't gotten sick, even though I've been around infected patients nonstop." Natalie was even more surprised. "You've already treated that many people? How come I haven't seen anyone coming to your place?" Olivia smiled. "I haven't been working from home. I took that old van and set up a street stall in Centralview District." "A street stall?" "Yeah. And I've actually made a good bit of trade, got plenty of supplies and water."If she'd practiced from home, people would've been lining up at her door 24/7. That wouldn't just mess up her own life, but also affect Natalie. By going somewhere no one recognized her, she could control her hours and come and go as she pleased. Natalie nodded approvingly. "People with real skills never go hungry." Olivia looked a little shy. "If you hadn't saved my life, I wouldn't even have the chance to talk about skills or anything else." Then she got to the main point. "Actually, the reason I came to find you was to ask if you want a few rounds of treatment too. I guarantee you won't catch the virus." Olivia really did think of her whenever something good came along. Natalie agreed without hesitation. "Dr. Solace didn't use me as a test subject, but she waited until she had real results before offering to treat me. Why would I say no to that?" Olivia grinned and teased, "Next time, I'll make sure you're the one I test on." Natalie waved her hands quickly. "No, no, no. I'm not volunteering to be your lab rat!" The two of them laughed and joked around for a while, until Natalie's tone turned more serious. "You're still going out alone to treat people. It's dangerous. When I get home, I'll grab a gun for you. Keep it on you, just in case." Olivia thought of that beast of an assault rifle Natalie carried on and shook her head. "It's hard to carry a rifle while doing needle therapy. And if I just leave it in the van, someone might steal it. That'd be even worse." Natalie understood. "Don't worry, I've got a compact handgun that's easy to carry." Olivia thought it over, then nodded. "Alright, that could work."She was getting supplies every day from her patients, and with the world the way it was now, walking around unarmed really was risky. Even with her head shaved, some of the more desperate wolves out there didn't care what a woman looked like. Carrying a pistol definitely felt safer. Olivia looked around the apartment. "But I can't just take a gun from you for free. All my supplies are here, look around and take anything you think you could use." Natalie glanced around, then shook her head. "Nothing I need. I just value your medical skills." The two women exchanged a look and shared a quiet smile—no more words needed. Just before she left, Natalie asked, "Hey, Olivia, can you use the needle therapy to fix other health problems too? While doing the immunization, I mean."
