Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 221 Thank Goodness It Wasn't Her

Following Cassian's recipe, Natalie mixed the sauce and finished making her burger. Once the burger was ready, she carried the plate over to the table and took a huge bite. Hmm... Why does it taste different from the one made by Cassian? The burger tasted okay, but it just didn't compare to Cassian's cooking. She frowned and took another bite. I wonder if Cassian's made it home by now? Meanwhile at the Hillside Villa District, Roderick was walking hurriedly into the villa at the very top of the hill. As soon as he walked in, he saw Cassian, who had just gotten home and was relaxing on the couch. "Mr. Holland, I've already put all your luggage away." Cassian nodded. Roderick asked respectfully, "Is there anything else you need me to do?" Cassian nodded again. Roderick said, "Alright, I'm listening." Cassian nodded once more. Roderick was left speechless. Is Boss getting senile early? Roderick took a closer look at Cassian's expression and realized his eyes were dazed. He must have been spacing out. So he hasn't heard a word I said! He waved his hand in front of Cassian's face. "Mr. Holland?" Cassian snapped out of it. "What?"Roderick repeated, "Your things are all put away. Is there anything else you need me to do?" Cassian glanced at him. "While I was gone, was there any trouble in the Hillside Villa District?" Roderick replied, "A lot of people have died from heatstroke lately. The Watsons ran out of water and got into a fight with the Powells a few days ago—some people died in that, too. Now the two families are fighting every few days." He paused, then added, "Mr. Theodore from Tyro Group stopped hosting pool parties. Rumor has it his dad wants to sell off their household wastewater." "Oh? Looks like he's got some business sense." Water really was impossible to come by these days. Cassian chatted with Roderick absentmindedly while getting up to pour himself a glass of water. Roderick eyed the shotgun slung over Cassian's shoulder and glanced around curiously. There isn't any danger around here ... So why is Mr. Holland suddenly being so careful, carrying a gun everywhere? He asked quietly, "Mr. Holland, did you find something out from your investigation?" Cassian put down his glass, seemingly unfazed. "Find out what?" Once again, Roderick was at a loss for words. Seriously, what did you do all that time you were out? Roderick answered, "I mean about the submachine gun. Is the mall theft related to Ms. Ashford?" Cassian perked up at the mention of Natalie. He glanced at his shotgun, thought for a moment, and replied, "When did I ever say she was involved?" Then he returned to the couch and picked up his tablet. Roderick was more confused than ever. If Mr. Holland doesn't suspect Ms. Ashford, then why did he follow her into Cassiland Base? Cassian pulled up the security footage of the mall theft on his tablet, paused on a particular frame, and zoomed in. The image showed a woman in profile. She was seated on an inflatable rescue boat. Her long hair was tied back, with messy bangs covering her eyes. Only her sharp nose was visible. Before, he'd just thought the face was too blurry to identify, but now he was sure—it was Natalie. Cassian zoomed in on the picture and smirked. That girl had lied to him, claiming she'd awakened her powers during the flood. But obviously, she'd had them even earlier. He found himself wondering where she'd teleported all those supplies. There was no way her teleportation could reach a thousand miles away, right? From Roderick's angle, he couldn't see what was on the tablet screen. He only saw Cassian staring at it in a daze. He was about to say something when Cassian looked up and asked, "Is there another backup of the surveillance footage from the mall theft?" Roderick replied, "The only copy is the one in your hands." Cassian nodded and deleted the file. Then he said, "Natalie didn't move the mall's supplies." Roderick breathed a sigh of relief. Thank goodness it wasn't Ms. Ashford.Honestly, I wouldn't know what to do if Ms. Ashford and Boss ended up as enemies. Then he asked, "Mr. Holland, about the mall theft ... " Cassian replied, "No need to investigate any further." Roderick was caught off guard. "No need to investigate?" Cassian unslung his shotgun, looked it over, and said, "At first, I just didn't want the authorities to find out I was keeping firearms. But now, it doesn't matter anymore." Roderick nodded. Back then, everyone thought the flood would pass, and order would return soon. But now, even the authorities were struggling to keep up. They wouldn't care who had firearms. Cassian stood up from the couch. "If there's nothing else, you can go rest." With that, he headed upstairs to his room. Roderick stared after him, puzzled. Why does Mr. Holland treat that shotgun like some precious treasure? All the guns he collected before were way better made than this one, but he never carried any of those around like this.
