Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 172 I Have Superpowers

Cassian frowned. "This isn't my base." "Huh?" Natalie looked puzzled. "Isn't this the Holland Group's base?" Even its name was inspired by his. Cassian pursed his lips. "I wouldn't do something so boring. Besides, the Holland Group doesn't even exist anymore." He sounded like he had a solid excuse for showing up. "I came here to see who's using my name to scam people." Natalie lowered her eyes, thinking. Now that she thought about it, the rumors didn't add up. If he wanted to set up his base, he'd want full control. Even if it wasn't at the hillside villa, he'd keep it nearby. There was no reason to set it up so far and risk losing control. As the head of a top group, Cassian wouldn't make a dumb mistake like that. Plus, if it was his base, he'd either live openly near Magnus and Kelvin's villa or quietly keep tabs on things. There was no reason for him to make a big production moving in here with her. She realized she'd jumped to conclusions. She'd heard gossip, seen the name Cassiland Base, and assumed it was his. Thinking about it, Natalie commented, "Whoever is running this base is smart, using your name to boost their power." At first, they leveraged the Holland Group's name to draw people in. Once the base was stable and they had a loyal team, no one would even care who the real boss was. Cassian's voice turned cold. "Too bad they picked the wrong person to mess with."He hadn't planned to deal with them. But since he'd tracked Natalie here, he figured he might as well handle whoever was running around using his name to pull off schemes. That "Cassiland Base" sign on the gate truly irritated him. Plus, he'd already paid a hefty entrance fee. They used his name and took his supplies. So, of course, they had to pay the price. Regardless of Cassian's thoughts, Natalie felt secretly relieved. Her enemy was also his. He might not be her friend, but at least she didn't have another rival. But how had he gotten into the inner circle villas without revealing himself? She remembered her earlier guess. Maybe he had some special skill. She couldn't help but ask him about that.Cassian looked calm and dropped a bomb. "I have superpowers." Natalie froze. "What?" Is he serious? That sounds insane! Then again, she'd been reborn and had a storage space. Why couldn't someone else get lucky, too? Even that scumbag Braxton got a second chance at life. She stared at Cassian seriously. "What kind of superpower?" Flying? Invisibility? Fire-breathing? Mind reading? Or ... X-ray vision? She instinctively covered her chest at the thought. Cassian saw her seriousness and smirked. "The power of cash." Natalie was speechless. For a second, she thought he had some wild superpower. She'd been overthinking. But he wasn't wrong. This base only cared about strength to get into the inner circle villas. Strength could mean supplies, fighting skills, or special talents. Cassian had that in spades. As a top business boss, he was never short on resources. He noticed Natalie was done with questions and asked, "What about you? Who are you here to kill again?" She was at a loss for words. Is this guy reading my mind? How does he know I'm here to kill someone? And why "again"? I'm not a serial killer! But it was true that he always caught her with a knife whenever they met. Natalie cleared her throat, deciding not to reveal the truth. She just waved it off. "I'm not planning to kill anyone. Just got bored and wanted a change of scenery." Cassian raised his eyes, giving her a knowing look. This sneaky girl. She had fired off question after question, and he'd answered every single one. Now it was her turn, and she was dodging his questions instead, brushing them aside. He looked down, stopped watching her, and started gently running his hand over Lucky's fur. Whatever. Living in the same building meant he'd have plenty of chances to figure her out later. Natalie saw right through him. He clearly knew she was lying, but he didn't bother calling her out. Clearing her throat, she quickly switched topics. "Lucky! Stop hogging his lap. Get down!"Lucky was sprawled out, looking totally satisfied in Cassian's arms. Anyone else would think he was the dog's real owner. Natalie felt a pang of jealousy. This lovesick dog is choosing a handsome guy over me! When Lucky heard her owner's voice, she couldn't enjoy Cassian's grooming any longer. She immediately sat up in his lap.
