Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
Natalie glanced around warily, checking all the windows. Maybe there was a ninth person with a gun hiding somewhere. This place definitely wasn't something to take lightly. After her walk, she headed back home with Lucky. But before they got close, Lucky suddenly went nuts and lunged forward, pulling Natalie a few quick steps until the leash tightened. When she got a better look, she saw a pickup parked in front of her villa. Two movers were unloading stuff and carrying it inside. Huh? New neighbors so soon? Behind the pickup, there seemed to be a black SUV. Before she could get a good look, Lucky raced straight into the house, dragging her along, then bolted up the stairs. Worried Lucky might trip, Natalie loosened the leash. Lucky stopped on the second floor and ran straight to the small living room, leaping onto the couch and diving into someone's arms. She wriggled, whining with excitement. Damn, this feeling of losing control feels so familiar. Natalie froze, staring at the person on the couch in disbelief. Cassian?! What's he doing here? Cassian grunted as the chunky Lucky crashed into him. He held her tightly so she didn't bounce all over. Then, he looked up and greeted Natalie."We meet again ... Bonnie." Besides him, there were two cleaning ladies and the movers still hauling stuff in. Natalie's heart skipped a beat. She thought he might call her real name in front of everyone. But he said "Bonnie". She let out a sigh of relief, but she was even more confused. How did he know the fake name she just made up? Watching Lucky act like she'd found its real owner, Natalie couldn't help but twitch a smile. "Yeah, we meet again ... " She almost said his real name. But then, she remembered he was the boss behind the base. Instead of staying in a fancy villa, he was here in this shared house. He must be undercover or something. She glanced at the cleaning ladies nearby, unsure what to call him. Cassian smirked and helped her out. "I'm Kash, remember?" "Yes ... Kash." What a tacky name! She forced a smile. "Well, you sure live up to your name." The Holland Group CEO was so insanely rich that he had nothing but money. Cassian looked at her with interest and shot back, "You too. Your name suits you." Bonnie was a pretty name. Natalie's cheeks flushed. She'd just made it up on a whim when filling out the form. It was so embarrassing. Hearing him say it seriously? Even worse. After a few awkward pleasantries, silence fell. Natalie suddenly remembered their last awkward encounter and wanted to bolt. But Lucky was still sprawled comfortably in Cassian's arms, gazing up at him like he was the most handsome man alive. Natalie was speechless. Ugh, this hopelessly lovesick dog! Is Cassian that good-looking?! She shot him another annoyed look. ... Okay, fine, he's attractive. Cassian noticed her discomfort and turned to the cleaning ladies. "That's enough. You can go." The cleaning ladies exchanged glances, hesitating. "Boss, there's still a little left to do ... " They'd already received their payment. Was he going to make them return some of it? Cassian seemed to read their minds. "It's fine. I'll finish it. You'll still get full pay." The ladies smiled, thanked him, and left. Natalie sized him up. This pampered CEO actually does chores? Her deadbeat father had started as a farm boy, working the fields. But ever since he struck it rich, he never did a thing for himself—he wouldn't even drink coffee unless someone brought it to him on their knees. Cassian didn't act fancy at all. She remembered he'd even helped Roderick move stuff before. She thought a bit better of him. Not bad. He looked high and mighty, but he wasn't arrogant. By now, the movers were gone, leaving just the two of them.Cassian's stuff was everywhere, and he had no attempt to hide it. Natalie pretended not to notice and asked, "How did you know I go by Bonnie now?" He didn't want to admit he'd been following her, so he casually said, "The guy who brought me here said someone upstairs was named Bonnie." Natalie nodded. It must've been Rocky. Then, she asked, "Why use a fake name to get into your base? Going undercover or something?" She needed to figure out his purpose here. After all, she still had to take out one of his guys right under his nose. Knowing his real goal would help her plan.
