Harvest Moon: Bound to My Four Stepbrothers

Chapter 84 Unfair

Jayce’s P.O.V. I am still trying to wrap my head around the fact that our Princess is actually considered to be of a consenting age to marking and mating. I believe we should wait with the marking until she is able to feel the Mate-bond herself, but the mating part has Colt running circles in my head. She asked me to look in the digital library and find anything I can on underaged Mates, she already told me that it might be difficult as she had experienced trying to find anything on the trial-period. I start out with the simple search terms and soon I am getting frustrated as none of them turn up anything. Listening to Jason just talking about the subject and what the documents stated has me typing in a few more difficult search terms. At first I have as much luck as I had with the easy ones, but when I type in death penalty I get a long list of potential documents and files. I quickly start reading through the list and I find a few with rather strange titles. I write down each of them and decide to start typing in those titles. The first one I open is on forceful marking and I growl out loud as I read the first few lines, “Sorry, just reading something that makes me murderous.” As I say those words I type in the search term forceful, but it doesn’t show any listings and I curse under my breath. I make a note next to its title so I can hand it to Hunter and maybe she can figure out why this is. The second title is the one I was looking for and I start reading through it fast. It is the Law Hunter told us about and the reason why it was drawn up. It answers a few of the questions we have been asking and I mark it on my list of titles, before I type in the next title. This is on planning a forceful marking and I quickly write it behind the title, I continue down my list after that without any luck. I have three more titles to go and I am starting to lose hope that these will give us any answers. I type in the title, but I am not expecting much from it and when I open it I see that it is what I was looking for. This is a file on a twenty five year old Gamma that found his underaged Mate over seventy years ago, but his Alpha refused him the right to tell her about it and he actually kept them away from one another. The Gamma’s Mate was seventeen at the time and was of consenting age. The Alpha had send the Gamma to a neighboring Pack to help out with a rogue problem and when the Gamma had returned three weeks later his Mate had been marked and mated by the Alpha’s younger Brother. Unfortunately for the Alpha the Gamma had informed others and an Elder of his underaged Mate. When the Gamma had confronted the Alpha in front of the Pack he was attacked and killed by the Alpha’s younger Brother. The Gamma’s Mate has heard and seen everything and had contacted the Elder that had been informed by the Gamma. Three Elders had shown up the next morning and had demanded answers from the Alpha and his younger Brother. They had been reluctant to answer a question the Elders had and the female had been asked to join them. She told the Elders what she had overheard and who else was informed by the Gamma. The Elders spoke to all of them with the Alpha and his younger Brother present. When they finally asked the female why she believed him and had consented to the marking and mating, her answer had shocked all of them. She was told that the Gamma had demanded her as his chosen Mate, while he knew that the Alpha’s younger Brother was her Mate. He had chosen not to tell her because he wanted her to experience the Harvest Moon for herself and that he regretted it because of the Gamma. The Elders had broken the bond between them and the female and her parents had moved to another Pack, she had asked the Elders if it would be to soon to confirm if she was pregnant or not. When they asked her why she wanted to know she told them she didn’t want to carry or raise his Pup. Luckily she hadn’t been pregnant and she left the Pack within hours. I read through the parties involved and I recognize one of the names in the list, it is the name of an Elder who retired about a decade ago. His last name is the same as the female’s last name and I think I understand why he hid this Law. I check the last two titles on my list but none of them are connected to what we are looking for, but I know I will hand this list over to Hunter for further investigation. I ask Justin and Jax if they found anything useful and both of them are nodding their head.Hunter is staring out the window and I put my hand on her knee to get her attention, “What did the last document say?” I ask her and she tells us why the age of consent had been set at seventeen years old. I tell her that I found the same thing in the digital library. “You were right, thou. It took me a while to find anything related to this subject and I only found it because I tried different search terms. I have list here of subjects that are not found by using the most common terms and I have a feeling you will like to investigate this.” I say. I tell them how I found it and that there are two files connected to this case. I tell them the story of the Gamma and his Mate and I tell them how the information got lost, who made sure it got lost. Jax and Justin found that every case mentioning an underaged Mate were younger than seventy years and we all now understand how that happened. Most of the cases they found were from males that found their Mate and only a handful was from females that found their Mate, but they all had an underaged Mate. In the majority of the cases it turned out all right, but they found seven cases in which the underaged Mate had rejected them. They all gave the same answer to the question why they were rejected, they had overstepped a few boundaries and their Mate had grown to hate them. None of them had accepted the rejection and as far as Jax and Justin could make out they still hadn’t accept the rejection, nor had their Mates moved on with a chosen Mate. Hunter asks Jax and Justin to get their personal information, she wants to talk to all the couples at the same time. “I want to explain to them our situation and how the five of us are dealing with this, but I also want to know if there is a chance for them to be together. We can give them a trial-period at the Pack-house.” She says and I believe our little Mate is on to something here. It will give both parties the time to get to know each other again and it will make sure that there is no interference from the outside. By the time we have all the personal information gathered we are about thirty minutes from Three Mountain Pack. With Hunter being able to link anyone from a great distance we decide it is time she links her Aunt Sasha, we just hope she won’t scare her to death. Hunter is looking at me and I can see that she is a bit nervous, so I grab her hand to calm her down. Hunter’s P.O.V. When Uncle Luke said it might be a good idea if I link Aunt Sasha before we reached the Pack, I thought he had lost his mind and I think everyone thought so. After he explained that no one even knew if they were still there or still alive, I realized it was a precaution from his end. We agreed on thirty minutes before reaching Three Mountain Pack as the best time to try and link Aunt Sasha, if she wasn’t there we would have time to take it a bit slower and if she was there it would give her time to inform Uncle Todd. I nearly blew a gasket when Uncle Luke told me that no one had ever seen the Pups and the only way they knew about them was from an Elder that had informed them after each birth. They have four Pups, Peter who is eleven, Cara who is nine, Benjamin who is seven and June who is five. When Pops heard about his name sake he had said finally a family member named after me, which of course had made us laugh. Aunt Sasha and Uncle Todd don’t even know him, so how can they name their Pup after him. Pops had said “I don’t care, I will tell everyone that he is named after me.” making all of us laugh even louder. At least now I know where my Mates get their stubbornness from.
