Alpha Amarath
Jocelyn’s p.o.v. Erylis perks up at Joseph’s question, she would like to get to know Griffin and she won’t say No to the chance of running. I close my eyes as our heads touch and I get reminded of a conversation I had with Mom. I must have been sixteen or maybe seventeen and Mom was explaining to me and Indigo how it felt for her when she met Dad. Mom said that they had been some of the last fated couples, that everything changed within a short time and she wasn’t sure if it was for the better. Mom met Dad during the Days of the Full Moon and the bond between them was formed instantly. She told us that back then, it was normal to be marked and mated within hours of meeting and I think that Indigo and I had looked at her in disgust. Why would you jump into bed with someone you knew nothing about, but Mom explained that it was a different way of finding a Mate. Mom did believe that is was a better way of finding a Mate on some level, but she also believed that it was more difficult. After all, most of the older Pack-members found their Mate in a different way and they believed we were taking too long to find a Mate. Some couples were forced into a relationship by their parents, only to make sure there was an heir to a High-ranking position. Mom said that I had to listen to my other half, because we both needed to be able to live with our Mate and so far we haven’t found a male that can hold our interest. Well, that was until we met Joseph. “Erylis would like to run with Griffin, she needs the exercise. She feels as if she has been standing still, even though we ran for four days.” I tell Joseph. I feel his breath fanning against my skin and I decide to enjoy his embrace just a little longer. “Let’s get some dinner first, than we can arrange everything for Jenna and Faye.” Jospeh says, before he opens the door and gets out of the SUV with me still in his arms. After putting me down, he closes the door and grabs my hand to lead me around the SUV. He doesn’t let go of my hand and I don’t pull away from him, I want to know if this can lead to something more serious. I stop dead in my tracks at the sound of a snapping twig, Joseph turns his head towards the direction it came from and I hear a lot of growls coming from the other side of the SUVs. Our Warriors on high alert and the Youngsters move to the middle of the circle with the young Pups, while everyone else shifts into their Wolf form.Indigo and I stay in Human form, we can’t link anyone and this way we can at least communicate with the Wolves around us. Indigo stays with the Youngsters and Pups, while I walk towards the growling Wolves. I need to see what is happening and report back to Indigo. Hopefully we can keep everyone save, keep anyone from getting injured. The moment I reach the SUV, I am hit with the decomposing scent of Rogues and I have to restrain myself from gagging. “Six Rogues near the tree line.” I inform Indigo, after I have taken a look at how many Rogues there are. Rogues are a bit more difficult to deal with than other Shifters, Rogues are unpredictable in every way and they don’t give up until they are dead. Other Shifters will retreat, if they are about to be defeated and they will think again before attacking a second time. Rogues don’t have that common sense, they don’t understand self-preservation and that always gets them killed. The lack of self-preservation is also what makes them dangerous, because they don’t know when to quit and even if they are near death, they will still try to kill you. I am hoping that these six are the only Rogues around, but Alpha Inti isn’t taking any chances and keeps his Warriors in their positions around the SUVs. Erylis is restless and I allow her to guide me in whatever direction she wants, while I keep my eyes on the tree line. Two female Warriors are following me, probably ready to protect me and everyone else inside the circle. They are also my only way of communicating with the others and I slowly keep walking along the SUVs. “I can smell more Rogues.” Erylis says and I stop for a moment to sniff the air, catching that horrible, decomposing smell again. I concentrate on the tree line, I need to find where that smell is coming from and I need to do it quickly. “I can smell more Rogues, no idea where they are though.” I whisper and I know that Alpha Inti will be informed immediately. The Warriors near me shift their attention to the tree line, but we can’t seem to find the source of the smell. Erylis keeps guiding me along the SUVs and suddenly I see movement in the tree line, but it is too late to take action. “INCOMING.” Erylis roars at the exact same time that a Rogue runs out of the tree line and he jumps over the SUV, landing close to our Youngsters and Pups. Both females by my side run towards the Rogue, but he already has teeth in Joey’s shoulder and I hear him scream out in pain. Kardia is crouching down to her belly and quietly makes her way around, her eyes never leaving the Rogue. The Rogue keeps his eyes on the females and it is distracting him from spotting Kardia. I lock my eyes with Joey and with my body I try to tell him what to do. I know he can survive this, the only question will be the extent of his injuries. I can hear the sounds of fighting around me, but my mind is on Joey and getting him out of those jaws safely. Kardia lunges for the Rogue and clamps her jaws down on his hind leg, he howls out in pain. Joey rolls to the side and the two female Warriors jump over a few Pups, one of them biting down on his throat and the other goes for his side. The three of them pull in different directions and I hear the satisfying sound of breaking bones and tearing flesh.
