Theresa, the Doomsday Queen

Chapter 689 Too Little, Too Late

"Yes, Madam Kane," Clara's subordinate corrected reluctantly. Clara couldn't help but grin in triumph when she heard that title. She had finally become the second-in-command of the East Sea Camp. Fortunately for her, that b*tch Lily had the good sense to leave. Things were absolutely perfect. She was so happy she could just die. She assumed Lily would at least make a scene before leaving the camp. Yet, all she did was walk out of those doors, leaving her position as second-in-command ripe for the taking. Clara couldn't be more pleased. The only thing dampening her joy was how Harrance had shut himself in like some cryptid. He'd locked himself in his room ever since Lily left. In fact, he hadn't left his room all day. "By the way, we have a lot of backlogged papers that require your attention, Madam Kane," a subordinate said as they placed a stack of documents on her desk. Lily had been in charge of it prior to her departure. Clara frowned with displeasure. "Take them to Harrance! I can't do any of it!" "The… former second-in-command was responsible for all of these." Clara reluctantly took the documents when she heard that. Then, she flipped one open and realized she couldn't understand a single thing written on it. How was she supposed to handle this? "Madam Kane, everyone is waiting for your instructions. We have to resolve this as quickly as possible. Otherwise, we'll have to rearrange our schedule, and it'll be a mess!" Clara felt annoyed by their pestering, so she snapped, "Just take these to Harrance! He's responsible for all of it from now on." "The camp leader said that he isn't to be disturbed. None of us dares to bother him." "You're all useless!" Clara cursed, crawling off the bed. Then, she ordered her subordinates to carry all the files as she marched off to find Harrance herself. She stormed to her door in a matter of seconds."Harrance!" "Harrance!" she yelled repeatedly. She pounded on his door for a long time, but she got no response. Clara finally felt her patience snap. "Harrance, open this door this instant! I'm coming in if you don't!" The door creaked open just as she touched the doorknob. The man standing before her was as pale as death. His eyes were hollow and unseeing. Harrance looked like an empty shell. It was as if his soul had left with Lily that day. "Harrance, look at the state of you! Did you not sleep? You should rest if you didn't. You can deal with official matters tomorrow," Clara suggested cautiously. Harrance didn't seem to hear her. Instead, his eyes were staring blankly at the sky. "I've figured it out. I'm going to find Lily." He walked out of the office, his steps sure and hurried at the same time. Clara's eyes widened. "What are you doing?" "Lily is the woman I love. I'm going to find her, and I don't care how far I have to go or how long it takes for me to get her back." Harrance had been stunned when Lily had walked out just like that. When it finally hit him that she was truly out of his camp and out of his life, his heart felt… empty. The emptier he felt, the clearer everything became. He had always believed Lily would never leave him. He had taken her presence for granted, but that came crashing down when she'd left him behind. Only then did he remember how his heart had raced for her, how he'd been so deeply in love with her. Clara could never replace Lily in his heart. Only then did he finally understand what his true feelings were.Unfortunately, it took Lily leaving for him to finally regret everything. He would find Lily and beg for her forgiveness. He'd do anything and pay any price just to get her back. "Stop right there!" When she saw that he actually meant what he said, she immediately rushed forward and barred his way. "No, I won't allow it! I won't let you go!" "Move!" Harrance shoved her aside. Clara screamed as she fell to the ground, "Lily's a slut! She ran off with another man and humiliated you! Yet, you still want her back? Are you seriously going to debase yourself for the likes of her?" Smack! Harrance struck her so hard she fell sideways. "Lily never would've left if it weren't for you! You drove her away! You're the disgusting one!" Clara lay on the floor staring at him, utterly gobsmacked. "Harrance, do you not love me anymore? I'm the one who loves you most." "Shut up! You're disgusting! You drove me insane with how you clung to me back at school. I must've been out of my mind to fall for you. Now, I've finally wrenched myself out of your grip, and you make my skin crawl! "Have some self-respect and stop pestering me!" Then, he stormed out. Just then, a gut-wrenching scream pierced the air. "Ah! Harrance, m-my stomach… it hurts!" He assumed it was just another one of her tricks, so he kept walking. However, the agony in her screams only grew in intensity. "Harrance… I- I think I'm dying… Ah!"
