Theresa, the Doomsday Queen
Flora had just sent out that text when someone slammed against the door. "Mom, I'm talking to Louisa," Flora blurted, startled. Bang! Bang! Bang! However, the pounding only grew more violent. It was as if the person on the other side of the door was some kind of mindless beast hurling itself against the wooden door. Suddenly, she heard muffled growling sounds through the commotion. A shiver immediately ran down her spine. That sounded… that sounded like a zombie. But that's impossible! I'm at home! We're in camp right now! Unfortunately, she had no more time to panic when the zombie started ramming against her door once more. Meanwhile, Arwen and Orren were arguing at the training field. "Do you know how crazy you sound right now? How can you ask Solan to do something like that?" Orren froze mid-punch, staring at his cousin Arwen in disbelief when her words registered in his head. "Don't change the subject. Will you do it?" Arwen demanded darkly. "No," Orren said bluntly as he resumed his training. He'd thrown himself into training ever since Theresa's departure. He'd made up his mind to become a real man, and real men didn't wait for handouts. When he finally made something of himself, he would go to the legendary Blazing Sun Alliance. He didn't know how long it'd take him. Maybe he only had to train for a year. Perhaps even three. Still, he was going to go there no matter how long it took. He wanted to stand before that woman again and face her with confidence. He wanted to tell her that he'd changed. He wanted to show her that he'd made something of himself and that he was no longer a useless lout. That thought made him even more motivated to train. Arwen was not done. "How could you not help me after everything I've done for you?" "Seriously? You're seriously asking me to help you by throwing a woman at Solan? Are you really asking me to convince Solan to cheat on you? "Hell, you're asking me to put up a neon sign that says, 'Here's a cuck!' right above your head! What were you thinking?" "I can't have children, Orren!" Arwen screamed, her voice hoarse. After a while, she blubbered, "Can't you put yourself in my shoes for once? Solan is such a good man. How can I let his bloodline die with him?" Orren threw his hands in the air. "And this is what you came up with? Christ, Arwen! Solan loves you. How could he ever accept another woman in his bed?" "That's exactly why I can't be selfish. I've already discussed this with Flora. She's our cousin, someone we know. I'll be able to accept it if she's the surrogate." "Arwen, you really are insane," he remarked bluntly. Then, he turned his attention back to his training. There was no arguing with Arwen when she was being as stubborn as a mule right now. Arwen's eyes turned red rimmed. Sure enough, frustrated tears soon streamed down her cheeks. "Orren sighed wearily before saying, "Arwen, Solan is already busy enough. No one expects you to be as capable as Ms. Hall. Still, can you please stop dragging people down with your problems?" "How am I dragging any of you down with me? Do you think I'm happy with this arrangement? I love him! I'd give up anything for him!" "Then, you can start by not calling your ridiculous actions love! What you're doing isn't' love. It's hurting everyone else. You hurt me in the past for the sake of your love. Now, you're hurting Solan with it. "Neither of us want something so… so obsessive! Sure, you might be miserable, but you sure as hell are doing your d*mn best to make everyone else as miserable as you! How is that supposed to love?" His words were like a slap to her face. Arwen stood there like a deer in headlights. She wouldn't have cared if anyone else were the one screaming at her. Yet, this was coming from Orren, her baby brother! It felt like she'd been run through by a knife. She loved them with all she had. Why did they feel this way? Orren inhaled sharply before saying quietly, "Arwen, we know you love us. We have never doubted that, but you need to have some confidence in yourself. Solan loves you, alright? He loves you. "So, instead of getting all worked up over not being able to give him a son, why don't you just stay by his side? That's all he ever wanted—for you to stay by his side through thick and thin." "Really?" she whispered, her voice heavy with insecurity. Arwen's inability to have children had changed her, turning her into a complete mockery of her former self. Her fears and insecurities had taken root, twisting her into extremes. As a result, she was still terrified that Solan would leave her behind even after they'd reconciled. Eventually, her fear grew, and she fixated on that one thing she couldn't do for him— giving him a child. "Yes, really. Also, don't you think for one second that I have no idea what's keeping you up at night. So, you'd better listen to me. Solan would never leave you, okay? He'd stick by your side even if you turned into a vegetable." Then, Orren grabbed her arm and started dragging her toward Solan's office. "It's no secret in camp that Solan is head over heels for you. I swear on my chance to go to the Blazing Sun Alliance that he doesn't care whether you can bear him children. If you don't believe me, we can ask him right now." Arwen didn't struggle. However, she couldn't help but ask meekly, "Orren, are you sure?" "Arwen, believe in yourself." It took a while, but the fear lurking in her chest seemed to lighten a tad for the first time in a long time. She tilted her head to look at Orren and finally saw how much he'd grown. "It's odd. It feels like I haven't seen you in a long time, but we've always been together. What happened? Actually, no. Someone said something to you, didn't they? Who was it?"
