Theresa, the Doomsday Queen

Chapter 686 The Calm Before the Storm

They had to watch their loved ones—parents, spouses, children, best friends, classmates, coworkers—transform into flesh-eating monsters right before their very eyes. Everyone who had made it thus far had experienced that loss. It had been four years since the beginning of the end. Four years of surviving in this blood-soaked world filled with walking corpses wearing their loved ones' faces. Every single one of them here had made sacrifices just to create a makeshift haven for humans to survive. They had shed blood, sweat, and tears to get to where they were today. It was one thing if the zombie apocalypse were a natural disaster. However, it was a completely different can of worms if everything they had been suffering was because of human greed. The Starborn Order deserved to die. They deserved to be eradicated from the face of the Earth. "From this moment on, the Starborn Order is our enemy," Lucas spat, his iron-clad control over his emotions shattering in the face of such news. "Yes!" "That's right!" "They deserve to die!" All the base leaders roared in unison. Theresa felt her heart steady with their staunch support. Thank God none of them sympathized with the Starborn Order's ideology. They were human. They should never turn their backs on mankind. They would never side with zombies. "Theresa, what should we do next?" Lucas inquired. "I had Bennie do a global broadcast. We have to pool our numbers together. The more, the better. We'll provide supplies for free and bring every human camp into this alliance." "Agreed!""Yes!" "We must stand united!" "All humans are one of us!" "The Flowers Camp is willing to donate all extra points and supplies!" "It's the same for our camp!" "Ms. Hall, we'll contribute to your cause too! We have funds!" "We'll support the relief effort unconditionally!" Every camp leader declared one after another. Theresa finally felt the knot in her chest loosen upon seeing their eager support. That was because this was all proof that she wasn't fighting alone. They were all her comrades in her fight for humanity. There would be a war between humans and zombies. She was just about to open the warehouses and start distributing supplies when her Territorial Link buzzed. The radar warned her, "Enemy aircraft incoming." Alarms started blaring in warning within seconds. "Theresa, we're under attack!" Lucas shouted. Theresa and the others rushed to the rooftop. That was when they saw high-speed micro-fighter jets flying straight at them. The alliance's anti-air systems were immediately triggered, causing all of the interceptors on the electrical grid to activate as they fired at the jets. They saw puffs of green blooming across the sky like sickly fireworks with every successful shot. Soon, all invading aircraft were shot down. Not a single one breached their airspace. However, Theresa didn't feel relieved. Her eyes were fixed on the green mist. The toxic shade settled over the invisible protective barrier above the Blazing Sun Alliance. The barrier managed to block it. Unfortunately, it also began dissolving upon contact. A terrible premonition surged in her chest. Could that be… Just then, Bennie ran to her, his eyes wild with panic. "Theresa, it's bad!" … Meanwhile, several fleets of high-speed micro-fighters soared overhead over Solen Camp. "You've got to be kidding me. Did you just say that your cousin wants you to marry Mr. Rowen? Is she… alright in the head?" Louisa's voice came through the radio. Flora looked utterly miserable inside the room she'd huddled in. Yes, Arwen had definitely lost a few of her screws. She'd been pestering her nonstop, trying to force her to marry Solan because she couldn't have children. She only wanted Flora to marry him so she could "give him an heir" in her place. Flora was so flabbergasted and humiliated when she heard Arwen. Right now, she couldn't help but regret not accepting the offer when she had the chance. She really should've gone to the Blazing Sun Alliance with her parents. Her regret only grew when she heard Louisa regaling her tales of how amazing the Blazing Sun Alliance was. After a while, Flora mustered the last bits of her courage and sent Louisa a text, 'Louisa, is Ms. Hall still accepting people? Can I bring my parents along if I join you guys?'
