Grief, Betrayals, and a Core of Blaze
"Ruby, you seem different." "Yes, well, my eldest son nearly died, and my youngest daughter was tricked and kept away from home for over twenty years. If I still didn’t change, I would be a failure as a mother." A streak of maternal fortitude shone in Ruby’s eyes. Waylon’s eyes grew warm. "Thank you, Ruby. Thank you for being willing to pull yourself together for me and for the children." For years, Ruby had suffered a mental breakdown after the death of Natalie’s twin brother. Although Waylon and Flynn had always cared for her without complaint, it had been exhausting. Coming home after a day of business intrigues and facing Ruby’s depressive episodes, while being careful not to provoke her, had truly been difficult. Waylon and Flynn had honestly done admirably well. Ruby also knew she had caused her husband and son immense stress over the years. She patted Waylon’s hand and said, "I will be fine from now on. Don’t worry. You and the children focus on doing what you love, and I will become your strongest foundation." Waylon emotionally embraced Ruby and kissed her deeply. While the older couple was locked in their tender moment, Jensen was darting around like a rat trying to escape a trap. He no longer dared to stay in the apartment he had rented with Loretta. Baron was the legitimate heir of the Gunn family and the Chairman of Grant International Holdings; finding him in Ocean City would be effortless. But Jensen was not inexperienced. Having reigned as the King of Ocean City for so many years, he was familiar with some well-hidden locations. Jensen brought the unconscious Natalie to a casino. The casino's basement was vast, yet few people knew about it. When Jensen brought Natalie down to the basement, Loretta was already there. "Are you alright?" Loretta looked at Jensen with concern. She checked his body up and down, only breathing a sigh of relief once she confirmed he was unharmed. All of Jensen’s focus was currently on Natalie. He looked at the unconscious Natalie with a glazed, possessive gaze. Seeing him like this, Loretta felt utterly exasperated. "She’s just a woman. Why are you so obsessed with her? There are plenty of beautiful, obedient women in this world. Why must you—" "Beautiful, obedient women wouldn't throw their lives away for me. Mom, in this lifetime, no one will ever willingly donate their own ribs to save me again. No one in this world will ever love me with the kind of intense devotion that Natalie does." Jensen’s words left Loretta speechless. She had been a wealthy young lady since childhood and had seen too much human indifference. Frankly, everything Natalie did for Jensen seemed foolish in her eyes, but now she had to admit Jensen was right. A woman this foolishly devoted was practically extinct in today's society. She quickly handed the vial of medicine to Jensen. "This is the amnesia drug I bought with all my money. Just make her drink it, and she will forget everyone, then she can live happily with you."Jensen looked at the liquid Loretta offered and was somewhat hesitant. "Mom, does this drug have any side effects?" Loretta shook her head. "I don’t know. The seller said there are no side effects, but all medicine is toxic to some degree, and for an amnesia drug, there might be a few side effects. But it doesn't matter. She has already turned her back on you. If you don't give her this drug, she might wake up and start screaming, maybe even verbally abuse you. Do you want to see that?" Jensen did not want to see the scenario Loretta described, but he still had a shred of conscience. This amnesia drug was an unregulated product. What if it damaged Natalie's brain? She was so intelligent and had such a talent for design. If she were turned into an idiot, would he truly be happy? Jensen was conflicted. Seeing his indecisiveness, Loretta snatched the amnesia drug from his hand, stepped forward, and was about to pour it into Natalie’s mouth. Jensen immediately intervened. "Mom, wait! Let me think!" "Think what? By the time you’ve thought it through, Natalie will be awake. Will you be able to keep her from screaming? Even though this is a casino, if Baron and the Stone family decide to look, it's only a matter of time before they find this place. Do you want to hand her over? Even if this amnesia drug has side effects, even if Natalie turns into an idiot, at least she will stay by your side and become your woman alone. Isn’t that what you want? Or will you despise her for being an idiot?" "I won’t! I will never despise Natalie, no matter what she becomes!" Jensen quickly denied it. Loretta seized the opportunity to push him away and forcibly poured the amnesia drug directly into Natalie’s mouth.
