Grief, Betrayals, and a Core of Blaze
Ruby's chest heaved violently with rage. If that woman were standing in front of her, she would tear her to shreds. Waylon, however, frowned deeply and cut in. "Do you have a picture of this Candice?" "No. I only know about this because my mother told me. Apparently, my father told her about it once when he was drunk. She remembered it and has resented his ridiculous history with Candice all these years, so she was always talking about it. As for the baby switch, my mother found out about it by accident. At the time, she wanted to use that evidence to make my dad get rid of Candice. But then Candice suddenly disappeared, which my mother has resented ever since. She always felt my dad hid Candice away. They've been fighting about Candice for years, which is how I know." Yulia’s words stunned everyone. Natalie's brow furrowed. She never imagined that she had been stolen and swapped just after birth for such a reason. This Candice was truly a despicable person. Waylon, however, seemed to recall something. He stood up abruptly and went into his study. This action puzzled everyone. "What's wrong with Dad?" Natalie could see Waylon's expression was grim, and she couldn't help but ask. The others were just as surprised, all looking to Ruby. Ruby, equally confused, was about to get up and follow him when Waylon returned, carrying a photo album. "What are you doing?" Ruby voiced the question on everyone's mind. Waylon placed the album on the coffee table. "These are photos I had taken during the company's annual parties over the last two decades, which I've kept. This Candice you're talking about... I think I remember her. I recall we had an employee over twenty years ago named... Tian Tian." Everyone was floored. Before she got involved with Hayes, Candice was an employee at Stone Group? Natalie was also taken aback. "Dad, why do you remember her so clearly?" She did not rush to the album; she asked the question first. Her words made everyone turn back to Waylon. "Yes, Stone Group has many employees. Why would you remember her so clearly?" Ruby also sensed something was amiss. Waylon coughed, clearly uncomfortable. He even shot Natalie an annoyed glance. Natalie immediately looked embarrassed. So, there really was a story here. Seeing Waylon's reaction, Ruby knew her suspicion was correct. She shot up, grabbed Waylon's ear, and twisted it. "Aha! So while I'm at home being a good wife and mother, you're out fooling around with other women, is that it? This Candice was Hayes' mistress, right? What, was she trying to seduce you before that?" Ruby's words were clearly close to the truth. Waylon, having his ear twisted in front of everyone, flushed bright red. "Ouch! Honey, that hurts! Can you give me a little face? Candice did try to seduce me, but I didn't pay her any attention! She quit shortly after that. I had no idea what she did afterward. How was I supposed to know she was so vicious?" Waylon felt utterly wronged. He genuinely had no interest in any woman besides Ruby, but given his status, women were constantly throwing themselves at him. It was hard work fending them off. Ruby was absolutely furious. The thought that her daughter had been stolen all because of some "romantic entanglement" Waylon had attracted made her want to murder him.Flynn, seeing the pure rage in his mother's eyes, quickly stepped in to separate them. "Mom, you can't entirely blame Dad for this. I can testify that he has never done anything to wrong you all these years. But when these opportunistic women throw themselves at him, it's not like Dad can just lock himself in the house, right?" His words did little to calm Ruby, who was still shaking with anger. Her eyes were red, and her voice was hoarse. "I imagined so many possible reasons, but never this. What kind of grudge is this? She failed to seduce my husband, so she takes revenge on me? Is there any justice in the world?" Natalie also felt terrible. Seeing the state of the family, Jonas produced a file. "Your guesses are correct, but Candice didn't target you because she failed to seduce Mr. Stone." "What do you mean? There's another reason?"
