Grief, Betrayals, and a Core of Blaze
"Okay." To her, Yulia and this other man did not matter, so long as they were not a threat to Baron. From the looks of it, Baron was clearly acquainted with both this man and Yulia. Although their way of communicating was far from normal, Natalie did not sense any hostility from Baron. Hearing Natalie agree, Baron lowered the hand that was covering her eyes. Natalie watched as the man walked in, immediately took off his jacket, and draped it over Yulia's shoulders. He then pulled a tissue from the nearby box and gently wiped her tears, saying with a hint of helplessness, "You're a grown woman, and you still let Baron bully you to tears. If he wouldn't let you eat, why didn't you just grab it?" "I can't win against him!" Yulia said, aggrieved, her eyes fixed on Jonas, terrified he might suddenly disappear. "Jonas, you have to help me, I can't beat him! Woo woo! You bastard! You're alive, so why didn't you come find me? Do you have any idea how much I missed you? Bastard! Bastard!" The moment Yulia realized the Jonas in front of her was real, her emotions erupted. She pounded on Jonas's chest like a madwoman. When he tried to speak, she lunged forward and bit down hard on his neck. "Hiss—" Jonas was in agony, but he let her vent. Natalie watched in astonishment, but Baron pulled her out of the studio. "Them...?" "A reunion between a long-lost husband and wife. Don't mind them. Let's go home."Baron swept Natalie up into his arms and said over his shoulder to Jonas, "Once you've calmed her down, come to my villa. We need to know the truth about my wife being switched at birth twenty-odd years ago. And Jonas, control your wife. Don't let her harass my wifey again." With that, Baron carried Natalie to the car. Natalie was still curious, but Baron buckled her into the seat. "Wifey, you don't also think Jonas is better looking than me, do you?" Baron looked at Natalie, pouting with pretend grievance. Natalie was utterly speechless. She did not even know Jonas. And he had been backlit; she'd only caught a glimpse of what he looked like and hadn't gotten a good look at all. Natalie's exasperated look only made Baron lean into his act. "Wifey, am I not better looking than that Jonas?" "Baron, be normal." Natalie rolled her eyes. She realized that since getting together with Baron, the frequency of her eye-rolling had increased dramatically. Baron, however, pretended not to hear her, continuing his pitiful act. "I know, I don't have a pretty-boy face like Jonas, and I haven't been by your side as long as Jensen, but I only have eyes for you, wifey. You can't abandon me." Natalie could not help but laugh. She cupped Baron's face and planted a loud kiss on him. "Stop it. My heart and my eyes only have you. No one else. Jensen is in the past, and that Jonas guy isn't my type. My present and future are only you.""Really?" Baron's eyes lit up instantly, like a giddy fool who had just been given the world. Natalie's heart warmed. This man, who put her first with all his heart, how could she not love him? "Really. More real than pearls. But... does Yulia really know the truth about me being switched at birth all those years ago?" Hearing Natalie ask about this, Baron's expression turned serious. "If she said so, it proves the incident is related to the Gunn family. Just let me find out who it was. I won't let them off." Natalie, however, frowned slightly. The Stone and Gunn families had never had any dealings, especially not over twenty years ago. How could the Gunn family be involved? Natalie truly did not want any connection to the Gunn family, but now that it had come to this, she could only go back with Baron and inform Waylon and the others. Baron drove, and the two quickly returned to the villa. The children were already playing together. Holt was still quiet, but he was able to play with Susie and Sean, though he still preferred drawing most of the time. The gifts Natalie had bought for the children had been delivered. The kids were happily unwrapping them when they saw Natalie and Baron return. They darted toward them like little birds. "Mommy, I love you! These clothes, these toys, I love them!" Susie was, as always, the center of attention. Sean did not say anything, but he was clearly very happy.Ruby held the silk scarf Natalie had bought for her, her eyes moist. "I love it too." Natalie felt a bit embarrassed by all the praise. Only then did Baron realize Natalie had bought gifts for everyone.
