Grief, Betrayals, and a Core of Blaze
If Natalie couldn't remember, Baron would repeatedly torment her sensitive spots until she couldn't take it and forced herself to memorize the moves. She used to think Baron was just using it as an excuse to take advantage of her, but now she realized how practical it was. As Natalie thought about it, she wanted to see Baron even more. "Where are you?" Natalie took a photo of the Grant International Holdings entrance, sent it to Baron, and followed it with a text. Baron was bored, listening to Layne complain about how busy he had been these past few days. Layne had also placed a stack of company reports and contracts in front of him for review. Layne sorted through them, griping, "Baron, you're the chairman of the company, for crying out loud. Could you please show some professionalism? Look at this! Is this a workload one person can finish? Can you please be human? Either you come back and run things yourself, or you get me two more vice presidents. Otherwise, whoever wants this damn job can have it!" Baron was getting a headache. Compared to his wife, this was just so boring. Baron was trying to think of an excuse to shut Layne up when his phone chimed. Layne’s babbling mouth stopped. He and Baron instinctively looked at the phone on the desk. "I’m warning you, even if your wife is texting, you can’t leave! You must finish reviewing these contracts today." "You're full of shit." Baron’s long arm shot out and snatched the phone. He glanced at it, then suddenly yelled, "Holy shit!" and shot up from his chair."What are you doing? Coming back from the dead?" Layne was startled, thinking something terrible had happened. But then he saw Baron grinning from ear to ear. "My wife texted me! Hahaha, she’s right downstairs! I’m going to get my wife!" Baron took off running. Layne lunged and grabbed for him. "No! I’ll have an assistant go down and get her. You finish reviewing these contracts!" Baron sensed Layne's attack, ducked, and executed a perfect slide tackle right out the door. His voice drifted back. "I’ll hire two more VPs for you tomorrow!" "Baron!" Layne grabbed nothing but air, his voice cracking with frustration. The secretaries in the outer office were already used to this phenomenon. They all ducked their heads and looked busy, terrified of being targeted by the furious Layne. Baron, however, was on cloud nine. He found everyone he passed particularly agreeable. As he ran past the secretarial pool, he shouted joyfully, "Everyone in the secretarial department gets triple pay today!" The secretaries immediately erupted in cheers. Layne just laughed in exasperation. "Fine! Fine! Triple pay, is it? Okay! The boss gave the order, so I’ll execute it. But everyone is working overtime until midnight!" At Layne’s announcement, the secretaries groaned again."Have a heart." "Hah! How about you go call the boss back?" Layne finished speaking and slammed his office door. The secretaries could only resign themselves to their fate and get back to work. Why was it that when the executives fought, the secretaries were the ones who suffered? Baron couldn't care less about the chaos he’d caused. He ran straight into the private elevator, wishing he could just fly downstairs. His wife rarely came to the company. Could something have happened? As the elevator descended, Baron’s mind raced. His earlier joy was dampened considerably by this sudden, anxious thought. "Honey!" Baron rushed out and saw Natalie standing in the sunlight. She was wearing a custom-fitted, white business suit that accentuated her perfect figure, making her even more alluring. Her tranquil expression, paired with her striking features, made his heart flutter. Natalie heard Baron’s voice and turned sharply. Her long, brown, wavy hair swung in an arc, brushing across Baron’s heart like a feather, making it tingle. He admitted to himself that he was all about looks. Natalie was simply too beautiful at this moment. Seeing Baron’s stunned expression, Natalie felt a sweet warmth inside, and her lovely cherry-red lips curved into a slight smile. "Baron, I missed you."Natalie parted her lips, and the words she spoke were like the music of heaven to Baron. "What did you say?" "I said, honey, I missed you." That one word, "honey," nearly melted Baron's bones. He crossed the distance in a few quick strides and pulled Natalie fiercely into his arms. "Did something happen? Or..." Baron hadn't even finished his sentence before Natalie pushed him away. Then, in his moment of stunned confusion, she grabbed his tie with one hand and yanked him back toward her.
