He Cheated. I Rose.
Arthur was surprised by Charles' calm reaction. He'd expected anger, but there was none. Though confused, Arthur understood his message clearly. He knew what needed to be done next. Jennifer had been the one behind everything—setting up Chloe, stirring up public anger, and causing all this damage. It all traced back to her. Now he needed to have a serious conversation with Jennifer. "I understand, Grandpa. I'll take care of it. I'm sorry." Arthur stood, bowed deeply, then turned to leave. At the hospital room door, he asked the nurse to watch over Charles carefully before walking away. When Arthur's footsteps faded, Charles slowly opened his eyes. "Arthur, you didn't just lose someone important. You threw away the entire future of the Myers family. You brought this on yourself."***** Chloe walked out of the hospital's main entrance and immediately spotted a familiar black car. The car moved toward her as soon as it saw her. It stopped right in front of her. The window rolled down, revealing the man in the back seat. Eugene sat there with his usual elegance. He looked up at her, their eyes meeting. "Everything settled?" Chloe quirked an eyebrow, her tone crisp. "All done." "Get in." "Mr. Rosewood, I told you earlier there was no need to wait," Chloe said with a slight smile. "Lewis Group is probably still bickering over announcing you as their executive director right now. My car's fast. I can give you a ride on my way." Eugene's lips curved upward. He gestured to the empty seat beside him. "Get in." Chloe looked at his faint smile, then got in and sat beside him. Once she was seated, Eugene handed her a small, nicely wrapped box of pastries. Chloe looked down, surprised. It was clearly Robert's favorite kind. She glanced at Eugene. "I passed a shop that sold these, so I bought some. I saw you get them once before. Thought you might like them or Robert would," Eugene said casually while adjusting the car's temperature. Chloe chuckled at that. She had indeed bought those pastries once since meeting Eugene—just that one time. She never expected he'd notice such a small thing. Back then, they were practically strangers.Had Eugene been watching her that closely from the beginning? Chloe wasn't angry. Actually, she smiled. Eugene had ulterior motives from the start. Neither of them was a perfect person. That's what made it interesting. At least she was seeing a different side of him. With her, he was direct. The car stopped smoothly in front of Lewis Group. Bruce, sitting in front, finally turned and spoke. "Mr. Rosewood, Ms. Lewis, LOVE and LOVELESS just announced their first collab series. The response has been fantastic. Every branch worldwide has increased their orders. The first batch is already sold out." "Sold out?" Chloe smiled and glanced at Eugene. "Then we've made up for the losses from that smear campaign." "Obviously," Eugene replied with a faint smile. Chloe didn't say more. She simply smiled and got out of the car. She looked up at the Lewis Group building standing tall before her. From this moment on, she was officially taking charge. No one would interfere with her plans here. "Chlo." Hearing Eugene's voice, Chloe paused. She looked back at the man sitting straight in the car. He'd called her "Chlo"—a warm, familiar name, not his usual formal tone. Chloe clicked her tongue softly. She didn't mind the nickname. "I'll book a restaurant. After you finish cleaning up here, let's have dinner. I'll pick up Robert later," Eugene said with a small smile. "With all this good news, we should celebrate, right?" Chloe met his eyes for a moment, then nodded. "Alright. Text me the place, and I'll have Robert meet you there." "Mm." Chloe smiled, closed the door, and walked straight into the Lewis Group building. Up in the top-floor conference room at Lewis Group, the atmosphere felt... tense. All the executives and board members were present. No one spoke after sitting down. Everyone waited for Scott to begin, but he just sat silently, making the silence feel strange. Monique had arrived too. She sat beside Scott and looked across at the man opposite them. Ernesto glanced at Monique, then scanned the others coldly. So what were they waiting for? "Mr. Lewis, sure, public opinion has turned around. But Chloe didn't actually do anything. It was Arthur from Myers Group who came forward and admitted they were married." Ernesto raised his voice. "The whole country knows about Chloe and Arthur's marriage now. She should be here for this board meeting. But she's still not here. What does that tell us?"
