He Cheated. I Rose.
Arthur was the only one who could inherit the Myers family fortune. Such a huge business empire needed someone to carry it on. If the child was Chloe's, Charles was willing to accept it. He came up with a scheme. Without telling Chloe, he secretly found a man with good genes, planning to have him pretend to be Arthur and sleep with Chloe. He hoped she would get pregnant. His logic was simple: since the mother would be Chloe, any child would be the future heir in his eyes. But things didn't go as planned. The man he picked didn't succeed. Arthur knew nothing about this. Just when Charles thought his plan had failed, he found it might have worked after all. Later, Chloe and Arthur got married. A marriage without love was never going to be happy. Charles hoped time would bring them closer.Nobody expected things to turn out this way. He never wanted Chloe and Arthur to separate. Now that it was final, there was no fixing it. He knew exactly what kind of person Chloe was. Once she walked away from Arthur, she was gone for good. "Chloe, does Arthur know about this?" Charles asked carefully, still clinging to a slim hope. "Whether he knows or not doesn't matter." Chloe kept her answer short. "Don't worry. I won't tell anyone he can't have children." "Thank you." Charles hung his head in shame. "I need you to promise me one thing." Chloe's voice was quiet but firm. This wasn't a request—it was a decision. "Arthur thinks Jennifer is his true love. That's his choice. Let him believe it. Some things are better left unsaid."Charles understood. He didn't argue, just nodded slightly. "I need to go now. Arthur is coming to see you." Chloe checked her phone, spoke calmly, and stood to leave. She had just opened the door when Charles called out urgently. "Chloe, I know I have at most a year left—if I'm lucky. I don't know how long I can hold on. I just hope you'll still talk to me sometimes while I'm here. Don't walk out and never speak to me again, okay?" His voice trembled. "I truly see you as my own granddaughter. No matter who Robert's father is, I've already accepted him as my grandson. Can you let me visit him sometimes?" His voice grew hoarse. By the end, he sounded completely drained. A harsh cough racked his body right after he finished speaking. "I promise." Seeing his condition, Chloe answered softly, then opened the door and left. The coughing continued. Moments later, the door opened again and Arthur rushed in. Seeing his state, he hurried to the bedside, his face full of concern. "Grandpa, are you okay? "Doctor! Somebody get the doctor!" Arthur shouted in panic. Charles gripped his hand tightly. "I'm fine. Not dead yet. Stop yelling." Arthur remained tense. Hearing Charles' words, he stared at him, still worried. "Grandpa!" "You foolish boy, you... you..." Charles pointed a trembling finger at Arthur, too upset to form complete sentences. Seeing this, Arthur assumed he had watched the press conference and knew everything. Of course he would be angry. "Grandpa, I'm sorry. I let you down." Arthur bowed deeply. "I lost the most important person in my life."His eyes were moist, as if he might cry. Charles looked at him and heaved a long, heavy sigh. "I'm not going to say anything more. The doctor told me not to get agitated. I can't die yet. If I died now, certain people would be very pleased." Arthur looked up, surprised by his words. "Grandpa, I know I was wrong. I want to—" "I don't want to hear anything right now. I need rest and quiet. I just want to go home soon. If I don't, the Myers family will collapse." He closed his eyes and spoke coldly. "Arthur, you made your choice. Since you chose divorce, don't bother Chloe again. Letting your so-called 'true love' ruin her life—that's your problem. Clean up your own mess before you come asking for my forgiveness. "Get out. I don't want to see you right now." Arthur was stunned. He had worried that when Charles learned about the divorce, he would be furious and try everything to help Arthur win Chloe back.
