He Cheated. I Rose.
This was the very guy who had been there when they signed the papers to cut off all ties—he was a lawyer. But did the legal industry even have someone like him? "Mr. Lewis, everything's in order. Take a look," Zachary said, spreading multiple copies of documents across the conference table. There it all was—the settlement agreement, lawsuit withdrawal notice, and stock transfer papers. Everything was ready. Scott froze when he saw them. He suddenly felt like he'd walked right into a planned trap. All this trouble, just to get Carolyn out of jail. Maybe he should've just let her stay locked up for a few years. At least then he'd have some peace. "Fine," Scott said. His hands trembled as he called his secretary. He told him to bring the lawyer up. He'd brought both of them as backup, waiting at the coffee shop across the street. He never thought "backup" would mean this. Thirty percent of Lewis Group stock—transferred to Chloe's name without a cent changing hands. Scott stared at the document, bit down hard, and signed without another word. The transfer was effective immediately. Just like that, Chloe became the largest shareholder of Lewis Group. With lawyers from both parties as witnesses, the deal was done. Zachary gathered the papers with a smile, then politely handed Scott one copy. "Mr. Lewis, looks like we're colleagues now." Scott's face twisted. Colleagues? What a joke. Chloe now held thirty percent—the biggest stake. She actually had a say in Lewis Group now. Scott could already see it—her walking into company meetings, getting involved in management decisions. If that happened, what would that make him as chairman? Monique and Carolyn had already taken ten percent from him. And that was only after Monique had cried and begged for weeks. If he'd known then what he knew now, he'd never have given it away. He'd still have that ten percent. If Monique found out Chloe got these shares, she'd lose her mind all over again. The thought made him furious. He'd had it with talking. "Alright. I showed my goodwill. I gave you what you wanted. Now where's yours?" Scott looked at Chloe, his face detached and empty. "Of course. Goodwill works both ways." Chloe smiled lightly and glanced at Zachary. Zachary gave a polite nod to Scott, then made the call right in front of him. "We're dropping the charges. Inform the police to release her." He hung up and turned back to Scott with the same easy smile. "Mr. Lewis, they're processing her release now. If you're picking her up, you might want to hurry. Once the press gets wind of this, the place will be swarmed." Scott's expression tightened. He shot Chloe one last sharp look, snatched his copy of the agreement off the table, stood up, and stormed out. His secretary and lawyer scrambled after him. Watching Scott leave, Zachary shrugged. "Quite the temper. Midlife crisis? The way he favors someone like Carolyn... that family's headed for a fall." He raised an eyebrow at Chloe. "This is just the beginning of their downfall. When you're ready to finish them, let me know. I'll have the paperwork ready." Chloe didn't respond. Her eyes stayed on the stock transfer agreement lying on the table. That thirty percent—it was only what her mother should have had. If Scott could actually run Lewis Group properly and make it succeed, she wouldn't have stepped in. But Monique's influence had grown too strong, and Scott was completely blinded by that mother-daughter pair.So what if he was her father? Lewis Group wasn't just some toy for anyone to play with. If Scott couldn't protect what was hers, she'd take it all back—publicly and for good. ***** After Scott slammed the conference room door, he rushed off with his secretary and lawyer. Monique had been waiting nervously on a nearby sofa, clutching her phone. She was terrified that any delay might get Carolyn sentenced and locked up for good. Seeing Scott come out, she jumped up and called out to him, but he ignored her. She wanted to yell after him, but there were company people everywhere—Chloe's people. If she acted out or sounded rude, they'd be gossiping behind her back. She swallowed her anger, kept her posture poised, and left as gracefully as she could. Once she stepped out of the building, she quickened her pace and caught up. Just as Scott pulled the car door open, she reached out to stop him."Scott, what's going on? Is it handled? Did that brat Chloe sign the letter?" Scott's face was like stone. "She signed. Now get in the car. We're picking up Carolyn." Monique's smile instantly returned. That little witch Chloe was just putting on a show—she still wanted back into the Lewis family. Why else would she cause all this trouble? Since she signed, fine. If Monique could kick her out once, she could do it again. Just wait and see.
