He Cheated. I Rose.

Chapter 234 The Homemade Pastries

Robert kept winning every single round of high-card draw. It was just one card each—whoever had the highest number won. Landon had never been one to believe in luck, but now? He was totally lost for words. "Hey kid, you're visiting a film set and all you wanna do is play cards? How boring is that? Pay attention—our stunt coordinator's here. We're doing wire work today!" Landon quickly changed the subject. You could refuse to believe others had this kind of good fortune, but this kid's luck was just off the hook. Robert pouted, looking totally let down. "Don't tell me you're scared. Seems to me like you're too chicken to keep playing." "Scared? Of high-card draw?" Landon let out a fake laugh. "C'mon, we're on set. It doesn't look good. Later, ask Eugene to play with you..." He leaned in and lowered his voice, teasing, "He's loaded. He can afford to lose. You might clean him out."Robert glanced over at Eugene. Their eyes met. Robert raised an eyebrow and flashed a cheeky, super cute grin. Eugene raised an eyebrow right back. Bold kid. Even his look is a challenge. The scene between Oralia and Carolyn was done. In the lounge... Oralia glanced toward Carolyn, who was in another lounge not far away. The makeup artist was fixing her look. The next scene would be big—lots of extras. It would be filmed at a specially set-up scenic spot on the outskirts of the manor. There would be horseback riding involved. "Credit where it's due—Carolyn can act. At least she's better than all those picky newcomers," Oralia said, taking the juice her assistant handed her. Chloe sat nearby listening and nodded. "She has acting skills. Works hard, takes it seriously—she's got potential. It's just a shame..." Chloe didn't finish. What she meant was, Carolyn worked hard, just not always in the right direction. "Hope she's genuinely sorry this time. If she causes trouble again, no need to lecture her—the industry itself will teach her the lesson." Oralia smiled, cool and confident. "People don't always learn from other people. Sometimes one hard knock from life is all it takes." Chloe watched Oralia's self-assured face and remembered the young girl who had fought her way out of dirt and decay. The sheer will it took just to survive. A soft smile touched Chloe's lips. Right now, this was good. If things could stay peaceful like this... that would be perfect. But how long could the peace last? "Everyone, Carolyn prepared some pastries for you. Hope you like them." Emily personally brought trays around, going from room to room, and finally stepped into Oralia's VIP area. "Ms. Larson, Ms. Lewis, please try some. They're really good," Emily said, working hard to build goodwill for Carolyn, her smile open and sincere. "I'll have one," Oralia spoke first. Pastries were being handed out everywhere. Even if Carolyn wanted to try something shady, she wouldn't do it in front of everyone. Oralia examined the pastry in her hand. Cute appearance, creative design. She looked up at Emily. "Are you sure Carolyn made this herself?" Emily's face turned bright red at the question. "I..." "Tell the truth—did she order takeout?" Oralia raised an eyebrow, completely in control. "No, not takeout. Not store-bought either. It's... it's..." Emily lowered her head and explained quietly, "Carolyn paid for the ingredients. I made them myself. I stayed up all night baking."Oralia listened, then let a smile return. "You've got real skill. Tastes good too. Thanks." She popped the rest of the pastry into her mouth in one bite. Emily blinked, stunned for a moment, then beamed with happiness. "Thank you, Ms. Larson. I'll keep practicing. Thank you." Overjoyed, she continued handing out pastries, her steps noticeably lighter. Chloe watched Emily's earnest expression and raised an eyebrow. "Sweet kid. Very pure-hearted." Oralia agreed. "Yeah. She's a good prospect. What a waste." She knew Emily was Carolyn's top fan. Why would such an innocent girl support someone like Carolyn? Filming was about to start. Everyone moved to the outdoor set. They were in the garden behind the estate. It was supposed to be decorated a different way at first. But the space was big enough, and it worked out perfectly. So the crew turned it into a riding area. The equipment was all set up. Staff brought the horses in. A lot of characters were in this scene. The main ones were Carolyn and Oralia. The male lead was there to tie the whole thing together. The actors had to ride horses and do wire work too. The first scene was with Oralia and the male lead. Their moves were simple. The wire work timed out smoothly. And when they checked the footage on the monitors? It looked really good.
