He Cheated. I Rose.

Chapter 231 The Midnight Conspiracy

"Carolyn, that's enough. Get up. Let's go. I'll take you to the car to rest." Henry stepped forward and reached for Carolyn's arm. "Get away from me!" She swatted his hand away. She lifted her eyes to look at Henry, her breath growing rapid. "I won't forget any of this. Now scram." With that, she grabbed Emily's arm and stormed out of the room. Henry froze. He was shocked by how broken she looked. This girl never lost her cool—not usually. She was always so good at charming people with sweet talk. Looks like he'd have to put in the effort to soothe her next, and it wouldn't come cheap. ***** Out in the courtyard... Oralia pulled Chloe toward the room the crew had fixed up for her. She'd arranged for Chloe and Robert to stay next door. "So, what do you think? Pretty nice, huh?" Oralia leaned in, voice dropping to a whisper. "The cubicles inside these rooms all connect to each other." "I cleared three whole days just to watch you work. Go wild and have fun." Chloe looked totally doting as Oralia acted up. Landon saw the whole thing and raised an eyebrow. "Tell me this—Oralia, the nation's goddess—she's got her head messed up, right? She's glued to Chloe, and now she wants to sleep in the same room? Dude, is that even okay?" Eugene didn't answer. His eyes stayed locked on Chloe—like she was the only person in the whole damn world. That night... The crew threw a huge bonfire party. The vibe was electric. Everyone was pumped for the three months of closed filming ahead. Having the investors show up in person to celebrate with them? It was a big honor. The excitement hung thick in the air—pure, unfiltered adrenaline. Meanwhile, the quiet room where Carolyn had locked herself away felt like a whole other world from the noisy party. She'd blocked Henry's number. He tried calling from his secretary's phone, but Carolyn ignored it. She tossed her phone down on the dressing table, flipped it to silent, and didn't so much as glance at it, no matter how many times the screen lit up with incoming calls. Emily stood off to the side, shifting awkwardly, not sure what to say. Carolyn's face was twisted up in raw, ugly anger. Her makeup was a total wreck—eyeliner smudged down her cheeks, lipstick feathered at the corners of her mouth. She stared at her reflection in the mirror. Her face was smudged with melted makeup, but she didn't care. Right then, there was nothing but hate burning inside her. Pure, unrelenting hate. For Chloe. Back when they lived in the Lewis Manor, she'd never been able to get one over on that woman. And now? Now she'd been humiliated in front of the entire crew—all because of Chloe. She'd finally gotten the role of second female lead—a chance to act with Oralia. She'd been so sure this was her chance to get in her good graces. But then? It turned out Oralia and Chloe were tight—like they'd been besties forever. All the things she'd done, all the things she'd said... what was the point of any of it? Her pride was crushed into the dirt. She wasn't going to let this slide. Oralia, that fake queen—acting all cold and fancy, but she was thick as thieves with Chloe. Birds of a feather. You dare look down on me and take Chloe's side?Just you wait. "Emily!" Carolyn wiped her face clean in one quick swipe. When she looked up again, her eyes were ice cold. "Carolyn, I'm here." Emily stepped forward, her face calm and serious."I need your help," Carolyn said, her voice softening into a coaxing tone. ***** Night fell. True to her word, Oralia slipped through the connecting door to find Chloe. She was determined to stay with her tonight. A king-sized bed now held three people. Robert slept soundly in the middle, with Chloe and Oralia on either side. Robert had worn himself out with play and had fallen asleep early. Chloe looked down at the little boy nestled in her arms, her face glowing with tender affection. Oralia lay on her side, propping her head up with one hand, gazing at Chloe with a teasing smile. "Should I call this a win or a total victory?" Oralia couldn't hide her grin. Ever since she found out Robert wasn't Arthur's child, Oralia had been overjoyed. In her eyes, Arthur had been a disappointment ever since Chloe slipped out of her world and ran off to get married. From that moment, Oralia couldn't stand him. He had married Chloe without her blessing and stolen her favorite person, and she had never agreed to any of it. She had planned to give Arthur a hard time during this trip to Capaville. But wow—luck was on her side. Arthur had been knocked out of the picture, vanished into thin air. The moment Oralia saw the divorce papers, she felt like a huge weight had lifted from her chest. "Robert's intelligence is off the charts, and he's incredibly capable. I always wondered how someone like Arthur could have produced such an amazing kid. Thank goodness—Robert's father is someone else." Oralia clicked her tongue. "Do you think that man is still alive?" Chloe's expression darkened. Who was that man? Not Arthur—someone else? The question haunted her. She had tried to look into it, but there was no way to find proof. Did Charles know? If he did know, was the man somehow connected to him?
