He Cheated. I Rose.

Chapter 227 The Welcome Gift

Watching the head guard stand his ground, Henry let out an uncomfortable laugh. "Hey, I was just asking. No need to get so serious about it." He forced a smile, then turned to Carolyn. Seeing she wouldn't even look at him, he leaned in close and whispered into her ear. Since Chloe was personally invited by "Mr. Eggert", he couldn't just ignore that. Edwin Eggert owned Kellian Media. Henry was just a deputy—and not even a high-ranking one. There was no way he could challenge him. "Relax. She accused you of stealing the welcome gifts? I'll make it right. I personally told the staff to give one to each person. I'll have them do it properly." As he spoke, he sneakily reached around and gave Carolyn's waist a hard pinch when no one was looking. A flicker of pain crossed Carolyn's face. She glared at him, but with everyone watching, she held her tongue. "You've got to back me up here," she murmured in a sugary voice. "Don't worry. Leave it to me. The gifts I prepared? They're perfect. You'll love them. The whole crew is getting one. If someone tries to claim they're hers, let's see if she has the nerve." He turned to Chloe and let out a dry chuckle. "Miss, did you just say the gifts I prepared were actually from you?" Chloe stared at the clown in front of her and simply snorted, too bored to even respond. Eugene had already texted her. So had Oralia and Brian. They were almost here—already in the estate's parking lot. It would take them less than ten minutes to get over. In just ten minutes, these clowns would expose themselves. She didn't need to lift a finger or waste her breath. Let them keep putting on their act. She wanted to see how long they could keep it up. "Everyone got your gifts, right? How are they? Pretty nice, huh? First coffee of the fall! I'm a thoughtful guy, aren't I?" Henry grinned at the crew and raised his voice. "Today is the first day of autumn. The first coffee of the fall—everyone should feel the care! Thanks for all your hard work! Carolyn is still young. Please take good care of her on set." His little speech basically took all the credit—but something about it sounded completely wrong. First coffee of the fall? People glanced at each other, confused. How did a new-season LV scarf become a cup of coffee? And with that fancy packaging, it clearly wasn't a drink. His words just didn't make sense. Chloe couldn't hold back a laugh. Robert just shook his head, his expression clearly saying, "Are you for real?" "What are you talking about? First coffee of the fall?" Carolyn finally caught on and looked at him, totally lost. Henry kept his smug smile. "Didn't you say we should give everyone something? I made it happen, right? I even asked my secretary what would be a good gift for today." The secretary gave an awkward smile. "Today is the first day of autumn. I said a cup of coffee would be a perfect gift." As soon as the words were out, the entire set went completely silent. So the big surprise Henry had prepared for Carolyn was the "first cup of coffee in fall." Everyone heard it clearly. But what they had actually received were brand-new LV scarves, handed out directly by the boutique staff. Those two things weren't even in the same world. A new LV scarf versus a regular coffee—even the most expensive coffee was only a dozen or so dollars. There was no comparison. "Excuse me, which one of you is Ms. Lewis? Your order is here!" Just as the atmosphere became awkward, a bright, cheerful voice rang out.Everyone turned to look. A small delivery truck had rolled in through the gate. It was topped with a giant mascot figure—impossible to miss. "Ms. Lewis, your coffee order from Snowy Cafe is here. You recharged 2,000 dollars and got 300 free. Your entire order is ready. Please sign here." The staff member smiled brightly as he held out the receipt. This was a premium customer. With an order that big, even the store manager had come along, smiling from ear to ear and ready to provide any service requested. As they started unloading, the little truck began blasting a ridiculously catchy theme song. Carolyn stared at the receipt handed to her. It was only such a small amount of money, yet they'd made such an obnoxious entrance. At that moment, she was dying to dig a hole in the ground and crawl into it. So the gift Henry had promised for everyone... was a cup of coffee?
