He Cheated. I Rose.
"Yeah, it was me," Chloe said, a faint smile on her lips. Carolyn hadn't expected Chloe to admit it so boldly. Her? What gave her the right? She was just some small-time designer—did she even earn a million a year? And that "founder" title didn't impress Carolyn either. She'd asked Henry about it. People like that merely came up with the name and the idea; they had no money to invest at all. If they ended up as the legal representative, it was usually to take the blame. They had no real power. So what was she so proud of? "You gave them? How, exactly? You just dropped by for a visit and decided to hand out all that expensive stuff? Should I call you stupid-rich, or just plain stupid—trying to take credit you didn't earn?" Carolyn laughed loudly, not hiding her scorn. "Let me give you some advice: that story won't fool anyone. If you want to pretend you're the giver, at least say you're an investor. That might sound believable. Investors throw their weight around. But you... do you even qualify?" "The staff already told you—it's not your place to decide who qualifies," Chloe replied, adjusting her posture comfortably. "Did your mother only teach you how to steal other women's men, and nothing about how to behave? If not, I don't mind teaching you a lesson today." "Chloe, what did you just say to me?" Ignoring Carolyn's outburst, Chloe turned to the guards. "Could you please escort this loud woman out?" "Understood, Ms. Lewis," the lead guard replied. He turned to Carolyn and gestured firmly. "Ms. Carolyn Lewis, please leave now. If you refuse, we won't hesitate to use force." "You've got to be kidding me. Didn't you hear what Mr. Vick just said? Do you not know who he is?" Carolyn raised her voice and dragged a chair over, dropping into it heavily. "I'm sitting right here. Let's see who dares to lay a hand on me."She sat there, looking smug. She pulled out her phone, took a picture of the head guard, and sent it to Henry along with a dramatic story—someone was stealing her moment, and he needed to come quickly and clear things up. Soon, a smirk spread across her face. Henry had replied, "I'm on my way. The driver is already headed over—just a few minutes out." Seeing that message, Carolyn relaxed. She had this in the bag. So Chloe wanted to play tough, and security wanted to act dumb? Fine. Today, she'd show them what real backing looked like. But before she could enjoy the moment, her chair suddenly lifted into the air. Her carefully made-up face went pale with panic. "What are you doing? Put me down! "Help! Somebody! "Emily, save me!"Ah! Let me go! I can walk on my own!" At her screams, one of the guards signaled, and they set the chair down. Carolyn stumbled to her feet, but instead of leaving, she swung a hand toward the head guard's face. He saw it coming and dodged easily. "Ms. Carolyn Lewis, if you continue to cause trouble, we'll have no choice but to inform Mr. Merrow," the guard said, his patience clearly gone. "Nonsense. Using Mr. Merrow to scare me? Don't forget—I'm the second female lead here because he invited me. My joining this crew is doing you a favor. Who do you think you are? Trying to teach me a lesson?" Carolyn pointed a sharp finger at Chloe and snapped, "I was the one who let these outsiders in. Now they're disrespecting me. I'm telling you to throw them out. Is that really so hard to understand?" The guard couldn't hold back a short laugh. "Ms. Carolyn Lewis, Ms. Chloe Lewis is an honored guest. We have direct orders from above to host her. Putting her in the VIP lounge was also a decision from the top. None of this has anything to do with you. We've already explained this. Did you not understand? I don't mind saying it again." His voice was firm, his face expressionless. "You..." Carolyn stared, stunned. What did he mean, it had nothing to do with her? Wasn't all this arranged by Henry? Had they misunderstood his instructions? "This is ridiculous. Are you sure you understood what the higher-ups meant? Maybe the order got mixed up. Maybe they told you to receive her—not to pamper her." Carolyn spoke out to remind them, just so these foolish watchdogs could tell things apart clearly. Same word, two very different meanings. "We understood perfectly, and we're acting exactly as instructed," the guard replied, his expression turning stern. "Ms. Carolyn Lewis, please return to your lounge now. If you refuse to cooperate, we can only apologize for what happens next."
