Chapter 219 Carolyn's Failed Power Play

"Chloe, if you were coming to visit, you should've told me ahead of time," Carolyn said, putting on a helpless expression. She frowned at the security guards. "The "Rebirth" crew's shooting is totally under wraps. If any random folks sneak in, that'd be a real mess." Emily, Carolyn's biggest fan, immediately recognized the woman as Chloe. People were still talking about Chloe online, with some saying she should become an actress. Too bad Chloe never seemed to care about that kind of attention. Seeing Chloe in person, Emily couldn't help but stare a little longer. That face—so delicate yet striking—was truly stunning. With looks like that, it felt like a waste she wasn't in the entertainment industry. Suddenly, she felt Carolyn seemed rather ordinary in comparison.Playing the part of a caring sister, Carolyn pulled out her phone. "I'll talk to the director and have security let you in. I need to get back for makeup now, so I can't stay and chat." She turned to the guards and deliberately raised her voice. "This is my sister. Make sure you treat her well." With that, Carolyn lifted her chin and walked off with Emily following close behind, her head held so high. As she was pulled along, Emily glanced back at Chloe. She really wanted to say hello. She loved Chloe's Four Seasons collection but could never afford it. Just one photo with Chloe would make her day. "Carolyn, is that really your sister? Do you think I could—" "Someone wants to visit me on set. Tell security to make them wait. Even if you let them in later, stall them. And don't offer any seats—make them stand. I want her to know what rejection feels like." Carolyn lowered her voice as she sent a voice message.Hearing this, Emily froze. Hadn't Carolyn just acted all friendly with her sister? What was going on? This sounded mean. Really mean. Chloe didn't say a word the whole time. She just watched Carolyn's little performance, finding the whole act awkward to watch. Robert tilted his head, watching Carolyn walk away, and muttered, "What's she so proud of anyway?" Chloe turned to the guards still blocking their path and simply gave them Oralia's name. The moment they heard she was here to see Oralia, the guards quickly checked if her last name was Lewis. The names matched. Their attitude changed completely. "Ms. Lewis, why didn't you say so earlier? We've been waiting for you. Sorry about the confusion—I didn't realize it was you." Smiling, the guard personally guided Chloe and Robert through the VIP entrance. Chloe held Robert's hand as they walked straight toward the filming area at the back of the estate. The crew was already busy getting everything ready—some were organizing costumes, others were doing makeup, and the props team was setting up their items. Everyone had their own job to do. A staff member guided Chloe and Robert to the lounge area. Brian hadn't shown up yet, and neither had the lead actress Oralia. The few people who had arrived early were chatting together in the shared lounge area. Nearby, Carolyn was relaxing in a recliner, being waited on by staff. Emily stood nearby, carefully fanning her with a small hand fan. "Carolyn, your look today is going to be amazing. I saw the stills—you're absolutely stunning," Emily gushed. Carolyn gave a smug smile. "Being good-looking isn't enough. I need to focus on improving my acting skills." "You're so right," Emily agreed. She pulled out her phone to show Carolyn their active fan group chat. "Everyone in the group is asking me to take photos once your makeup is done so I can share them with everyone."The makeup artist working on Carolyn joined in, "Ms. Lewis is definitely going to look gorgeous in every scene of this drama." Carolyn glanced at her and raised an eyebrow. "Thanks for your hard work. I've arranged some gifts for the whole crew today." Upon hearing this, the staff's faces lit up. Word spread fast. Everyone started thanking her for being so generous. Hearing everyone praise her looks and kindness made Carolyn feel even more satisfied with herself. She had already asked Henry to handle everything. It was her first day on set, and she was determined to make sure everyone would remember her. With Henry Vick, the investor, supporting her, the gifts definitely wouldn't be cheap. She couldn't wait to see everyone's reactions when they received them. "Carolyn!" Emily suddenly noticed Chloe arriving on set and quickly pulled at Carolyn's sleeve. "Stop that," Carolyn snapped, clearly annoyed."Carolyn, your sister is here," Emily whispered, adding quietly. "One of the staff members brought her in." "What?!" Carolyn's head shot up so suddenly that the makeup artist almost ruined her eyebrow line.
