He Cheated. I Rose.
Eugene's expression turned serious when he heard her choice. Landon quickly stepped in to intervene. "Let's not pick that one. Every one of these imported purebred horses can trace their ancestry clearly. The seller threw in that extra horse for free because we paid way over the asking price. But its bloodline is mixed with wild mustang. It's moody, hasn't been properly evaluated, and isn't suitable for racing." "Let's treat this as a test. How can you be so sure it's no good without even giving it a chance?" Chloe smiled. "I choose that one. A horse with a wild spirit sounds much more interesting." "But—" "I'll take full responsibility," Chloe cut him off before he could finish. Landon looked helpless and glanced at Eugene for direction. With the boss here, the final decision was his.Eugene stepped forward, his voice low. "That horse is fierce. It doesn't even have a name yet. None of our handlers could tame it. Its behavior is still unpredictable. Are you sure about this?" "If others couldn't tame it, that makes me want to try even more." Chloe looked at Eugene, a slight smile playing on her lips. "The more challenging it is, the more it proves it's worth doing, don't you think?" "Alright." Eugene gave a short nod and signaled the staff to bring the horse over. Seeing Eugene agree, Landon moved closer and spoke quietly to Chloe. "We can bring it out for you to play with, but for the race... let's not. I'm worried—" "You think I can't handle her?" Chloe countered. Landon fell silent. Meeting Chloe's confident gaze, he suddenly felt he might be worrying over nothing. Without another word, Chloe walked forward and waited for the staff to bring the horse. The horse clearly had a hot temper. The moment a staff member entered its stall, it grew restless—pawing the ground, shifting nervously, and snorting continuously as if protesting. They soon led it out. As the pure white horse approached, the other five horses grew visibly uneasy—only Gale remained relatively calm. "Let go of the lead rope," Chloe commanded the staff member as she stepped forward. The staff looked nervous, glanced at Eugene for confirmation, and after receiving a nod, reluctantly released the reins. The moment the restraint loosened, the white horse reared violently, its front hooves striking the air as it let out a sharp cry. Everyone watching tensed up. But in that split second, Chloe moved—she darted forward, grabbed the reins with one hand, and in one fluid motion, swung herself onto the horse's back. She moved so fast that Landon just stared, stunned. "Whoa... what just happened?" There was no time to process it. The moment Chloe settled in the saddle, the white horse erupted again, bucking wildly to throw her off. Chloe pulled the reins firmly, controlling the agitated animal with surprising ease. The white horse screamed again and tried to bolt. "This is getting dangerous. Someone could get hurt," Landon barked, motioning for the staff to be ready to intervene. "Everyone, stay back. Don't distract her." Eugene's voice cut through, firm and commanding. The area fell silent. The white horse continued its frantic leaping, determined to throw Chloe's slender frame into the dirt. Even Joseph looked concerned. Eugene stood still, his calm eyes fixed on the scene as if watching a perfectly practiced performance. And he believed it would end perfectly. "Incredible! How did she even do that?" Landon muttered in awe. When the horse reared up again in another attempt to dislodge her, Chloe made one decisive move—she tightened the reins and guided the horse into tighter circles, confining its movements. The horse hated the constraint, snorting repeatedly, but after a moment, it gradually calmed. The once wild beast settled into steady, controlled strides. "She tamed a horse our trainers called 'untamable'... and she made it look easy." Landon couldn't hide his admiration. "Eugene, this woman you've got your eye on... she's something else." A slight smile touched Eugene's lips, his gaze never leaving Chloe. Chloe rode the now-calm horse back toward the group. As she approached the other five horses, they grew restless again—even steady Gale showed a subtle reaction."This one is wild at heart. Its bloodline isn't as pure as the others, but it's a natural-born racer. Its limit might hit the max—or it could run out of steam after just one lap." Landon stepped closer, but the white horse grew skittish at his approach, forcing him to stop. "We'll find out soon enough if it can last the distance." Chloe smiled and glanced at the others. "Shall we begin? I'm really curious to see what this one can do." As she spoke, she reached down and gently stroked the white horse's neck.
