Chapter 205 The Lawyer's True Identity

Landon shook his head gently. That guy's strutting around like that. Does he have a death wish or what? Suddenly he felt the temperature around him plummet. He knew who had just walked up. He turned smoothly and saw Eugene standing there. Landon forced a casual smile. "Chloe and the others drove themselves." "Yeah." Eugene's reply was flat. He just walked away. Landon didn't dare say another word. Eugene's aura was so oppressive—it felt like he was barely holding back his hostility. The heavy silence lasted the whole car ride. Eugene didn't speak a word. Landon knew this was bad. Thankfully, the background check came through quickly. When his phone buzzed with the message, Landon finally breathed a sigh of relief.So... that man was a lawyer, called Zachary. He was handling Chloe's divorce. And that flashy guy was a legendary guy of the legal world. The one who never lost a case. Well, so interesting. "Eugene, that show-off... Wait, no—I mean the guy who showed up with Ms. Lewis today... it turns out he's a big shot in the legal field. My contacts just filled me in. That idiot from Myers Group threatened to sue Ms. Lewis. "Well, this Zachary put the word out. He's her lawyer now. He said anyone with a problem should come directly to him. He'll take on anyone who tries to sue her." A short, low sound came from the back seat. "Hmph." Eugene's expression didn't flicker. Landon glanced in the rearview mirror and allowed himself a small smile. Eugene didn't respond, but the crushing pressure in the car lifted instantly. So Zachary was just part of Chloe's legal team. No threat at all. ***** Over at the Myers Manor, Madilyn was in a rage. She snatched up a precious antique vase and hurled it to the floor. It shattered into a thousand pieces. A maid witnessed the outburst but didn't make a sound. She just hurried in to quietly clean up the mess. "That woman has gone too far! Who does she think she is?" Madilyn screamed, her face red with fury. "We didn't want that trash in our family! How dare she try to humiliate me? I want her to pay! I want her to suffer!" Donald stood silently nearby. A staff member hovered beside him, holding a camera, ready to start filming at a moment's notice. "Mrs. Myers, please don't make this difficult," Donald said, his voice calm. "The deadline is here. If you don't make the apology, LOVELESS's legal team will proceed. If you do it, this ends. If you refuse, the lawsuits will be endless. Myers Group's stock will plummet. If you can't—" "Enough! Shut up!" Madilyn cut him off, crossing her arms defiantly. "I'd rather die than record that thing! Forget it! All of you, get out! No one is changing my mind today." Donald didn't move, letting her rage run its course. Seeing this trick wasn't working, Madilyn collapsed onto the sofa. "You want to wait? Fine, we'll wait. If Chloe wants an apology, she can come here herself. I'll smash that pretty little face of hers!" "Mom." A low voice came from behind Donald. "You need to know when to stop." Madilyn froze. She watched as Arthur stepped out from behind Donald. Donald quietly moved aside. Arthur's words made her eyes widen in disbelief. "Arthur? How dare you speak to me like that?" "Mom, Chloe hasn't done anything wrong, yet you keep blaming her. Is it because she's from some small village? Because you don't like her? So you constantly target her?" Arthur sat down across from her, his demeanor calm. "Haven't done anything wrong? That bitch hid everything from us! What was she planning? She's not innocent, Arthur! Don't tell me she's charmed you, too! I'm telling you, Chloe is a—" "Mom!" Arthur's roar cut her off, silencing the venomous words on her tongue. "From the very beginning, I was the one who wronged Chloe. Can you please stop interfering?" Arthur looked straight at her, his gaze steady and serious. "Grandfather told me from the start that marrying her was my good fortune. But I didn't appreciate her. I messed around with Jennifer. I wasn't a good husband. I wasn't a good father. I wasn't even a decent man." He lowered his voice, a sigh escaping him. "I've made up my mind. I'm going to fix this. I'm going to win Chloe back." "What did you say?" Madilyn shot up from the couch, panic hitting her instantly. "Arthur, have you lost your mind? We finally got rid of that woman! And now you tell me you regret it?" She pointed a shaking finger at him, furious. She didn't even like Jennifer much—the girl was too ambitious—but compared to Chloe, Madilyn would rather have Jennifer by her son's side. At least Jennifer was on her team and could be a real help when it counted.
