He Cheated. I Rose.
It was obvious who he was waiting for. Robert walked in, dressed in a miniature suit. Landon stepped forward, his eyes going straight past Robert, hoping to see the person he was expecting. No such luck. Instead, his gaze landed on an elegant and stunning woman. That beautiful face, the long hair falling freely... Landon blinked. She looked so familiar. Had he seen her before? But wait... "Robert, where's your mommy?" Landon asked, pressing him. "Oralia and I got here first. Mommy said she's running late. She might be a no-show," Robert explained as he walked ahead. Landon felt his heart sink. It was like a punch to the gut. So was this dinner even happening? He turned and saw Robert leading the beautiful woman further into the room. They took the seats right next to Leo. As soon as the elegant woman sat down, a director across the table froze. He stared, looking both nervous and shocked. "Are you... Ms. Oralia Larson?" he finally managed to say. Oralia gave him a graceful smile. "Yes, I am." The director was completely floored. He stared at her for a long moment before finding his words again. "I can't believe it... Finally got to see... the real deal!" The room fell into silence. "My daughter is your biggest fan. Could I... could I possibly get an autograph for her later?" Oralia's smile widened. "Of course. I'll personalize it for her." "Thank you! Thank you so much!" The director stood up so fast he nearly knocked his chair over. He looked ready to bow in gratitude. That's when it clicked for Landon. No wonder she looked familiar. This was Oralia, the mega-famous star with a massive fanbase. Oralia was a huge name. Cosmos Group had a department involved in the entertainment industry. Her name was brought up repeatedly by the company's relevant person in charge at group meetings, and her photos were also shown. That's why he recognized her. At the last press conference, she'd been in disguise. It made sense for a top star to do that. But what was her connection to Chloe? Landon checked the time. They were way behind schedule. Everyone was here except Chloe. If they didn't start soon, the food would get cold. And worse, Leo's earlier comment still hung in the air, making everyone tense. "Eugene, if we wait any longer, the food will be cold," Landon muttered under his breath as he passed by Eugene. Eugene didn't respond. He didn't even move a muscle.A celebration dinner was supposed to be lively, but with Eugene frozen like a statue, nobody else dared to make a sound. The only person who looked relaxed was Leo. Landon's nerves were stretched tight. This was going badly. Maybe Chloe wasn't coming after all. And Arthur, that guy had the worst timing. Just as Landon was feeling stuck, a light, calm voice came from the doorway. "Sorry I'm late." Eugene, who had been perfectly still, finally lifted his head. His eyes went straight to the door. Chloe walked in. Right behind her was Zachary, wearing his usual loud floral shirt. Seeing Chloe arrive with another man, Eugene's eyes darkened for a second. That guy had been hanging around her a lot lately. As Chloe entered, Zachary even played the gentleman, holding the curtain aside for her. "Ms. Lewis!" Several shareholders recognized her and stood up to greet her. Chloe scanned the table. There was only one empty seat left—right next to Eugene. There was no seat for Zachary. "I brought a friend with me. We'll need another chair," Chloe stated. Landon jumped into action, all smiles. "No problem at all! We'll get another seat right away." He turned and signaled to the restaurant manager waiting by the door, who hurried off to arrange it. "Chloe, please, have a seat! We've all been waiting for you," Landon said warmly, personally pulling out the empty chair next to Eugene for her. "Okay," Chloe replied softly. Soon, the manager returned with an extra chair. When Zachary saw where they'd placed him, one eyebrow shot up. Who did he annoy? They'd put him directly across from Eugene. He'd been hoping to sit next to Chloe. ***** After the celebration dinner, Leo left first, accompanied by a few directors. Landon found an excuse and asked Bruce to drive Chloe and the others home. "That's not necessary. Zachary has his car," Chloe said, gesturing towards the man in the floral shirt. Then she left with Robert and Oralia. "Much obliged!" Zachary sauntered up to Landon, let out a low, teasing whistle, then turned and strutted off after Chloe, his steps light and carefree. Landon watched Zachary's retreating back, his eyes narrowing.
