He Cheated. I Rose.

Chapter 202 A Legal Threat

"There's a cafe right next door. Two minutes away. Come on, Mr. Myers." With that, Chloe turned and walked off, leaving Arthur standing there looking lost. Arthur didn't move at first. No matter how annoyed he felt, seeing Chloe like this made him swallow his pride and hurry after her. He told himself—just explain everything properly, and she'd come around. Inside the cafe, Arthur went all out, ordering every specialty coffee on the menu. He said he wanted Chloe to try them all—to show how much he cared. "Alright, Arthur. What is it you actually want?" Chloe wasn't interested in his big show. Her tone was flat, all business, like this was some formal meeting, not a talk between two people who used to be married. Arthur paused and looked at her, his expression turning serious. "Chloe, I'm sorry." "Get to the point. Cut the crap."Arthur held back, then gave a small smile. "I know I messed up before. There's really nothing going on between me and Jennifer. I just didn't handle the situation well. For that, I owe you a real apology. "As for my mom, I'll make sure she apologizes to you publicly. Don't worry—within three days, you'll see a public apology all over the internet," Arthur promised. Chloe's face stayed blank. She wasn't buying it. "Jennifer saved my life. If it weren't for her, I wouldn't be here. I felt grateful. Because she saved me, she ended up with long-term health issues. I've always felt guilty. I said I'd look after her and her kid. But I ignored our family. I ignored how you felt. And I let Robert down." Arthur lowered his voice. "Chloe, Robert is our son. It's my job to take care of him. And as your husband, it was my job to take care of you." For a second, Chloe's calm face flickered when she heard his sincere words. Arthur saw it and kept going. "Chloe, I was wrong before. I get that now. Can you give me another chance?" "Hold on." Chloe held up her hand to stop him. "If you keep wasting time with nonsense, there's no point in talking anymore." Just then, the server brought over all the coffees Arthur had ordered—nine cups, each looking and tasting different, covering the whole table. Arthur kept his cool, waited until the server left, and said earnestly, "Chloe, can't we just sit and have a real talk?" "Aren't I sitting right across from you?" Chloe leaned back in her chair. She tapped one finger lightly on the table, slow and easy. Arthur clenched his jaw. Every word Chloe said had a sharpness to it. She was still mad, still not ready to forgive. "Chloe, let's get married again," he said, dead serious. Chloe didn't say a word. She just stared at him, like he was putting on some big act. "Chloe, from now on, I'll do right by you. For the rest of my life, it's only you," Arthur said, a soft smile pulling at his lips. He reached across the table, trying to take the hand she'd been tapping with. But Chloe pulled her hand back before his fingers even brushed hers. "Arthur, you really know how to play the devoted guy," she said, her voice light as a feather. Seeing her smile, Arthur froze, thinking his sincerity had finally gotten through. He started to speak—but then her voice cut in, cold and steady. "You know what your 'deep love' reminds me of? Those flyers people hand out on the street." "What?" Arthur blinked hard, his brow furrowing. For a second, his brain stuttered, like it couldn't process the comparison. He didn't get it—where was this coming from? "Still don't get it?" Chloe raised an eyebrow, her smile turning icy. "Your love is cheap. You hand it out to anyone who walks by." Arthur's jaw tightened. He said nothing, but his fingers curled into fists under the table, knuckles whitening. "Arthur, cut the 'I-know-it-all' act. There's nothing left to talk about. You signed away custody of Robert yourself. Now you wanna fight me for him? Well, first off... you gotta have what it takes." Chloe stood up. "You've got so much 'love' to spare, huh? Then put your money where your mouth is—pay the bill. You've made me late for my celebration." Her gaze flicked over the nine coffee cups cluttering the table and she let out a short, bitter laugh. "Real romantic, by the way." With that, she turned on her heel, heading for the door. "Chloe!" Arthur's voice followed her, sharp and frustrated. "I'm prepared to take this to court. Robert is my son. I have every right to fight for him. It's not up to you. If you won't remarry me and go back to how things were, then we'll do this the legal way. See you in court." He lowered his voice, trying to sound firm. "Then go ahead and file. I'll be waiting." Without another second, Chloe walked out with long, sure strides.
