He Cheated. I Rose.

Chapter 201 The Custody Gambit

Eugene didn't speak. He just gave a quiet, subtle smirk. Watching these two exchange glances, Landon could only sigh to himself. The world of big shots wasn't for him. He was happy just being a regular office worker. "Today calls for a celebration," Landon said. "I've invited Mr. Snow. After work, we're all heading to Eve Restaurant. Our generous boss booked out the whole top floor, so we won't be disturbed. Let's invite a few close friends, too. We'll celebrate the new partnership between our companies and Four Seasons' latest record." "Sounds good," Chloe replied with a smile. After wrapping up the discussions, they left the Cosmos Group building together. Landon walked a step behind, while Chloe and Eugene side-by-side led the way. Bruce was already waiting out front with the car.Landon strode forward with a smile, gracefully opening the rear door. "After you, my esteemed leaders," he said, a mischievous grin playing on his lips. Chloe glanced at the spacious back seat, then at Eugene beside her. She caught the mischief in Landon's smile right away. She moved to get in, but a voice called out from behind. "Chloe!" Her expression cooled the instant she heard it. That voice always put her on edge. It was Arthur. He actually had the nerve to show up—what a persistent pest! Chloe stopped and looked at the man approaching. Arthur was still in his work suit, like he'd come straight from the office. When he saw her, he closed the distance in a few quick strides.Landon smoothly stepped in front of Chloe, blocking his path. "Well, well. Look who it is," Landon said, his smile friendly but his eyes sharp. "What's this about?" "This is between me and Chloe. Stay out of it." Arthur shot Landon a dismissive look, glanced briefly at Eugene standing nearby, then fixed his gaze back on Chloe. "Chloe, we need to talk. Since you wouldn't come to me, I came to you. How about today? Just a few minutes of your time. Let's sit down and sort this out." His voice was steady, almost too controlled. "Arthur, we have nothing to talk about." Chloe turned back toward the car. "I want to discuss Robert's custody." She froze. Her eyes turned icy as she looked at his determined face. Arthur saw her hesitation and knew he'd hit a nerve. A flicker of satisfaction crossed his features.Chloe stopped trying to get into the car and walked toward him. As she passed Eugene, he spoke quietly. "You don't have to deal with this. Cosmos Group's lawyers can handle it." Hearing that, Chloe's face softened a little, warm and gentle. "It's fine. I need to settle this myself, or it'll never end." She met Eugene's gaze. "You all go ahead. I'll catch up later." "Okay." Eugene nodded. His eyes shifted to Arthur, dark and unreadable, before he got into the car. Landon gave Arthur another look, chuckled under his breath, and followed Eugene inside. The car engine started. As it pulled away, the rear window rolled down, revealing Eugene's handsome profile. "Call me if you need anything," he said. Then the window closed, and the car drove off. Chloe stood for a moment, turning that line over in her head. It felt a little too close. Was he trying to stir something up? Or just adding fuel to the fire? "What's going on with you two? Who is this Eugene guy? He seems pretty chummy with Landon from Cosmos." Arthur's tone was calm, yet his words carried a clear edge of hostility. "Some people have hidden motives. You're still naive in some ways—don't fall for smooth talkers. What will you do when you're left high and dry?" "That's none of your concern. Let's go. You wanted to talk, right? Where to?" Chloe checked the time on her phone. "I have a celebration dinner tonight. I'm not wasting time on this. You have ten minutes. When time's up, I'm leaving." Annoyance flashed in Arthur's eyes, but he held it back. She was angry at him, all because of that messy situation with Jennifer. She had misunderstood him back then. Now that he'd cleared things up, it was time they had a proper talk. "I booked a table at the Garden Restaurant. Order anything you like. I booked the top floor—" he began, but Chloe cut him off.
