Chapter 177 The Sudden Kidnap

"I..." Chloe was just about to respond to Landon when her wrist was suddenly seized. A figure darted forward, pulled her forcefully, and in the next moment shoved her into a car that had screeched to a halt at the curb. The car seemed to appear out of nowhere, as if it had been waiting. Chloe barely had time to process what was happening. Someone hauled her into the front passenger seat, and before she could identify the person, the seatbelt clicked into place across her chest. Only then did she see the man's face clearly—it was Arthur. "Arthur, have you lost your mind?" Chloe exclaimed. She hadn't expected Arthur to pull such a reckless stunt. What was he even doing here now? "If I'd lost my mind, I wouldn't be this controlled right now," Arthur retorted sharply. "Chloe, sit still. I'm trying to save you from yourself." Chloe was speechless. Arthur swiftly slid into the driver's seat. Landon, realizing it was Arthur causing trouble, rushed forward to intervene. But Arthur slammed his foot on the accelerator, aiming the car directly at Landon. "Arthur, you tryna get yourself killed?!" Landon roared, stumbling back just in time to avoid being hit. Arthur shot him a cold, disdainful look, then floored the gas and sped off with Chloe. Just as Arthur's car disappeared around a corner, a sleek black sedan pulled up smoothly to the LOVE headquarters entrance. The rear window slid down, and in that brief moment, Chloe's eyes met those of the man sitting inside. Eugene was in the back seat. The moment the window lowered, he looked up—directly in time to see Chloe being forced into a car and driven away right before his eyes.Arthur's car vanished like a gust of wind. The black sedan came to a complete stop. Eugene pushed the door open and stepped out. His gaze swept once over the now empty road where the car had disappeared. His eyes turned to ice. "Chloe was scheduled to hold a press conference to clear her name. There were only 45 minutes left, and Arthur actually dared to kidnap her," Landon reported as he strode up to Eugene. "He moved so fast. It feels like he was lying in wait for this exact moment." Eugene's expression darkened further as he stared down the deserted road. Bruce got out of the car, quickly assessed the situation, and lowered his voice. "Mr. Rosewood, shall I pursue them?" Before he could finish his sentence, Eugene moved past him in a blur, pushing Bruce aside. In the next instant, he was in the driver's seat. "Mr. Rosewood!" Bruce jolted in surprise at the sudden action. That was incredibly fast. Landon stared, his eyes wide. Damn, so fast. "Eugene? You—" he started, but didn't finish. The black sedan executed a sharp, clean turn and shot forward like a bullet. Landon was left standing there, swallowing a mouthful of exhaust fumes. Watching the car disappear, the thought struck him: Eugene was dead serious. For the first time, Landon was convinced that Eugene's attitude was tough as nails and not to be defied. He was serious about Chloe, not just playing around. He was making his stance brutally clear through action. "Mr. Voss, what should we do now?" Bruce asked cautiously. He'd just been tossed out of the car—what else could he say? Landon gave Bruce a quick glance. Just then, the company car that would take Chloe to the press conference arrived. Landon grabbed Bruce's arm. "Let's go. We'll head to the press conference and manage things from there."Inside the moving car... Chloe watched the speedometer needle climb higher. The atmosphere in the vehicle was tense and strange. They had driven several miles already, and Arthur hadn't spoken a single word. She had no idea where he was taking her. "Arthur, what exactly is your plan here?" Chloe asked, her voice flat and calm. But that indifferent tone only made Arthur's jaw clench harder. His grip on the steering wheel tightened until his knuckles whitened. "Chloe, after all the chaos you've stirred up, you have nothing to say to me?" Arthur's voice was icy cold, clearly strained with repressed anger. Even before he had grabbed her, he had been fighting to keep his temper under control. To show off her work, Chloe actually copied other people's creations? Was this all just some foolish attempt to prove she could make money and hold down a decent job?"Why would I have anything to say to you? Who are you to me?" Chloe let out a short, sharp laugh, her face full of irritation. He had shown up out of nowhere to cause a scene, dragged her into a car, and was now speeding off with her without any explanation. Yes, she was furious. "Who am I? You know perfectly well who I am," Arthur snapped. "Chloe, even if we're divorced, I'm still your ex-husband. I have every right to ask why you're degrading yourself like this—risking your reputation just for a moment in the spotlight." "You're accusing me of degrading myself?" Chloe stared at Arthur in sheer disbelief. She pointed at herself, repeating the question.
