He Cheated. I Rose.

Chapter 159 Misunderstanding

"I was going to—" Eugene started to speak, but Bruce cut in first. "Ms. Lewis, sorry—we're actually on our way to the airport right now. We'll be there in about ten minutes. Is it something important? I can come get it if that's easier." Bruce glanced in the rearview mirror and saw Eugene's expression—dark and clearly unhappy. A chill ran down his spine. "I'll drive to the airport. Just text me which gate you're at. I'll bring it over," Chloe said before ending the call. "Alright, Ms. Lewis." Even though she had already hung up, Bruce still responded politely. Silence filled the car. Even the driver became more cautious, careful not to make any unnecessary sounds. Bruce turned around with a nervous smile. "Mr. Rosewood, Ms. Lewis is coming to the airport herself just to bring you something." Eugene's eyes darkened. He turned to look out the window without saying a word. Bruce breathed a quiet sigh of relief. Thank goodness his boss hadn't gotten angry—otherwise he'd be in real trouble. After hanging up, Chloe drove straight to the airport. She drove a bit faster than usual and got there quickly. After parking, she picked up the gift box she had prepared and headed for the VIP lounge. Bruce was already waiting at the entrance. "Ms. Lewis." He quickly walked over when he saw her. "Bruce, sorry, did I disrupt your schedule?" Chloe asked with an apologetic smile. "Not at all. Mr. Rosewood is resting in the lounge. It's a long flight—more than ten hours. Ms. Lewis, what did you bring for him? Should I ask him to come out?" Bruce kept his head slightly lowered, intentionally steering the conversation toward Eugene. At that moment, across the terminal, Eugene stood on the upper level, watching them from the opposite side. If Chloe had just turned around and looked up, she would have seen Eugene right away. "It's fine. Let him rest. More than ten hours on a plane is really tiring," Chloe said with a light laugh, then handed the gift box to Bruce. "This is...?" Bruce blinked in surprise. "It's for him. I picked everything out myself." Chloe spoke seriously. "These things are all pretty good. Please tell him to take good care of himself." "Okay." "Then I'll be on my way." After a hasty goodbye, Chloe turned on her heel and walked away, her steps brisk. Bruce stood rooted to the spot, clutching the neatly wrapped box in his hands. He had absolutely no clue what lay inside—he'd have to wait until it was opened to find out. Chloe had left just like that. Eugene was still watching from across the way. Bruce glanced in his direction, then quickly turned around and hurried off. This was a gift from Chloe, after all—he needed to get it delivered right away, no delays. Onboard Eugene's private jet, Bruce carefully set the box down in front of him, his movements gentle as if handling something fragile. "Mr. Rosewood, Ms. Lewis asked me to tell you she hopes you take good care of yourself." After delivering the message, Bruce quickly retreated to the back seats, not daring to stay nearby. Eugene's expression softened slightly. Chloe telling him to take care of himself... The thought felt strange. He looked down at the substantial box. She had called and driven all the way to the airport, just to give him this? What could be so important? Eugene opened the box. His gaze turned cold. These were all... top-quality supplements. Was Chloe telling him to... nourish his body? Then he noticed the small box at the bottom—and his expression darkened completely. Kidney Booster... Seriously? What was this woman thinking? She came all this way to give him these? What exactly was she trying to say? Eugene grabbed his phone and called Landon. The moment the call connected, before Landon could speak, Eugene's voice came through low and dangerous. "Back at the Mistveil Manor, did you say something to Chloe?" "Nothing! What could I possibly say? Ms. Lewis just told me to thank you, that's all." Landon couldn't help laughing. "Looks like she cares about you. While you were in the treatment room, she waited outside the whole time. The scene... it was exactly like someone watching over their loved one, hoping they'd recover." "Landon, I'm giving you one chance to save yourself." Eugene gripped the phone tightly. Chloe wouldn't have done this unless Landon had said or done something. "Whatever I said or did, I meant well. I was trying to help you win her over faster." "You have ten seconds." "Okay, okay! I just, well, might have exaggerated your condition a bit. I told Chloe the drug was really strong, and someone as straight-laced as you had pushed your body to the limit—I was worried you might have some lasting effects." Landon couldn't resist teasing. "Relax. When she heard that, she was clearly worried. It seems she's quite concerned about you. Maybe this will speed things up between you two!"
