Chapter 157 Resignation

Diana watched the elevator doors close, hopping anxiously in place. "Chloe, now's really not a good time to go up! The manager is—" Her warning got cut off as the elevator completely closed. She could only watch helplessly as the numbers lit up toward the design department. She'd rushed down on purpose to stop Chloe; she didn't want her and Linda to confront each other head-on. If Chloe went up now, she'd definitely run right into Linda. From Diana's anxious look, Chloe had already guessed something was going on in the design department. She just hadn't realized how bad it was. The moment she stepped off the elevator, every person in the department turned to look at her. Like clockwork, they moved aside to clear a path. At the end of that path stood the manager by his office door while a woman next to him pointed a finger and raised her voice. "Everyone here knows my track record in this department. LOVE's best-selling lines have always been my 'To Me' collections. If the company wants to back the new hires, fine. But to appoint some outsider as design director, someone ordinary with no remarkable skills—how do you expect anyone to respect that?" Linda's voice carried across the floor, thick with sarcasm. "Guess I don't have a strong background, no real ability, and can't curry favor with the big shots. Fine, I'll live with it and step aside." She spotted Chloe's reflection in the glass partition and gave a thin, cold smile. Then she ripped off her "chief designer" badge and threw it toward the manager. "Linda!" Lisa hurried over and grabbed her arm. "Lisa, you're on your own now. I can't help you anymore. I'm quitting today."Linda scanned the faces of the design team and sneered. "All of you, do your best. I'm clearly not good enough here. I'm leaving. I'll go find somewhere that appreciates real talent." Linda had been at LOVE for years, and in everyone's mind, she was the star chief designer. Her words left the room in shocked silence. Nobody knew what to say. Lisa had always worked as Linda's right-hand assistant. Seeing Linda resign, she placed her own badge on the table too. "If Linda's leaving, I'm going with her. I hope to find a workplace that truly values design. I'll follow Linda and chase after the design master, Mirabelle. "Mirabelle is my inspiration. Her work is one of a kind. She only released one collection and became a legend in our industry—something not everyone can achieve, especially not people who got where they are through questionable means." When Mirabelle's name came up, Chloe's eyes lifted slightly, a faint light appearing in them. She walked closer, her gaze passing over Linda, but didn't speak. Now that Chloe had arrived, Linda didn't hold back. She spoke clearly and sharply. "Ms. Lewis, you're LOVE's director now. Your first collection, the Four Seasons series, is about to launch. I hope you can set some new records for LOVE. Wish you all the best." Chloe didn't take the bait. Her expression stayed neutral, just a slight smile touching her lips. Under everyone's watchful eyes, she simply replied, "Thank you. I'll do my best." Linda hadn't expected Chloe to stay so calm during this public challenge. Was she just oblivious, or was she so confident in her backing that she didn't even need to respond to criticism? Everyone at the design team knew Chloe had been appointed from above. Her Four Seasons series was already being promoted but remained under wraps, a total mystery. Online buzz about what the collection would actually look like kept growing. LOVE had always worked closely with LOVELESS, and its sub-series always drew attention. No matter how weak a collection LOVE put out, loyal customers would still buy it. But breaking the sales records of her "To Me" series? That would be nothing but a fantasy. Linda raised an eyebrow and gave the manager a cold glare. "From today on, I have nothing to do with LOVE. I've already submitted my resignation to HR. Please process it quickly and remove all my information." She had expected to make a scene and show her frustration. The manager should have tried to calm her down—after all, she was the designer behind LOVE's best-selling products. But the manager just stated evenly, "If your mind is made up, there's nothing more to say. I'll have HR handle it. I wish you the best in your future career."Linda was speechless. That was it? Not even one word asking her to stay? Without another glance at Linda, the manager walked straight over to Chloe and said simply, "Ms. Lewis, let's discuss the promotion plan in my office." "Alright. Thank you." Keeping her response brief, Chloe followed the manager out. Linda stood frozen, watching them walk away, pure hatred burning in her eyes. Just who had Chloe clung to that made her this self-assured and untouchable? Who did she think she was?
