The Cherished Pet of Nine Beast Husbands

Chapter 76 The Traumatized Lucien

Corvin's actions didn't just humiliate Lucien; he had also offended every female out there. No female would want to see a therian strut around in his birthday clothes every single day. It didn't matter how good-looking that therian was. It just wasn't done! Lucien, who had always been known for his even temper, was well and truly pissed this time around. He left Emma's arms and marched up to Corvin before slowly lifting his remaining feather-tipped wing. Then, he promptly smacked Corvin right across the face. Fortunately for him, Corvin was currently hogtied in place and couldn't dodge out of the way. However, he wasn't about to take this insult lying down as he whined pitifully, turning toward Emma with big, puppy eyes.Although Emma couldn't understand him, she knew enough to be aware that he was playing the victim. "You deserve it," she said flatly. "Look at what you did to Coalball! You're lucky he only slapped you twice." She wasn't the least bit moved by Corvin's pathetic whines. Even though Coalball had gotten his kicks in, he was still far from placated. Instead, he continued to glare at Corvin fiercely. Back when he was in his prime, his commanding aura could rival even Drake's. Now, though… It was best not to even think about it. Coalball raised his claw and yanked at Corvin's whiskers with a sharp tug. "Chirp!" Corvin, do this again, and I will eviscerate you even if Emma tries to protect you! He'd let plenty of things slide for Emma's sake, but this? This was going a step too far!Once he had said his piece, he didn't even dare to look at Emma before diving under the nearest blanket. He'd rather die of asphyxiation than go around starkers in front of Emma. Corvin began to whimper due to his torn whiskers. It actually sounded like he was seconds away from bursting into tears. Still, Emma only untied him after she was certain that Coalball was done exacting his revenge. Corvin launched himself into her arms the second the ropes came off, whining all the way. She sighed wearily, feeling an incoming migraine. At this point, she couldn't help but think that she hadn't gotten herself a husband. If anything, she'd gotten herself a child to care for. Nevertheless, she patted his head, albeit halfheartedly. "There, there. You're alright. Stop picking on Coalball, okay? Be good for me now." She had a feeling that Jimmy had booked it so quickly because he didn't want to babysit the cub version of Corvin. He definitely knew that the Corvin who was forced into his cub form after draining his ability was a total menace. "Awooo!" Corvin mewled in contentment, nuzzling against her chest like a spoiled child. Edric's eyes darkened when he saw what Corvin was doing. Sure, he was a cub at the moment, but still! Where did he think he was rubbing against? So, he promptly picked Corvin up by the scruff and took him away from Emma's comforting embrace. "Emma, you should check on Coalball. He looks like he's seconds away from throwing himself off the cliff because of what Corvin did." If someone was going to get cuddled, Edric would rather have that ugly duckling be the lucky winner than this clingy mutt. "Arf!" Corvin growled in protest, but one sharp look from Edric was all it took to shut him right up. "Keep this up, and I'll throw you in the cage." Corvin immediately snapped his muzzle shut. It was obvious that the word "cage" had cut through the fog of his cub brain. Only then did Edric turn his attention back to Emma. She had taken his advice and was gently coaxing Coalball out of the blanket. The poor bird really did look traumatized. It was curled under the blanket and refusing to leave its newest hidey-hole. "It's okay, Coalball. They'll grow back," she said softly. After a beat, she suggested, "If you don't want to wait, interstellar hospitals provide feather implant services. We can drop by and have them fix you up all pretty." Edric, who had been devising plans to check whether Emma's sense of smell was busted, suddenly had a lightbulb moment when his eyes landed on the depressed Coalball. "Emma, they only provide those services for therians. They don't treat birds like Coalball. Don't worry. I've got a plan." "You do?" Both Emma and Coalball immediately turned to look at him in surprise. Edric curled his lips into a confident smile and pulled up a couple of colorful feathers from his storage band. Then, he took out a pair of wing molds. Although Emma had no idea what materials the wing molds were made of, they did look like they were a perfect fit for Coalball. The molds even seemed weightless. One could say that they truly were feather-light. Edric strapped them onto Coalball and began sticking those feathers on at random. He didn't even consider whether the colors matched. It was definitely a slapdash job. By the time he was done… Well, Coalball looked way worse. If Coalball wasn't traumatized earlier, he definitely was now. Emma's lips twitched as she tried her best to suppress a giggle as she thought, I really shouldn't have trusted a man's eye for aesthetics. So, she quickly took over and picked out a set of matching black feathers from the pile. Then, she carefully glued them onto the molds one by one. They weren't perfect, but at least Coalball was no longer in the nude. … Meanwhile, Coalball was completely resigned to his fate. This was still better than being naked. Just as he was starting to recover from his trauma, he heard Edric say, "Emma, Coalball's not getting any younger. Don't you think it's time we should find him a mate?" Lucien instantly felt his blood pressure rise once more.
