The Cherished Pet of Nine Beast Husbands
Emma couldn't die. If she did, there'd be no other female capable of soothing his restless mental power. That had to be why he came. It definitely wasn't because he was worried about her. Holding Coalball, Emma scanned the area with a frown. "This setting doesn't seem very suitable for a mental comfort session." At her words, Drake gave a crisp wave of his sharply defined hand, and a premium rest pod materialized instantly before her. "This will do. I'll have my people guard the perimeter. No one will disturb us." Emma felt another urge to go toe-to-toe with these moneybags. This rest pod was even nicer than the one Edric had prepared for her. Just one of these pods cost tens of billions of star coins. She'd thought that was a fortune, but apparently, it wasn't even enough for Drake to buy himself a luxury camping tent. Following him inside, she nearly lost it when she saw the floor and walls covered in gems and high-rank beast cores. She'd thought Drake's bed, made from a Rank 8 beast cores, was the height of extravagance, but his rest pod was pure insanity. He was impossibly, obscenely rich! As Drake settled onto a gem-encrusted chair, Emma walked over. After a moment of hesitation, she said, "Um, I already drank your potion, so let's skip the star coin payment for this mental comfort session. Could you do me a favor instead? I got separated from Edric and Damian, and they're probably losing their minds looking for me. "Could you have your people pass them a message? Just let them know I'm here." Drake had already heard about Edric from his subordinates. He was Emma's other suitor. Unlike Damian or himself, Edric was serious about Emma. He genuinely wanted to bond with her. Bond? The word made Drake unreasonably uncomfortable. He was clearly displeased, his voice laced with sarcasm and mockery. "Why do you worry that those failures—who couldn't even protect their own huntress—will go crazy looking for you, instead of punishing them?" This female's sense of judgment was truly baffling. She was easily swayed by star coins, and the moment someone showed her a sliver of kindness, she fell for it again. She'd almost been killed by the Rank 11 Chitinid, yet instead of being angry, she was worried about those two worthless suitors. "They're not failures." Emma refused to let anyone insult her suitors, especially Edric. She explained earnestly, "I was surrounded by a rampaging beast herd not long ago, and Edric led us through all of it. "He kept me completely safe. He's incredible. No one could have predicted a Rank 11 Chitinid would suddenly appear. Edric wanted to save me, but the enemy was just too strong. That's not his fault." There weren't many Rank 11s in the entire Interstellar Empire. Even among the Chitinids, they were rare. Monsters like that almost never appeared. Emma had simply been unlucky to run into one. Then again, considering she'd been transmigrated, maybe running into a Rank 11 Chitinid wasn't that surprising. "Not being powerful enough is the mistake," Drake said coldly. This female was actually making excuses for those two failures. That was utterly ridiculous! It was impossible to reason with a high-status male like Drake. He only cared about his subordinates' competence and efficiency, nothing else. "Fine, I'll just give you the mental comfort now." She only wanted to get it done as soon as possible, so she could find Edric and Damian herself. Seeing Emma's expression darken, Drake pressed his lips together. She seemed angry. Had he said something wrong? But wasn't it Edric and Damian's fault for failing to protect their huntress? When she stayed silent, Drake looked at her and asked in a low voice, "Are you mad?" She'd grown thinner in just a few days. Her combat suit was torn and ragged, and she was covered in soot. Only her face, which she must have scrubbed clean, was barely presentable. "Yeah," Emma admitted plainly. "I don't like you talking smack about my suitors."She was fiercely protective of her own. He frowned. "But I'm your suitor too, and they really did fail to protect you. They're useless." She felt drained just trying to reason with him. "Forget Damian. Let's talk about Edric. He and I are going to bond. He'll be my mate, and no one gets to criticize him but me. "As for you, yes, you're technically my suitor, but we've already agreed to dissolve the match. To me, you're a stranger. The only thing tying us together is star coins." Without the star coins, she couldn't care less about him. Drake was at a loss for words. Emma didn't want to waste another breath. "Let's just start the mental comfort session."
