The Cherished Pet of Nine Beast Husbands
Silas never expected that his suggestion would be a kick to the hornet's nest. First, Lucien had suddenly lost his marbles, then Marcus had somehow gained a sliver of intelligence, and finally, there was Edric, ever the opportunist. Suffice it to say, Silas could barely keep the smile on his face from slipping. How dare these shameless buffoons use his cub to win Emma's favor! Did they not have even a modicum of shame left in their bones? They should just get a cub of their own instead of using his! Emma finally looked away from Remy to sweep her eyes across the men before her, her lips twitching at their reactions. Did they really think that she was so blind that she wouldn't be able to see through their tactics? You know what? Fine! If it's my attention you want, it's my attention you'll all get! "Sure." Emma nodded before continuing, "Since you're all eager to meet Remy, then you're all welcome to meet him."Then, she turned to Callum, who hadn't spoken since the beginning, and said, "Callum, you're invited as well." Callum blinked at her dumbly. "M-Ms. Tibarn, you… you want me to join you?" He wasn't so foolish as to believe that Marcus and Lucien were that invested in Remy. So… was she suggesting what he thought she was suggesting? Was she going to let him… Emma gently placed Remy back on Silas' shoulder, carefully adjusting his position to ensure his comfort. Then, she reached for her cutlery and began to dig in. It had been a long day for her today, so she was absolutely starving. Edric really is on his way to becoming a fantastic cook. Emma chomped down on her meal, pleased by the food. Still, she would occasionally shoot hopeful looks at Remy, who was on Silas' shoulder. She couldn't help but wonder what Remy would look like. The others fell silent as they waited for Emma to finish her meal. They didn't want to disturb her when she was eating. Marcus immediately spoke up the instant she set her cutlery down. "Ms. Tibarn, I'm done with my meal too. You should rest. Don't worry, I'll take care of the dirty dishes." Marcus was no longer the same etherian he once was. He was no longer indifferent to his surroundings. Instead, he had fully dedicated himself to winning Emma's heart for himself. Edric also rose to his feet when he saw that Marcus was stacking the plates. "Emma, why don't I make you a pot of fruit tea?" Lucien stood up and said, "I'll wipe the table." Kieran quickly offered, "Then, I'll help out with the dishes too." Meanwhile, Silas was left in the dust.Emma could only speechlessly watch them leave. She was pretty sure a smart robot could do all those things. Why were they even competing? Emma couldn't help but notice that something wasn't quite right with them today. Although she couldn't understand their fervor, she was an open-minded female. She would accept their quirks. So, she nodded and said, "Go on, then." Then, she left her seat, walked to the couch, and unlocked her lightcore to text Corvin. 'Corvin, are you busy?' Corvin's reply came near instantaneously, 'Emma, I've just left the lab. Why are you messaging me at this hour? Did you miss me?' Emma only ever messaged him around dinnertime. That was because he was too busy with his work to reply at any other time. Emma responded, 'Yeah, I missed you. When are you coming home?' She couldn't help but wonder just who had placed so many orders that Corvin didn't even have time to spare to come home. Corvin, who was in his worn work clothes, plopped down on the couch in the lab's break room with a weary grunt. Nevertheless, all his exhaustion vanished when he received her text. Emma had just texted him that she missed him! This was amazing. He had missed her terribly as well. Corvin rushed to reply, 'Emma, I miss you too, but I can't return just yet.' How he desperately wanted to hug her right now. Emma's heart ached for him when she read his response. So, she answered, 'Then, I'll visit you. I'll come over the day after tomorrow.' Lucius and Marcus were going to fight Callum tomorrow. She was definitely not going to miss that. She leaned against the couch, the screen's glow outlining her profile. Drake crept up to her, watching her type. After a while, he finally bit the bullet and called out, 'Emma!'Emma instinctively looked up and saw the uneasy frown on his face. "What's wrong?" She placed her lightcore aside and looked at him gently. She had never seen Drake so out of his element until today. His fingers spasmed slightly as he parted his lips and inquired meekly, "Emma, can I… can I join all of you to meet Remy too?" Before she could say anything, he hurried to add, "Remy called me 'Daddy' for days, and I really do see him as my cub." He knew he was different from the others. Silas and the others were her mates. They could fight for her favor without worrying about the consequences and had a rightful spot by her side. Kieran also had the right to remain close as he was her follower. Callum was her potential match, so he, too, had a legitimate reason. He, on the other hand, had no such fortune.Although Remy had truly referred to him as 'Daddy' and Drake had genuinely been treating that little thing as his cub, he was still… ultimately no one. He had no right to even dream of a chance to be in the running like Lucien, Silas, and the others. Drake knew he was being presumptuous. So, he was already bracing himself for her abject refusal.
