The Cherished Pet of Nine Beast Husbands

Chapter 388 Dad Confusion Strikes Again

Silas thought, What on earth does Marcus do to anger Calum? Then again, considering Marcus's tendency to speak carelessly, it's really not surprising that he manages to upset him. Before he could ask what was going on, Calum interrupted. "Since our female only has five as mates, what's the story with Drake? Is he, like me, one of her destined matches? Or merely a follower?" "Drake used to be a match for Emy," he clarified. "Later on, Emy dissolved the match with him. He's currently by her side because his mental power collapsed. He requires Emy to comfort him and assist with his recovery." Calum frowned as he processed this information. "She's already dissolved the match with him, and she still cares for him?" He thought, My female is far too compassionate. That dragon seems quite out of sorts these days, yet my female shows him no disdain whatsoever. "And why did she dissolve the match with Drake in the first place?" he questioned. At that moment, he was eager to learn all there was about the people surrounding Emma. And Silas was clearly his prime source for information. Silas recognized that he considered him a walking database of intel. "I arrived at Emy's side rather late," he stated. "By the time I got here, she had already dissolved the match with Drake. Emy never shared the specifics with me, so I can't say for certain. If the Marshal wants to know, why not just ask her directly?" Calum was speechless upon hearing his statement. He didn't dare to do that. Unable to extract any useful details regarding Drake, he shifted the conversation. "Apart from Ms. Tibarn's five mates, besides me and Drake, are there any other males around our female?" Calum thought, Typically, females have at least nine mates. How does his female end up with just five? Even counting him makes six.As for Drake, since the match was already dissolved, he didn't regard him as one of her beasts anymore and didn't include him. "There's also Malrik and Kieran…" Silas replied. Silas quickly summarized the entire household situation without waiting for Calum to ask one question at a time. "At the moment, Malrik is Emy's current match. Once he recovers, Emy will likely become officially bonded with him. Kieran remains a follower. That's the general situation at home." Just as he concluded, the kitchen door creaked open. Malrik tiptoed out from the kitchen, clutching a bright red fruit and looking both sneaky and guilty. Silas and Calum both stood frozen for a moment at the sight of him sneaking out with the fruit held close to him. Calum had never seen him before, but judging by his cautious movements with that fruit, he concluded this must be the half-crazed young chief of the Enchanter Clan that Silas just mentioned. He also froze upon spotting Silas and Calum in the living room. It clearly hadn't crossed his mind that anyone would be present. "You guys…" Malrik was just about to speak when his attention suddenly fixed on Calum's short, silvery-white hair. His eyes brightened immediately, excitement and happiness flooding in. Silas quietly stepped two paces to the side, noticing his reaction. As Silas anticipated, he embraced the fruit tightly to his chest and dashed straight toward Calum, shouting as he ran: "Daddy, you're back at last! Malrik missed you so much!" Calum's eyes widened as he called 'daddy' and flung himself into Calum's arms. His entire body tensed up like stone. Caught in Malrik's hold, he didn't even dare to shift. He shot a panicked glance at Silas, who had, at some point, wisely moved a considerable distance away. "What is happening?" he asked.Silas pointed at the top of Malrik's head. "Marshal, Malrik isn't thinking clearly right now. Whenever he sees a male with white hair, he believes it's his father," he explained. Initially, when Malrik mistook Marcus for his dad, Silas considered it might be due to something memorable that Marcus had done. However, after they investigated, they found out that Malrik recognized Marcus as his father solely because his dad had the same white hair. Silas even tested it with others—any therians with white hair that appeared in front of him were immediately tagged as 'dad.' "Marshal, for Emy's sake, just endure it," Silas said, suppressing his laughter. "Malrik is currently matched with her. And what Emy desires most is for all the males at home to bond like true brothers—supporting one another and genuinely caring." Calum, who had initially planned to peel Malrik off him and toss him aside. He was speechless for that moment. Malrik tilted his head up to gaze at him, then raised the fruit in his hands, offering it to him with innocent, hopeful eyes. "Daddy, I picked this fruit for you. Please eat it." Silas lowered his gaze, wisely keeping quiet. Calum glanced at the fruit in Malrik's palm, feeling a vein throb at his temple. He detested eating fruit more than anything else. Yet, seeing Malrik's eager little face, he had a strong sense that if he refused to take it, the boy might actually burst into tears. After a brief internal battle, Calum finally reached out and accepted the fruit from Malrik's hands.
