Stranded with the Goddess
I pointed to the distant cliff by the sea, where seagulls and some unidentified seabirds were circling in the sky. "What do you need us to do?" Lin Xian'er asked. "I need a sturdy rope." Lin Xian'er and the others immediately sprang into action. The five of us busied ourselves for two hours, weaving a thirty-meter-long rope out of vines. As we approached the foot of the seaside cliff, we found that the slope of the mountain was very steep. The side of the cliff facing the sea was a sheer precipice. It seemed that the only option now was to detour through the dense forest to the back side of the cliff facing away from the sea. We plunged into the thick forest, hacking and chopping our way through the dense vegetation with sticks in hand, struggling to move forward. After about half an hour, we climbed a slope and our view suddenly opened up. We scaled the cliff, and the top was quite flat. Standing on the edge of the cliff, I leaned out and looked down. The precipice was covered with shrubs, and below, the waves crashed against the cliff, yet each nest was securely built on the rock face. The spectacular scene made me dizzy. I swayed and almost fell headlong, but fortunately, someone behind me pulled me back in time. It was Wang Yan. I smiled at her and thanked her. I found a short tree on the cliff top and tied one end of the rope around the trunk, securing it with a dead knot. I grabbed the rope and tugged it several times; the short tree didn't budge. I began to tie the other end of the rope around my waist when Xia Lan came up to me and volunteered, "Let me go down. I'm lighter than you, and the rope will definitely hold my weight."
I looked at Xia Lan with some surprise. Regardless of whether it was genuine or fake, I saw the concern in her eyes. I smiled, and my fondness for Xia Lan couldn't help but increase a lot. "I've done rock climbing before, I have experience," I said to her, "And it's too dangerous, this kind of job isn't suitable for girls." Xia Lan bit her lip and nodded, looking a bit lost, but she still earnestly admonished me, "Be careful." I nodded and checked the rope tied around the low tree again. Lin Xian'er and the others were afraid I would fall, so they wrapped the rope around their waists. In case of an accident, the four of them could completely pull me up. Wang Yan laid her coat on the edge of the cliff to prevent the rope from being suddenly worn through by stones. I was about to go down, and Wang Yan held the rope and reminded me, "Be careful." I glanced at Wang Yan's chest and whispered in her ear, "I can't bear to die." "Annoying!"
Wang Yan punched me lightly, and seeing her shy demeanor, my mood couldn't help but improve drastically. I took off my coat, fashioned it into a pouch, and hung it around my neck. I took a deep breath and began to climb down the cliff. The cliff's surface was rugged, and I used both my hands and feet to grip or step on the protruding or recessed rocks, cautiously approaching the first bird's nest. Many seabirds were startled by this intruder and flew up from their nests, circling around me and chirping noisily. I reached the first nest, where there were five eggs. A seagull perched on a nearby rock face, stretching its wings and screeching angrily at me. I took three eggs and left two, then moved along the cliff face towards the next nest, continuing to raid several more nests, totaling fourteen eggs. Looking at the assorted bird eggs in my coat pocket, I knew this wouldn't be enough to share, and just below my feet was another nest, surprisingly containing seven or eight eggs. I glanced up at the top of the cliff; I had already climbed down about ten meters. I continued towards the nest beneath my feet, and just as I was about to secure a foothold, something suddenly grabbed my neck, and a sharp object fiercely pecked at my head. Startled by this sudden attack, I quickly reached up to grab the thing on my head, causing my body to fall backward. By the time I realized I was falling, it was too late; in my panic, I stepped on and shattered the nest, and the eggs and nest fell into the sea with me. The loss of balance during the fall made my heart leap into my throat, but suddenly the rope around my waist tightened, and my fall stopped.
I was so frightened that my whole body was shaking. I panted heavily, suspended in mid-air, not daring to move an inch. Suddenly, I heard Wang Yan shouting something from above, and then I found myself starting to rise. I seized the opportunity to step on a protruding rock to adjust my posture, and then I pushed myself up... When I lay down on the cliff, my legs were still trembling, and I gasped for breath as I handed the clothes around my neck to Wang Yan. "Are you alright?" "Brother Lu Yuan." For a moment, several girls gathered around me, chattering away, and I waved my hand to indicate that I was fine. It took me half a day to catch my breath, and then I signaled them to pack up the ropes. Before leaving, I explored the terrain of the cliff again. The cliff facing the sea was oriented to the east, the gentle slope on the side of the dense forest faced west, and the steep slope we came from faced south. The upper half of the northern side of the mountain was a gentle slope, while the lower half was a steep cliff. In the middle of the mountainside, there was a flat area and a natural cave! More importantly, we had discovered a stream at the foot of the western mountain when we came. This fine place has been chosen by me as my future permanent residence.
