Chapter 0008: Wolves and Bats

“Lily, transform quickly!” This was the only idea that came to Hao Ren's mind at the moment. The familiar scent of blood and the chilling sensation had reappeared. He knew that as an ordinary human, it was absolutely impossible for him to contend with the “monster” in front of him, which looked like a human but was actually a different species. However, he didn't hold much hope after shouting that sentence: he was less than two meters away from the “girl” in front of him!

A gust of wind came from behind. Hao Ren knew that this was Lily, who had transformed, rushing over to rescue him. At the same time, Hao Ren immediately exerted force under his feet, preparing to jump to the side, so that the werewolf and this suspected vampire could confront each other head-on, and he would be safe!

But he overestimated his own reaction speed, or underestimated the combat power of the “alien.” Almost as soon as he had the idea of dodging, the girl with the black long straight hair in front of him had already reached out with movements far exceeding human reaction speed. She grabbed Hao Ren's arm with one hand and pulled him behind her with brute force that was almost enough to break his bones, and also let out a low shout with a very pleasant voice: “Be careful!”

The moment Hao Ren was flung away, he was stunned: Was that “Be careful” said by the dangerous creature in front of him?

At this time, Lily finally rushed to the door half a step behind. Hao Ren despondently saw that this werewolf girl, who had a hole in her head, had neither transformed nor taken any weapons. She was still dressed in that cool and lively home outfit, her hair hadn't turned white and her ears hadn't popped out. This girl bounced to the door and even cheerfully shouted: “Landlord, landlord, I'm here, are you delivering a package?”

An almost tragic roar of anger was about to burst from Hao Ren's heart: 'This idiotAh, ah, ah! Completely lacking in coordinationAh, ah, ah! The foolish behavior of the werewolf Lily made Hao Ren completely give up on escaping from the vampire. Even though Lily immediately reacted upon seeing the unfamiliar black long straight girl in front of her, transforming in a second and picking up two bricks from the doorway to prepare for battle, he still felt hopeless: He shouldn't have placed his hopes on this brain-dead werewolf since last night! Even stringing a couple of garlic cloves around his neck in the kitchen might be more reliable than Lily! Of course, he would later find out: for some vampires, garlic doesn't work either. Seeing her landlord being dragged away by the enemy, Lily's face flashed with a moment of frustration, but she still gripped the bricks in her hand tightly, emitting a 'woof woof' growl from her throat like a warning: 'Vampire... it's daytime now, you can't even beat me at night, you're even less of a match for me during the day! Return the landlord and I'll spare your life!' The black long straight girl, who had already confirmed her identity as a vampire, showed no fear at all. She stood between Hao Ren and Lily, her right hand extended in front of her in a defensive posture, her sharp nails slowly extending, a chill and the scent of blood began to swirl around her body, while her left hand discreetly moved behind her back, vigorously waving twice under Hao Ren's puzzled gaze, as if... urging Hao Ren to leave quickly? 'Werewolf, since when do beasts also pretend to mingle in human cities!'

The vampire girl's voice was cold and disdainful, and although there was a sense of weakness for some reason, her contempt for Lily was very apparent (even though she had just been hit with two bricks by the werewolf in front of her last night), 'Isn't catching rabbits in the wilderness your true job?' 'Hmph!' Lily snorted angrily, 'Stupid vampire, you definitely can't guess that I can't catch rabbits at all!' Hao Ren wanted to just bang his head and die right there, to save this brain-dead werewolf the trouble: such a fool, such a fool, such a fool! Even the usually calm vampire girl was caught off guard by Lily's unconventional way of speaking, she almost couldn't help but laugh, but then she forcefully waved her left hand behind her back, and Hao Ren heard a voice directly in his ear: 'Human, you run first, I'll hold off this werewolf... Although it's daytime, holding her off is still no problem!' Hao Ren: '...What?' At this moment, Lily was finally sensible for once, she noticed that the vampire had been distracted for a moment, so she immediately let out a low roar and charged with her brick: she didn't rashly throw the brick, probably worried about hitting the landlord who was close by. 'Die! Winged rat!' The vampire girl also fearlessly met her, and with a wave of her hand, a faint red bloodstain condensed in the air, forming a sharp nail that had already extended to more than ten centimeters, like a cluster of small daggers stabbing towards Lily's chest: 'Die! A beast that can only catch rabbits!' 'Stupid vampire! I've told you I can't catch rabbits at all!'

"Don't think you can distract me with the same trick again. For a vampire, the same move can't work twice!" Just as Hao Ren was taken aback, two extraordinary creatures beyond normal understanding were already entangled in a fierce battle. Lily, like a flash of silver light, was dashing left and right at the entrance of the rental apartment, desperately trying to reach Hao Ren's side. Meanwhile, the mysterious vampire girl, even during the day, was not much slower. She transformed into a black blur, with red bloodstains and claws attacking wildly, each time suppressing the werewolf who was about to break out. Lily's roars and the vampire girl's shouts seemed to come from a dozen different locations at the same time, completely exceeding the reaction speed of human eyes and ears!

But Hao Ren had already recovered from his initial shock. Although he was not sure about the truth, he knew he couldn't let them continue fighting. Not to mention anything else... he was worried that someone might see this bizarre scene! Even if it was a remote place, there were still people living here. It was already morning, and the few residents on this street could come out at any time. The commotion from Lily's fight with the vampire girl was not small, and if someone saw it, there would definitely be trouble—Lily could really be captured by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, dissected, and then sent to the cafeteria to 'test the flavor'! Hao Ren fully believed in the national conditions of the big foodie country!

Seeing a courtyard door at the end of the street being slowly pushed open, Hao Ren was frantic. He shouted with all his might: "Stop! Don't fight!"

His roar was so earth-shattering that Haoren could almost imagine being surrounded by the elderly from the neighboring street a few days later, being asked for half a day if he had encountered domestic violence. But the roar was indeed effective: the two storms formed by Lily and the vampire girl immediately stopped, and they both looked at Haoren in confusion, then quickly glared at their respective opponents.

Lily still had a look of high fighting spirit, as if the previous battle was just enough to warm up, while the vampire girl seemed to have expended a lot of energy. She was panting, her face flushed unnaturally red, indicating that engaging in a close combat with a werewolf under the sunlight was not so easy. However, they had one thing in common: even after such an intense battle, neither of them had a drop of sweat on them.

The cold air that the vampire girl carried with her was damn freezing.

"There might be a misunderstanding!" Seeing the two glaring at each other, Haoren knew they could start fighting again at any moment, so he quickly stepped between them (of course, he leaned a bit closer to Lily), "I need to confirm one thing first: this... vampire girl, you didn't actually intend to kill me, right?"

As soon as he said this, Haoren felt strange, but at this moment he couldn't care less about the choice of words. He felt that there must be a huge misunderstanding between the werewolf and the vampire—this pointed to a possibility that was frustrating.

The vampire girl immediately widened her eyes, keeping an eye on Lily while quickly glancing at Haoren: "I want to save you!"

Before Haoren could speak, Lily jumped out: "Who are you trying to fool!"

“You want to suck the landlord's blood! I've seen it on TV, you vampires are all no good!” Hao Ren suddenly realized something: Why does this werewolf get a lot of her knowledge from TV? Is this her first time seeing a vampire? “Wasn't it you who kidnapped this human first!” The vampire girl's slender eyes narrowed, her gaze filled with murderous intent, “Kidnapping a human, forcing him to help you conceal your identity, so you can live in human towns, none of you werewolves are very smart, using the same tricks from hundreds of years ago, and still haven't changed—no wonder you're almost extinct.” Then Lily and the vampire girl continued to glare at each other, but it seemed that both of their confidences were starting to wane. Hao Ren, caught in the middle, got the gist of it and finally slapped his forehead: “Ah, what is all this... Stop fighting, let's talk about it at home!”
