Mr. Mysterious's Spontaneous Bride

Chapter 88 He Should Meet Her

"What?!" Her voice on the other end of the phone rose again. "You're having the wedding so soon? Weren't you planning to have the wedding in England? Shawn, didn't we agree that your wedding would be held in England? I was supposed to sit at the head table with your grandma, and now, you..." "Her visa processing would take too long, and I wanted to marry her as soon as possible. She has too many people pursuing her, and I'm afraid of unexpected complications," Shawn replied, feeling the urgency in his aunt's voice. "Since you can't come back, how if I let Grandma sit at the head table, and we can have Aunt join remotely?" With a smirk, Shawn asked, "How do we handle that? Aunt has sworn that you won't come back in this lifetime, and I don't want you to miss my wedding, so this is the best solution..." "I'm booking a flight right now to come back!" On the other end of the phone, Professor Erica shouted anxiously. Shawn's lips curled up, and his bright white teeth glinted with the triumphant light of victory. The news of Erica's return to City A spread almost instantly. Professor Smith and a group of experts received the news at the same time. "This patient's fate is truly unpredictable. Who would have thought that the lifelong absentee Erica would consider coming back?" Professor Smith remarked with a wry smile as he prepared to have his assistant go to the airport to receive her. "Erica is a professional doctor. I believe that regardless of past grievances, she won't stand by and watch someone die." Professor Smith's thoughts were the same as Tanya's. As soon as she learned that Erica was coming back, she was already planning to go to the airport to receive her. She believed that if she could invite Erica to save this patient, she would not only be without blame but might even gain credit. Erica was Chairman Alter's younger sister, and Tanya was about to marry into the Alter family. With this close relationship, she was confident that Erica would give her face. With this in mind, she quickly returned to the Potts Medical Clinic and called her fiancé, Kevin. After telling Kevin about Erica's return, Tanya asked him to come and pick her up. Kevin was aware of the history of grievances within the Alter family, and he hesitated a bit when Tanya made this request. He was worried that Erica would be displeased. However, after some thought, he realized that since his aunt was willing to return, she must have let go of those old grudges. So, he agreed to Tanya's request. He also had a hidden agenda; he wanted to be the one to mend the relationship between his father and his aunt. If he could repair the rift between them, his father might look at him with greater favor. As Erica's plane was about to land at City A International Airport, several cars converged on the airport almost simultaneously. Ivy arrived with Professor Smith's car, and upon reaching the airport, she saw Kevin and Tanya waiting near the exit. They were accompanied by a few reporters. Ivy instinctively pulled Professor Smith to the side to avoid the reporters, worried that their presence might delay her and Professor Smith from saving the patient. "Ivy, you're here too," Kevin saw Ivy and his soul followed her. Ivy frowned as she looked at the group of reporters, fearing they might hinder her and Professor Smith. She said, "Professor Smith, could you please arrange for the reporters to leave? Saving a life is the top priority, and the patients at the clinic are waiting for emergency treatment." Her words had just fallen when Tanya hurried over. She grabbed Kevin's hand to indicate that he should remain silent. She then said to Ivy with a look of grievance, "Dr. Jones, we didn't invite these reporters. It's not in our control to make them leave, and trying to force them out might cause chaos. Why don't we leave things as they are?" Ivy glanced at the reporters behind her and sneered. "I have an idea." Kevin, who had been gazing at her with infatuation, couldn't help but become infatuated all over again. "Ivy, what's your idea? I'll cooperate." "If they want to dig into the history of the Alter family's grievances, you and Dr. Potts can pretend to have something to discuss with them, take them to the side for an interview," Ivy suggested. "When Erica comes out, Professor Smith and I can quietly take her away. What do you think?" "No way!" Tanya immediately opposed the idea. Tanya knew that Ivy was deliberately trying to keep them away, in order to steal her credit. Seeing that Tanya was adamant, Ivy sighed with resignation and turned her gaze to Professor Smith. The situation reached a standoff. From a distance, Shawn's personal assistant observed everything and quickly made his way to the VIP lounge at the airport to report the situation to Shawn. "Thank goodness I had my assistant spread false information before boarding," Shawn remarked, while beside him, Erica chuckled. "Otherwise, I'd be the one surrounded by reporters now."Erica, dressed in a simple beige suit, with a sleek pair of gold-rimmed glasses, was holding a cup of cold Americano. She stared at the dark iced coffee, and her mind drifted back to the dark memories of more than a decade ago. When she looked up again and met Shawn's eyes, her gaze held a trace of pity. However, Shawn's expression remained neutral, devoid of the overwhelming hatred he used to harbor during his time in England. It seemed that during the years he spent alone in City A, someone had healed him. "This person, is she Ivy?" Erica asked, looking at the ring on his ring finger. "Shawn, since your mother left, you haven't trusted anyone except me and your grandmother. I thought you'd live a solitary life forever, but I never expected..." Erica paused at this point. Shawn turned to look at her and said after a moment, "Grandma pushed me into getting married..." He slowly recounted everything that had happened with Ivy. While he might have married her in the past with some reluctance, things were different now. Perhaps, he should meet her, after all. "I'll go bring her here." "No need," Erica interrupted him and asked, "How will you cover up your lie if you call her to my presence?" Being a very astute person, Erica immediately grasped Shawn's scheme upon hearing his words. "Your wedding is fake too, isn't it?" She asked Shawn, who nodded in agreement. Erica then reached out and lightly tapped his head with her computer. "You rascal, now you're cautious and careful when something good is happening. You dare to lie to your aunt!" Shawn smiled lightly, tacitly acknowledging it. "Well, it doesn't matter. Since you've tricked me into coming back, and I've broken my vow never to return, I might as well attend your wedding sooner or later!" With a glance at the reporters and the Alter family members gathered at the reception area, Erica's eyes sparkled with mockery. "Tonight, I'll host a welcoming banquet at the Garden Hotel to announce my return to City A. It'll also give me a chance to take a good look at your wife.""Aunt..." "You just take care of your health," Erica interrupted him. "Don't worry about anything else." With that, she got up and left the room. ***
